About this restaurant

  • Romantic
  • Good for special occasions
  • Innovative
A beautiful pub & restaurant set in the heart of the village of Titchmarsh. The Wheatsheaf offers great quality food, wine & beers in two restaurants, bar and large garden area. Owner Amy Harding along with all the team look forward to giving you a warm welcome. Our style is contemporary without losing any of the traditional pub character. We have a very comfortable bar area for pre-dinner drinks and nibbles with our restaurant serving freshly prepared food by Steve and his team.

i think they were a bit overstretched we waited quite awhile for the starters but once the food arrived it was very nice and very good value, the staff were also very pleasant and efficient, will be returning soon.

Good welcome . Lovely ambience . Very pleasant service if a little inexperienced and unknowledgeable about the menu . Good comfort food ,very tasty however my lamb was incredibly salty . Mussels in ale and Creme frail he as a starter were lovely . Good value.

The whole night was ruined by being given something with dairy and egg in it when we specifically phoned ahead and mentioned in the booking that our meal had to be vegan then being lied to. The vegan options we were given for starter and main were ok. Nothing special or that you would pick at all, but they did us something so that was good, but then when it came to desert we were told to have the sorbet. However when it came out I questioned it. The waiter told me the brand and I looked it up.. it is not vegan! The worst part was the head waitress lied right to me about it. She funnily enough couldn't find the packets it had come out of, but told us the brand, so we purchased some after and it was not the same. I am thoroughly disgusted by this behaviour and would never go back. My friends son has a sever dairy allergy and if it had been him he would have ended up in hospital. I was devastated to have consumed a little, as I choose not to eat animal products.

Went for Valentines day as The Wheatsheaf had advertised a set menu which appealed. I must say The Wheatsheaf is an old favourite of mine so it was nice to return. Food was excellent again and reminded me how good this place is. The set menu was well thought out and offered great choices. The steak we had to share was very tender and full of flavor and the Starter and deserts were lovely. The staff were very happy to help with a request for additional sides and we ended up with way more food than we could handle = Quality and Quantity! If I was being picky I thought the service was a little slow to respond on a couple of requests I made (drinks and bill) and there was a difference in level of service between the staff however it wasn't anything to put me off thoroughly enjoying the food, the wine and the evening and I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone

An enjoyable lunchtime meal. However very quiet which made the ambience a lower value. Probably due to January "blues" after Christmas.

The three of us all had the roast beef which was delicious, the sweet menu catered for our individual tastes and was lovely. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful. One of our party had trouble walking and we were given a table where there was plenty of room for his legs and where we would not be required to move to let other diners pass. This was very helpful and made lunchtime very relaxed .

I took a chance and booked a table here for my fathers 86th birthday. The staff were great as was the ambience and food. It's situated in a pretty little village and we hope it stays open as a pub/restaurant once it's sold.

We visited on Saturday 22nd of September, they are currently short staffed and our food took a long time to get to us. However the service from the staff was faultless they made sure we were compensated for our wait before we'd even had a chance to query why our food hadn't arrived. I'm not a complainer so I was grateful they came to us first to apologise. I loved that even under the pressure of under staffing the chef and his team delivered beautiful quality food I had the belly pork which was melt in the mouth my partner had the lamb which was a little fatty but still very nice. I had the sticky toffee pudding replacing the salted caramel ice cream for vanilla which was divine, my partner had the brownie which was the best brownie i'd ever tasted I always find them quite dry but this was a nice thick brownie and not dry. Over all it was a shame about the delay but the customer service really had a chance to shine because of it we will definitely be back.
