The Wharf-Madison Beach Hotel
Confusion at host stand, requested window table( which were available) but led to interior inferior table, complained, pointed out open window seat and accommodated with a shrug and a “no problem”. Assigned nice enough server but turned out his twining was limited.at his advice I ordered short rib dinner which was so awful I thought it must be a “Candid Camera” skit. My wife on the other hand raved over the salmon dish. The other dinners were roast cod and chicken Marsala which were not only bland but small portions(+/- 4oz). Desserts ok, coffee came out cold and had to be replaced. Waiter comped ribs and provided free dessert.
It’s a shame when service, product and management combine to sabotage such an attractive location.
Excellent food and service. It was a lovely dining experience.
Family get together. 10 of us - everyone said there was NO room for improvement. Everything was exceptional!! Brunch was delicious. So happy we chose Madison Beach Club, we had a wonderful time! Thanks to Stew, our server and the many wonderful support staffers who made our reunion that much more enjoyable.
Enjoyed view from outside porch overlooking ocean.
Meal and drinks were good. Enjoyed mini desert choc mousse served in shot glass
Always enjoy our meal at the Wharf.
Beautiful weather on the water makes this venue a must do! Sit outside if you can and don't leave without visiting the gift shop. Fun day was had by all.
Great waiter, very professional and directed us accordingly to meals that we were looking for. Beautiful view and weather was amazing as well
It took 30 minutes to receive our drinks, after ordering them immediately upon arrival. When, after 25 minutes we inquired about them, our server snarled that he was pouring them now. The drinks were a vodka on the rocks and a beer.
I'd say that our experience was just okay. Food was edible. I did expect that they would have local catch items featured on the menu and when they did not I found that very disappointing. I had shrimp stuffed with crabmeat which was passable. The crabmeat stuffing was kind of a glob with very little shredded crabmeat and an abundance of stuffing. Was way too much of it on the plate as they put the stuffing on the shrimp and then heaped a pile of it on the plate separately which didn't make sense. My husband had scallops which had to be sent back as they were under-cooked. Came back okay. Server was very nice but kept apologizing for being so busy. It's a holiday weekend not sure why they were so surprised.
We were very disappointed with the service over all. We had reservations for 6:45 and were told we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table outside. It was an hour before we were seated and there were SEVERAL tables empty outside when we were seated. The waitress was decent but we were NOT offered bread (not that we wanted it but it wasn't offered). The food was okay but not up to its usual standard.
Good food in a wonderful setting. We ate on the porch, enjoyed all we ordered, and commented that the service was attentive.
Fabulous all around! Views are spectacular great welcome and service! Captain quarters is the best rooms😊
Great dinner. HUGE mussels with very large portion for an appetizer. Dessert was delish. Was a little quiet probably due to still being the off season. Would be perfect if just a little livelier. Looking forward to going back!
Great brunch with a great view. My kids loved the dessert table!!
We had a lovely romantic evening dining at the Wharf Restaurant. We are looking forward to our next dining experience.
I am sure this is a lovely place in better weather. The food was not great. I ordered sword fish. I had not had it in years and was really looking forward to eating this. It was very dry. I should have asked for some lemon. The lentils with other things that came with it had little flavor. My daughter's dish seemed tasty, but it was a rib dish that was too fatty choice for me. Maybe I just chose the wrong dish.
The service was good and friendly .
Stew, our server was wonderful. Enjoyed a very nice lunch.
We ended up changing our reservations to dinner time. Everything was amazing! We had two different seafood dishes and I had NY strip. They were all very delicious. Kudos to the chef! Our waitress was very pleasant and sweet, the view spectacular. We went for my birthday and I was extremely happy with my choice.
There are not many place in CT where you can have a nice meal right on the beach. The Wharf offers this and a great meal and a comfortable place to eat it. I like that I can get a really high end expensive meal, or something a little less costly and filling depending on my mood while still being able to enjoy the shoreline.
Always fun to go there.
Food and drinks are great.
Love the tuna tar tar.
Food excellent, view excellent, service exellent. An intoxicated female patron was ruining everyone’s dining experience.Thank god the nanager had her removed...
Have enjoyed visiting and dining at The Wharf for some years. The Hotel is a wonderful reminder of the early years of this "grand lady". The restaurant and it's staff are first rate. Seasonal items compliment a menu full of standard favorites, all prepared perfectly, making the dining experience all the better!
We had Roasted Cod and Shrimp and Scallop casino for dinner. The Cod was good and done as expected, but the Casino entrée was pretty flat and tasteless. Our staff/bus service was good but our wait person never checked back to see if we liked the meals. The restaurant atmosphere is nice.
It was a lovely meal with very professional waitstaff. The salmon and chicken dishes were wonderful. We watched a beautiful sunset from our table on the porch.
Only issue was the heaters on the porch were so hot that the granite table top was really hot to touch. Suggest looking at a way to regulate the heaters.
I have loved this place for many years and am a frequent diner for both lunch and dinner. I have to finally admit though that the quality of the food has really slipped over the past year or so. I planned a birthday dinner for a family member...a total of 7 people...and everyone found their dinners to be underwhelming. The New York Strip was really fatty , the Au Poivre sauce on the Filets was bland and the Salmon was dry and over cooked. I had the Scallops over risotto which I thought was delicious although a bit spicier then expected. We really had a terrific time, Kathy took great care of us and a good time was had by all. It was really the next morning that people started admitting that they were disappointed with the dinners. This isn’t the first time this as happened but now I have to admit that the food and menu are just not as good as in the past.
This is one of my favorite places to go...but maybe I’ll just need to stick to lunch.
The low grade in service was not because the waitress was deficient, but the wait between the salad and main course was unusually long. Also a woman who must have been an employee walked to and fro in front of our table enough times to be very noticeable. She didn't seem to be waiting on anyone but had an ID tag like she worked for the hotel.
Beautiful spot on the water. very attractive dining room. Very good food. Service was a little unprofessional. I find the waiter who seres the food and has to announce the dish and asked who ordered it annoying and unprofessional
Wonderful evening with great food and service at one of the nicest restaurants on the CT Shoreline.
Excellent food and service
Sunday brunch...service was awful...not attentive, very transactional, not much smiling and engaging. Was never invited to go up to the bruch, had to ask...
I'll go back for the view!
Madison is halfway between family in Massachusetts and Connecticut so the wharf has become our favorite midpoint meeting spot. The setting is spectacular, the service is friendly and efficient, and the menu is interesting. The food is somewhat traditional, but with a nice twist, and never fussy! Dessert is also wonderful.
I have been fortunate enough to stay in the hotel and it is top notch & super comfortable. The rooms are well appointed and elegantly simple. Like the restaurant, classic and unpretentious.
The food and service were good...I did not care for the live music/singing in the bar portion of the main dining room while we were still eating dinner...or seeing males wearing "little hats" in the band area...changes the room from trying to be somewhat elegant to a "hippy" folk-singing haunt.
Great Valentine’s dinner!
I hadn't been there in years and certainly not since they renewed it. I took my wife for Valentines Day. Overall , I was pleasantly surprised how good it was. The service was great and the food was very good. I can't wait to go back during the day to watch the sunset. Very nice.
Great service and food
The food was excellent and the entertainment, Singer/songwriter series, which featured Kailin Garrity was excellent as well. Very enjoyable evening out, we drove an hour each way to the dinner & entertainment and would do it again without hesitation. I would recommend to family and friends. Thanks.
Had drinks at the bar first then Price Fix menu. Food was very good. Service exceptional.
Kathy, our waitress, was great! The food and wine was fantastic.
Wonderful dinner celebrating husband’s birthday. Restaurant was quiet in the off season for this beach resort, but everything was top notch. The scallops and risotto were some of the best I have ever had. Wish more than one table had access to the fireplace though as that adds to the winter ambience. Overall, the food exceeded my expectations.
Omelette station Chef very nice to talk with. My "made to order" omelette was amazing!! He went out of his way to get me freshly grated Swiss Cheese for my vegetarian omelette! Varieties of food outstanding! Vegetarian choices also outstanding! Service impeccable. Death by Chocolate Cake and Pistachio Cannoli were big hits. Raw seafood bar choices excellent. Salads and dressings excellent. Hummus excellent, but no Pita bread, crackers or bagel chips available close by to accompany the hummus.
This was my first dining experience at the Wharf-Madison Beach Hotel. I made my reservation for 2 through the"Open Table" app and asked for a window "ocean side" table, which I got! The views were incredible, with the cold front coming through...we experienced viewing every kind of dramatic weather on the Sound, except for snow!
Room for improvement:
The croissants were stale. More choices for warm savoury breads, along with freshly whipped butter would have been lovely. The pastry cream for the berry tarts was too "corn-starchy" lumpy thick, I only ate the fresh berries from the top. Pepper mills, and Sea Salt mills (I believe in freshly ground EVERYTHING) would be an added treat for every table. Complimentary mimosas, or a complimentary glass of champagne should be included per person for the price. For the raw bar, as a suggestion, a Chef should be shucking the oysters and clams to order. Small containers for the mignonette and cocktail sauces should be available.
For those who want a quiet Sunday Brunch, I recommend making a reservation for 1PM or later. My reservation was for noon, and it was a bit noisy in the beginning with a full house. Not easy for conversation. But, by 1:00, most of the crowds left and it was noticeably quieter.
Overall, yesterday's brunch was a memorable experience and I will be sure to return soon. Thank you and your staff for working hard to make our Sunday Brunch at the Wharf a special one, indeed.
