We really enjoyed this pre-symphony dinner. Especially the vegan choice of ravioli! Elegant ambience, top notch food and service.
Quality dining—scallopsxnd shrimp cooked perfectly, and one seldom sees food that has been sous vide. Excellent service—attentive without hovering.
Short ribs were tough & with inedible grizzled. Shrimp risotto was overcooked & oily. Salad used old wilting lettuce. Maitre'd was kind & helpful. Staff tried hard to please. Atmosphere reveals old Hotel elegance BUT there has been no attempt to keep the room in good condition. An old & worn feeling.
Amazing food and service. Broadway menu is a real value for what you get.
We went here for dinner before seeing Hamilton at the SD Civic Theater. Got there at 6 PM and had a nice relaxing dinner. My Steak Frites was perfectly cooked, but I prefer my vegetables a little more done, as the Brussels sprouts were like slightly cooked rocks. My wife has scallops and shrimp risotto which was scrumptious but lite on shrimp (2) and scallops (1). The wine was very good as was my Stone IPA! No desert, as we were trying to watch our sugar intake!
The service was excellent and the dining room quiet and conducive to conversation!
We went for restaurant week lunch. The soup was just warm - not hot. The scallop & shrimp risotto was much too spicy. I believe my friend's short rib pasta was fine. I should have sent mine back.
Theater dinner - great experience !!
The Westgate room is screaming for a major remodel. It's like stepping back in time in a bad way. Sterile, dull, boring. Four of us dined, two had good food, two had below average food. I just could not recommend this place with so many great, fun venues available downtown.
Perfect place for dinner before theatre! Park there and walk over in 2 minutes! They offered a nice 3 course pre theatre menu at a great price and service was quick!
Westgate is quite lovely and service was outstanding.
Immediately after exiting from the first performance of " Hamilton" at the civic theater last Saturday we ( 2 couples) dined at the Westgate Hotel - Westgate room . Due to the fact that both pre and post theater guests would be present , there was a very reasonable fixed menu with a entree choice between Ravioli, Steak and salmon.. My starter was a nice and unusual split pea soup ( red in color) and I finished off with a beautiful Creme Brulee for dessert. Wine was included. The elegance of the hotel and good friends made the evening very special. And of course "Hamilton" !
Absolutely lovely evening. Just a little cold temperature wise. They did change that when I told them I was cold.
Everything about our evening was great except they forgot to make my wife's entrée, and then they tried to charge me for it. My food was delicious and we enjoyed ourselves very much except for the one mistake. We are planning on going back again!
Only selection of Chardonnay by the glass was an awful $10 JLorre. This was a high end restaurant !
When I ordered it and took a sip I called over the waiter, who later tells me he is the manager. I asked him to take away the
wine and bring me a kir royale. He asked me what that was!!!! Really, the manager??? I told him to ask the bartender.
My entree was a steak which was so tough my knife could not cut into it. No one came over to see how we were enjoying our meal! I repeat, this was a high end restaurant!
My girlfriend asked for a cup of coffee at the end of the meal. When she asked for a little more, the "manager" said there were no second cups because she had a special coffee. No one told her about any special coffee when she ordered! So, no second cup.
When the bill of $150.00 arrived I noticed that I was charged for the $10 wine I sent back. I questioned this because I thought
it was so low class to bill me for it. The "manager" said it was not their fault I didn't like it!
That was really enough of the bad experience. I asked to see the manager and then he informed me that he was the manager.
Can't the Westgate Room do better than this?
Needless to say, I won't be back. I will also discourage my friends and acquaintances from dining at this restaurant.
My family and I came for Christmas dinner and were nicely accommodated in the back corner of the Westgate Room because we had a baby. The service was fine although we had to ask for refills of few things. But the 4 course meal was not good. There was a lobster with ravioli which was cold and a steak with peppercorn sauce that was so salty it was inedible. I liked the appetizer of a scallop and purée and the dessert but overall was sadly disappointed in the dinner. My husband was extremely disappointed. But the ambience of the hotel was so festive that it was nice just to be there for the evening.
