The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

I had braised ribs - very tender and tasty comfort food! I would get it again. Huge space. Cozy wood. A blast from the past. Lighting was a bit dim and somewhat odd. First time but I will remember this place and come again. Open til 7pm so about the right time before a show. 7th floor inside Macy’s. Take the express elevator…

The food and ambience was great, the server was too. The hostess discretely took pictures of my grandmother and I because she does not like having pictures taken. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated that.

Maitre D sat us at a table by the window. He said the Waiter we were getting was very good. He was correct! The food came out hot and was very good. I had the famous chicken pot pie and my Mom had the meatloaf. It was my first time dining at the Walnut Room. I will definitely go back and have already recommended it to my Cousin.

We went after a matinee theater performance and our dinner at the Walnut Room was a perfect end to our outing in the city. We went after the holiday season so the restaurant wasn't very busy and we were seated right next to the big windows where we could see the city light up as the sun went down. This was out first time at the Walnut Room and we had the chicken pot pie which was super tasty and the quantity was just right.

Ravioli was too salty, salmon pretty plain, and Bourbon drink too strong without being able to taste the drink’s syrup

I went on the last day the Walnut Room had their famous Christmas tree up. It was my first time going. I got their chicken pot pie (which came with salad) and a slice of their Frango mint ice cream pie. Everything was delicious! I mean there is a reason the Walnut Room’s pot pie has used the same chicken pot pie recipe since 1890! Prices were reasonable ($16 for the pot pie and $10 for the pie). We were seated by a window, which had great views of the city. And, of course, there was the ambience of the Christmas tree and the Christmas fairies. Everyone had a great time!
