The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    The Walnut Room is one of Chicago's unrecognized gems. Some summer associates in my office asked me to take them to an "iconic" Chicago restaurant for lunch. I chose The Walnut Room and it did not disappoint. Food and service was great. Prices very reasonable.

    Christmas in July is new tradition for us! Walnut Room at Christmas has been important time for us for over 50 years. The decorations and holiday menu were perfect. Jesus was attentive and efficient. Arctic Alex was a hit with our granddaughter. I told her that of all the princesses we have encountered over the years, she was the best!

    We had a great experience! The food was delicious. My friend had their classic Chicken Pot Pie and I had Chicken salad with cranberries on a croissant. Both were fresh and delicious. The service was excellent, which it always seems to be. Friendly wait staff and they always help each other out. I would highly recommend the Walnut Room- it’s iconic and still living up to its reputation.

    Our waiter, Jesus, was very attentive and professional. The menu offered a nice selection and we were all pleased with our choices. I went there on a "Field" trip with my book club. We had just finished Renee Rosen's What the Lady Wants and decided to visit Macy's while discussing the book about the life of Marshall Field. We all had been to Marshall Field's as kids and young mothers so the iconic Walnut Room led us on a nostalgic trip down memory lane as well as a great venue for our book discussion. We were pleased to see Mrs. Herring's pot pie, which was mentioned in the book, on the menu! Highly recommended!

    I had heard so much about how iconic it is to dine at The Walnut Room, and taking my family there for lunch after a day exploring downtown Chicago truly lived up to the hype. The historic setting, combined with great service and a relaxing atmosphere, made it the perfect way to cap off our visit. The food was delicious, and the overall experience felt special without being pretentious. I would absolutely recommend The Walnut Room to anyone visiting the city, whether you're looking for a unique meal or just want to soak in a bit of Chicago history.

    Walnut Room is an iconic restaurant located in the former Marshall Fields in the center of downtown Chicago on State Street. Whether you go at Christmas, which is what they are widely known for or in June, the service, atmosphere and quality of food are the same, excellent. The entertainment was our primary reason for going and Jennifer Brehm’s Dance Fiesta did not disappoint. Her high energy evening of salsa, flamenco and Spanish folk dance included opera, ballet and samba music pieces. Totally enjoyable and we look forward to returning to see her perform again.

    I discovered the Walnut Room after engaging is peaceful protest at Daley Plaza. The menu has excellent offerings but my fave go to is their smash burger. It is absolutely delicious with perfect shoestring French fries. The service is always spot on and the ambiance is relaxing and restful.
