The Veranda at the Kahala Resort Ratings and Reviews
It was my Mom & Auntie’s first tea time experience. From our tea selections, scones, and sweet + savory sandwiches, we truly enjoyed the food, tea, and ambiance. We sat outdoors and enjoyed the outdoor beach scenery. We also had a nice view of the dolphins and some hotel guests swimming wIth them.
Overall we had 3 meals at the resort, Xmas day lunch (outside) and two separate dinners(veranda). Xmas day (buffet) and one dinner (al a carte) stunning. Last dinner not quite as good. The food had been so good at the first evening dinner one of us repeated it which was a mistake, however the staff recovered well and offered alternative food at no charge. Well done. Would recommend to anyone.
Overall everything is fine, but there were too many fruit flies!! The server thought it was because of the Christmas tree, but there were literally like 20-30 fruit flies just at our table, flying all over our food and drinks, landing in the water and wine and dying in our glasses, which really took away from the whole experience.
Intimate and comfortable. Mostly small plates and limited entrees. Everything tasty. Full bar and good selection of wines available. Think of it as luxurious sports bar food. Fabulous entertainment with pianist Ginny Tiu performing from 7:30 to 10:00 on Sunday and Monday. Go just for the entertainment; the food and drink will be an afterthought.
A travel coordinator that I worked with over the years was visitng Oahu. She and I had never met before but shared many emails and phone calls. There is no other place to enjoy tea but at The Veranda in The Kahala Hotel & Resort! I invited Sheryl and her husband for afternoon tea. We each ordered our own preferred teas. And when the waithelp presented the tower of petit fours and sandwiches, it was quite impressionable! We had a great time sharing stories and laughing like old friends. I love bringing friends here! The Veranda makes the get togethers for me so easy and enjoyable than meeting in Waikiki. Parking is always easy and the drive towards the front of the hotel is so pleasing and welcoming. The Veranda will always be my favorite place!
We enjoyed the special October, Friday 3- course tasting meal paired with wines from France.
Each course was exceptional, my only dis-appointment was that each wine pour was a bit skimpy. If one was dining in Napa or Sonoma Valley the pour would have been much more generous.
For the afternoon tea- note the price differences- $20 for 4 tea sandwiches or 4 small desserts and scones, or for an extra $30 you can get both the 4 tea sandwiches and 4 small desserts.... the food is good, but 4 tea sandwiches do not equal a $30 upcharge in my book.
Took my visiting UK friends to afternoon tea in The Veranda. The is a GREAT place to sit, dine and catch up. The tea selections were ample for all three of us. I enjoyed my Roiboos tea and my friends had the English Breakfast tea and the Green tea. The Veranda Staff was made aware that one of the orders had to be for a vegetarian. And the Staff was accommodating. My friends were impressed.
We have been trying over a number of years on our trips to the islands to experience afternoon tea at a number of hotels and other locations. We went to the Veranda at the Kahala Resort for that reason and to celebrate our 48th Wedding Anniversary. We had a very nice tea on the balcony overlooking the Dolphin pool and other outdoor spots of the resort. The food was excellent. We had the Royal tea with a glass champagne to toast each other. Our only minor advice would be to have the tea water hotter as we learned to enjoy it that way when we lived in England. The resort is very beautiful - it was a nice anniversary treat!
The talented pianist, David Swanson, always makes out evening there a joy. We love being able to dance on the small but ample dance floor.
The pupus are yummy, albeit a tad expensive. The tomato soup with pesto tasted freshly made from scratch. The fried chicken pieces are a bit salty, but fun to eat in handy portion sizes. The drinks are refreshing. The free valet service is a plus. It's fun to go outside and see the dolphins swimming about in their dolphin pool. An enjoyable venue for a night out whether local or a tourist.
I was a little disappointed that they did not do anything special for my daughter's birthday. We were greeted by Brittnee who did acknowledge that we were there for Lauren's birthday. When we went to Chibo's for dinner, they made Lauren feel very special. She did not feel the same at Kahala.
The Veranda never disappoints. My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by trying something different for him. We tried the afternoon tea service. We both choose our teas. I did English breakfast and he had their signature tea. We had 4each of the sweet and savory delights which was very good. We also ordered two entrees from the menu which was also delicious, we will definitely be back.
The atmosphere of conviviality is uplifting. The music by Dave Swanson, both his piano playing and singing, make you just want to get up on your feet and dance on the small but ample dance floor. And you can't beat the Kahala Hotel for luxurious beach resort comfort in the open air environment. The food, unfortunately, is a limited bar menu, appropriately high priced and lacking in many respects. So, I can't wait to return... not for the food but for the fun.
