We have eaten dinner there twice before and had wonderful experiences. This time was different-unfortunately. We went to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary.
Waitress was very busy, to the point where a drink order retrieval had to be asked for after a noticeable delay.
My entree of Roast Leg of Veal was not as expected, with small medallions of meat. My wife’s appetizer of Lamb and Rye meatballs was over salted. Her entree of Brazilian Moqueca stew sauce had an unlikeable flavor. Not sure if it was due to the whey or mizuna.
However, the green house salad was exceptionally delicious.
Since it takes us an hours drive to get there, I doubt we will ever be going back.
We live in San Francisco and were specifically interested in what local seasonal ingredients were being featured. Having grown up and left the area over 40 years ago, we we pleasantly surprised. This place is a diamond in the rough. The cheeses were excellent from local artisans. The Hermann Reisling had a dry and smooth bright finish. I wish I could have tried more. The greens and vegetable sides were well spiced and so dress. The servers were knowledgeable, attentive and pleasant. Great job everyone. Much success to you and your community of artisans. This would be the reason we would return!
Always creative and delicious! They never disappoint.
ITS ALWAYS TOP NOTCH. OUR WAITER BLARE WAS AMAZING
Perfect in just about every way. Welcome, service, timing were impeccable. Food itself was simply outstanding. The menu draws from local farmers and is seasonal. Only drawback was it’s a little noisy, but happy diners all having great meals and a great time! We were a bit concerned about the New York wine list but no need to worry. The wines went beautifully with the courses. Can’t wait to go back!
Always a great experience at Tailor n Cook. Top notch in service, food, drinks! We always try a couple different appetizers n entrees and of course the incredible dessert choices.
The neighborhood aside, this nice good setting to spend an evening out with close friends. Menu is creative and a genuine attempt was made to incorporate ingredients & recipes from multicultural sources. For that I give credit, but the outcome, unfortunately, was only mediocre. The pork Katsu, for instance, was below what most oriental restaurants, and the clam was on par with only those seafood restaurants on the lower end. What the tastes of dishes lacked, nonetheless, was far more than being made up by the exemplary services of the waiting staff. They are well trained, courteous, considerate. Our waiter taking the order was circumspect and inquisitive without being impolite, and attentive without being intrusive. That's why I would give the overall experience a very good one. If I am passing by the area, I will not mind returning to eat again - as long as I find safe parking within the restaurants immediate neighborhood.
An old friend was visiting so a great occasion to show her this gem in Utica. I don't normally splurge on meals, but the Tailor and the Cook is so worth it. Our food was excellent, beautifully plated, and with fresh local ingredients so felt really healthy. We had a table for two in the corner, which was perfect for long, quiet conversation. The atmosphere was also really fun, and our waiter was well-informed and had a great sense of humor. Just an all-around great, leisurely, and creative meal!
First time there, disappointed in not recognizing our Anniversary.
Great restaurant. We're originally from the area and great food in Utica was always an Italian option. The Tailor and Cook is as good as any of the trendy restaurants in Boston, Atlanta, Orlando, NYC, Vegas or Portland.
My dining experience at Tailor & the Cook was truly amazing .The food and service Saturday night was excellent, as always . The scallops are the best you'll find anywhere . For the entree , I ordered the trout . It was s new menu item and I would definitely order it again . I have tried the chicken , lamb , the risotto . Anything ordered from the menu does not disappoint . Thank you once again , Tailor & the Cook
Food was ultra-fresh and unique! Service was exemplary!
The food was fabulous and the service was so attentive. Very enjoyable.
I had heard great things about this place from family members and friends, which led us to try this place. But I didn't expect it to be as GREAT as it really is.
Wow, from the service to the ambiance to the insanely good food, this is a place with no flaws. And it wasn't like one person or one meal... every person, from the maitre'd to the bartender to the water person to the server, was spectacular at his/her job. The food, every appetizer, every salad, every entree, every dessert was just incredibly delicious.
I could go on and on about this place... but sufficed to say, it's fantastic. If you find yourself in downtown Utica, don't miss it.
We love this place! Food and wine are always excellent
I love this place. The food and service are amazing.
This is my favorite restaurant, even though it's hours from my home. I go there whenever I get a chance. It never disappoints. Awesome menu & all locally sourced & seasonal.
Great food, great menu. Too noisy for older persons trying to converse.
Awesome meal and experience as always! Whenever we have a special occasion we go here and it never disappoints!
We discovered this restaurant via an online search of restaurants on our route on I 90 from Maine to Buffalo. Our timing worked out for a stop in Utica so we made a reservation. So glad we did! We had one of the best meals either of us has ever had. Very interesting, extremely tasty, intriguing, gourmet very interesting, extremely tasty, intriguing, gourmet dishes the light at our pallets. Everything about this place was on a par with the best restaurants in New York City. And at a lower price tag. We encourage everyone who has the opportunity to eat here as often as you can.
High expectations for this restaurant after reading reviews and our experience exceeded them. Do make reservations and prepare to be wowed! Waitperson easily guided to gluten-free choices and even double checked with the kitchen to verify. Nothing cliche about this farm-to-table gem.
As always, a delightful culinary experience. Everything we both had for dinner was excellent. Our server, Trevor, was friendly and attentive. Such a treat having Tailor & the Cook right here in Utica!
Heard about this restaurant from local friends. Set a date and so pleased that I did. Good was truly wonderful Food not good lol
This was our first time here. We will definitely return. Everything was exceptional. Highly recommended. It was a nice way to celebrate a birthday but you don’t need a reason to eat here. You will enjoy your evening.
We were in town to celebrate an anniversary. Staff was attentive. Service timing was very good. WE LOVED EVERYTHING from the amuse bouche to desert as well as the complementary sparkling wine and brownie after dinner. We’ll return next time we are in town.
Our first time there.
Had a wonderful meal. Great service.
Loved the ambiance!
Will recommend to friends and family.
Love the place. Only mini-negative was my choice of fare. I got the veal leg. Knowing that it wasn’t braised, I took a gamble on the meat being tough, and it was. Tasty, but the need for healthy back teeth, and patience with swallowing, was at a premium. My wife got the filet, and it was awesome. The homemade coconut, lemon, almond sorbet, was intense in a refined kind of way. Despite the tough veal, I’d go again, and will.
Tailor & the Cook is such a gem! I now and then drive from Hartford, Ct to Syracuse NY for work and whenever i have a chance, I stop at Tailor and the Cook for dinner. This time I had the roasted Veal leg and it was phenomenal. Very flavorful and tender and served with a creamed kale. Perfect portion size and nicely plated. I so wish i could find a place like this in Connecticut. Its almost worth a 3 hour one way drive to eat here...
The service was impeccable, world class. On the other hand, the food was flavorful but inconsistent, especially in temperature. A steak entree was served with cold peas, warm asparagus, lukewarm meat, it tasted great but was strange, as if it came out in stages. Other entrees were similar. For the price, they can do better.
If you have not gone...go! One of the best meals ever. Yes pricey so a very special occassion will be worth it. Staff was amazing. Ambiance perfect. Just go! You won't regret it.
I just can’t say enough good about this place. I’ve been here three times and it’s been amazing every time! The service is fantastic, it’s prompt and curtious with out hovering. The timeing of the courses is near perfect and spacing spot on. This is class a dining with out the stuffy atmosphere.
Absolutely delicious. My spouse chose better -- her ordered the trout. I had gnocchi because it came with fiddleheads and ramps, but the sauce wasn't very saucy. Service was awesome. Wine list amazing. Would definitely return
Very nostalgic place. Great service. Felt a little uncomfortable with some of the names of the food choices, especially the pairings. I was not sure what to order. A little out of my price range. It would need to be an extremely special occasion.
Great food and great service. Many creative Meal options to choose from.
This was the second time we visited T & C...the first time was really great - good food, excellent service - but this time the food was poor and the service, while still good had lost some luster after the awful meal. The breaded pork was cold and tasteless. The waiter took it back to warm it but the damage was already done. My duck was simply a dry mass of shredded poultry. Flavors of black beans and rice were ok. We were disappointed. Maybe the menu will change and we'll return but not for some time.
First time eating here it was an anniversary gift from our daughters and were so happy they did it loved the restaurant the food and the waiters were excellent very friendly told us about what the food was that we were going to eat . We definitely will be back !
This is a first rate, exceptional restaurant. The menu is exceptional and the food lived up to the description. I would recommend The Tailor and the Cook to everyone looking for a fine dining “foodie” experience.
Was the best meal I have had there! OUTDTANDING!!!!!!
The food is pricey but very good. We had a great waitress and really enjoyed all of our food. I had steak and my wife had fish. Both dishes were cooked well and to our specification. Presentation, etc... was beautiful.
