Overall a decent experience. Food good, not spectacular, service good, a little intrusive.
The food was very good and it was a very pleasant dinner
We had a reservation for 7 and we were not seated till 7:40. Our server was wonderful and sweet! But they werMy husbands steak
Good entree but the desserts need a lot of help strawberry shortcake was sad and pathetic
Comfortable and friendly environment - nice break from the King Street rush. Food was excellent - service was crisp and attentive. Overall very enjoyable.
We made a reservation for dinner at 9:45pm, when we arrived the waiter told us the kitchen was closing and he could not guarantee our meals would be served. Why let a person make a dinner reservation for 9:45, if the kitchen closes. It was a waste of time, thank goodness for Indaco being able to accommodate a party of six for a last minute dinner.
Food was wonder, only 1 negative.
My husband had the Carolina Gold Rice and it was horrible. It was ver mushy and had no flavor. Besides
That all the food was fantastic. Our server Danner was top notch! Wonder ambient live piano music was great.
The food was excellent but we felt very rushed with the service.
A restaurant in an up-scale hotel is expected to be of that level. The ambiance of Swamp Fox was not. The service was good and pleasant but the food was not satisfactory. The main course of pork chop and beans was absolutely inedible. I have never had a pork chop that was as tough to chew as this one. Even with a meat-knife I had a very difficult time sawing through the over-cooked meat with sections that couldn’t be swallowed. The beans were so over cooked that they fell apart when picked up with a fork.
The management did make some amends by reducing the cost of my meal.
My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and I had fish and grits. We both thought the grits were too watery and had way too much pepper. My fish had a rubbery texture and was hard to cut with my fork. It was translucent and raw in the center. Great service from our waiter but we were disappointed in the food and won’t be back.
It was ok at the most. Reviews were great but food was just plain. The bread was undercooked, the shrimp & grits was plain/ tasteless. It was a unmemorable experience. There was a piano and music was beautiful but we were sat at the table farthest from the piano and it was so loud at the restaurant we could not hear anything.
Food was okay nothing special
Nice place, above average food. Live piano made it a bit loud but it was enjoyable. Great service. Fried chicken was good but a tad dry. Shrimp and grits were very good. Southern sampler was our favorite. Ambiance leaned a little basic hotel restaurant. Interior could stand to be renovated or refreshed to be brought up to the quality of the menu and service.
The entrees were very good. My Halibut was ordered Medium but came Well done. My partners entree was perfect. Otherwise the taste and seasoning was excellent The service was acceptable. The waiter did not refill drinks/ask if we wanted to order another. Not a big deal but unusual for a higher end restaurant. The small room was extremely loud due to a party of 7 seated nearby. Again, not something that can be controlled. The Swamp Fox would not be my first choice in Charleston based on this experience.
Subpar for Charleston SC. I am local and had never eaten there before. I will not visit again given the other superb options available in the area.
Deviled eggs delish! Love the she crab soup! Fried okra as good a my grandmother’s and elevated with goat cheese. I also appreciate the covid precautions in place.
Have eaten here a few times. Usually a good experience. Tonight was fair. We were seated next to two senior women, one boisterous on her phone. I don't understand why staff allows this. I had to ask to be moved. Staff should have tactfully told woman to take the call outside or simply hang up. There are no excuses for that rude behavior or staff not addressing the boisterous phone call in the dining room.
Delicious food. Great service. Reasonable prices.
It was very noisy, that was the first impression. Also, the ambiance was not great. Service was okay, though we were served bacon in stead of porc belly without being told. We found out later there was now porc belly. Also no beers on tap. The food was okay but nothing special and 12$ for 4 deviled eggs (not good ones) is too much. All in all not a good experience and we don’t recommend.
The food is simply delicious. The fried chicken, salmon and fried green tomatoes are out of this world fantastic!
Bridal Luncheon - It was perfect!! Our server made the day!!
I do not recommend the hush puppies as an appetizer because they were burnt and I couldn't even stab them with a fork. The grits had no flavor and at the time they had no carbonation for my drink. The waiter had no pen to take my order so he told me he would "just do it from memory"...well that was not a good idea!
The matre de needs to be more welcoming. He did not speak to us as we entered and he barely spoke to us as he seated us.
The concierge was very helpful!
The Shrimp and Grits was the best I’ve ever had. Absolutely delicious! The She Crab Soup was also fabulous. The Caesar Salad with grilled chicken was outstanding. The chicken was very well seasoned and grilled. The server was attentive, kind and genuinely happy!
Great she crab soup and shrimp and grits . Excellent service
I would not recommend this place if your visiting Charleston. There are many fantastic places to eat and this place just isn’t one of them. Hush puppies were served burnt, burger wasn’t good. Service was very slow. It was very disappointing compared to other places in Charleston. If you cant get a reservation somewhere else, I would recommend going to the moes down the street from here.
The food was delicious. My sister and I had the catch of the day which was an incredible grouper. The server (I believe his name was Jordan) said that the fish was served with gnocchi but it was not. It was orecchiette which was fine but not what we were told. Service was very slow and my mother's food came out cold after being placed on the table directly next to us, which had two diners sitting at the table. However, my mother received a remake less than 5 minutes later which was hot and tasty. My sister and I are both servers and understand when service is slow, however the service this night was poor. Overall, the food and drinks were very tasty but I would probably sit at the bar or lounge if I were to come another time.
Food was excellent. Salmon and Shrimp and Grits! Service was very slow. Appears not enough help!
😊 very nice experience--- food was excellent-- friendly staff
Great meal had fried chicken salmon and shrimp and grits all plates were great service was excellent
Went before a show and thought the meal was delicious and reasonably priced. Will go back next visit.
Great food and service.
For the quality of the food the price should have been 1/3 what it was.
Our family celebrated my moms 82nd birthday with a dinner at the Swamp Fox Restaurant at the Francis Marion Hotel. The food was EXCELLENT. My mom got the fried chicken and it was deboned and delicious. She ate every bite. Even though she was full, our waiter recommended a desert. She ate every bite and all of the ice cream that topped it ! I absolutely recommend the Swamp Fox Restaurant.
Our server was not attendant to us at all. She had another person aid us in bringing our food. The host was the one to bring us bread after we waited a while to be greeted and we had to get his attention to bring us side plates when our server didn’t bring us any. Food was delicious, we just wish our server served us a little better. We don’t know if we will be back.
My family hit Charleston on our family road trip and after spending the day at the Magnolia Plantation we headed to the city for a ghost tour and needed a place to eat prior to our next adventure. The Swamp Fox is located in the Francis Marion Hotel and offered an ideal location prior to our tour.
The restaurant offered nice ambiance and we were greeting with a warm welcome. Crisp warm bread arrived shortly after we received our drinks, mine an Ankle Breaker, a hotel original. We opted for She Crab soup and Fried Green Tomatoes as appetizers. Both were very good. The soup just a tad thicker than ideal, but the Green Tomatoes were unique with some jam and goat cheese adorning them for a special presentation of this Southern classic. My wife and I opted for the Shrimp and Grits and it was rich and delicious- creamy and flavorful. My son had the Truffle Burger and could barely get his mouth around it. My daughter had the fried chicken, which she devoured. The only complaint she had was she did not get dark meat as she had seen on another diners plate when we had entered.
Our server was excellent and made sure we were able to make our tour time with ease. All around very solid food and service.
Staying at the hotel for vacation, food was fabulous ! Service was great as well.
Dinner was excellent. Service was great Close to our hotel.
Jamie was fabulous! Only missing Rodney Strong wine🥰
