Most of the food was very good but the service at the table was poor. It was a buffet so our old plates should have been picked up and never got picked. I don’t understand a 18 % automatic tip for a buffet. Most of the food was excellent except the fish was horribly over cooked . Would not recommend
I dined solo for Thanksgiving and very much enjoyed the buffet and excellent service offered by all the staff.
Outstanding food and service. I had the salmon served crispy over chunks of sweet potato, wilted kale, garlic, etc. - terrific. Excellent southern cuisine, served expertly.
The food is delicious and the price is great. It is a local favorite of mine.
Very goos service the waitress was helpful!
Food was ok notjunt special
Extremely slow breakfast service first morning.
Pleasant evening service by Rachael, food moderate.
Final morning super service breakfast from Lee.
Very good food. My steak came out cold but the server took it back for a warming with no issues. I think they waited too long for the potatoes that came with my steak as they were piping hot, so I suspect timing was the issue. But once everything came out it was very good; tender and delicious.
Had tried She crab soup, Small shrimp + grit, which was recommended and the crabcakes. They were very delicious. Thank you for the recommendations!
Had great lunch served by Loren and manager Monique! Po boy sandwich with local fried shrimps was so good.
Seamless, courteous efficient service.
All right diners raved about their food.
Prices were very reasonable.
Ambiance was wonderful.
The high ratings of the restaurant are well deserved.
Great food, excellent service, wonderful piano music in the background. Highly recommend this restaurant.
great food will go back great service lovely evening
The shrimp and grits were good, but the hush puppy appetizer was over cooked. The bacon jalepena syrup was good.
Excellent service. We will be back great for a group. Price was excellent value.
Lovely spot. Excellent service. There were four of us and each of us loved our dinner. Piano added to the experience. Good spot for relaxing conversation and lingering over a drink.
Food was delightful. The service was not bad, but was not the best it could have been, a little slow, and a slight mixup in the order, but aside from that it was a very good experience. I would certainly return.
This was our first time at the Swamp Fox. We were a little disappointed when walked in that it was next to the hotel, and not in the hotel. It had a busy, cafe type ambiance. What made me want to stay was the piano player. The music "saved" the atmosphere. The food was very good, and our waitress was great, however the service was too slow for each course. Even the cocktails took a while to come. Overall, it was good, and I'm glad I experienced it during restaurant week, otherwise I may have been more disappointed.
A fair price for the offerings. Good service and greet people.
Liz is a great server. Food was good and dining room has a good view of Marion square.
All excellent. Manager most kind and server very attentive. Blackened catfish was generous portion, perfectly prepared. Wife and son had steaks, also perfectly to order. Nice view of Marion Square from our window table. As fine as any restaurant on or near Bay Street.
Service was outstanding! Food was very good with very large portions. I probably should have shared a meal with my friend. Would highly recommend.
They properly charge my credit card for our meal. But they also put a second charge for someone else’s bill on my card. Now I will need to call my bank and go through the hassle of getting the second erroneous charge reversed. They were understaffed do my guess is that was the cause of the error.
If you’re looking for Southern hospitality & cooking, The Swamp Fox is the place to be in Charleston. Our family enjoyed dinner here while on vacation. We were expecting it to be a bit more upscale, however the atmosphere is pretty basic hotel restaurant. Service is friendly and attentive. The food is a fresh, inventive take on classic Southern cooking. Their Shrimp & Grits specialty is delicious, & I enjoyed the August Farmers market special.
I had read quite a number of reviews ranging from 5 to two stars and decided to give t a chance. We were seated quickly far away from the too loud piano player. Our Server was gracious, even when my wife returned a glass of wine for being too sour. My wife had the Bouillabaisse which had plenty of seafood and flavor. I cannot say the same for my Shrimp and Grits, it had a watery cheese sauce that tasted as it could have been made with Velveeta (not cheddar or something else deep and rich), which was not really incorporated into the grits. I have had much better in Charleston as well as other Cities in South Carolina. Sorry but I expected better.
Ryan was friendly and a knowledgeable host. Liz was attentive and very warm. The food was fantastic and we enjoyed our evening in Charleston! They are very accommodating with gluten free choices and they are clearly noted on the menu!
One of our favorite restaurants. We celebrate at least once a year for birthdays or anniversary!
The piano music was fabulous and the food and service was very good.
Best steak I've ever had in a restaurant, wife still makes better however :). Server was very kind and hospitable but slow. Food took longer than we would have wanted. Prices are what you would expect from a fine dining experience. Overall, good.
It was a quiet Monday night. I get that. I had a Negroni (very good). I ordered the shrimp and grits appetizer and the house salad with crab cakes. The shrimp & grits was really tremendous. Among the best I have had anywhere. However, the "entree" salad with crab cakes was a disappointment. The herby ranch dressing was delicious. The crab cakes were...okay. But the greens--you know how sometimes you keep a bag of salad greens too long and you pick through them trying to catch all of the gross slick ones and still have enough good leaves to make a decent salad but in the end you despair and throw out the whole bag because you can't believe that your adult life contains such a ridiculous task as rinsing individual leaves of mesclun greens because you don't want to be wasteful? Well, the restaurant served them rather than throwing them out.
I blame Monday. Go for the dang shrimp & grits. Have a cocktail. Check your salad.
The food was top notch. Don’t miss out on the grits and fried chicken. Jillian and Rachel made the evening unforgettable. Both deserve major kudos for making us feel right at home.
Great food, good service
The staff was very professional and efficient. The food was delicious. I will definitely come back.
Great food. We had the southern fried chicken which was excellent. Nicely paced experience. We enjoyed it so much that we went back on the next day and chose the pork chop special which was excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant !!!
We had a really amazing time at the Swamp Fox! Thanks to our server Jill and their chef there it was an amazing experience and I cant thank them enough for making our first time in Charleston so awesome. :)
Not even close to the expierence that I was expecting. The service was the best part of the dinner as the food was bland and simply not up to my expectations. Considering we ate at Cru Cafe a few days earlier maybe we this establishment had no shot at impressing me or the rest of my family. Again the manager and server did their part but the kitchen was not up to the task.
Bacon wrapped scallops: undercooked and tasteless. Slimy would be a better description. Peach Crisp: good flavor considering there was ZERO “crisp”. It was cinnamon flavored peaches with a scoop of ice cream. Very poor value. Waitress appeared to have 4 tables of which two were unoccupied and the others each seated a single couple. SLOW service ( for no apparent reason ) and NO checking back with her two tables. This place may be historic, but is showing wear. Park across the street features ‘friendly’ homeless crowd. The handwriting was on the wall. . .4th of July evening and every restaurant in Charleston was booked solid - - except this one. My mistake; given the same choice in the future I’d probably pass on this place and hit something better like Taco Bell.
Great food and excellent live music. Chefs know what they are doing.
It was ok for what we needed (a quick convenient location).
We ate at the Swamp Fox our last night in Charleston and aside from the food, the service was lacking. We enjoyed bacon wrapped scallops and she crab soup, both were tasty, superb and filling. The piano in the background was enjoyable, a nice twist benefiting the ambiance. The service, provided by Sara was sub-par when compared to other waitresses we had. Our drink order was delayed although others were receiving their drinks and I had to ask for a steak knife for my pork chop even though she had previously said she would bring me one. I don't know if she was pre-occupied or what (restaurant wasn't busy), but her service could've been better. As such, my scores for this restaurant is lower than I had hoped, however the issue is fixable and needs to be (fixed) as it (restaurant) has everything else going for it.
I had the Farmers Market Dinner. The strawberry soup was delicious. The fish was too salty. Decent price for 3 courses and wine.
