    The Statehouse is a must every time we are in Madison. As usual, the food was excellent. They only disappointment was the service - it took 20 minutes for the server to first approach the table. Once he engaged with us, he seemed uninformed, hurried and aloof. Hopefully this is an isolated incident. The location, food, and scene are excellent. We will be back - and hope for a better service experience.

    We had a wonderful dining experience at the Statehouse! We drove there from Dubuque IA to celebrate our 65th wedding anniversary. The Edgewater is where we began our married life together and we were reliving memories. Of course, we did not recognize the dining areas as so much has changed but the food, drinks, service were absolutely wonderful last night! At ages 91 and 85 we are so blessed to still be able to celebrate together! The Pearces

    Three of the 5 dinners we ordered last night were sub-par. We sent back a strip steak that was ordered medium rare and came over well done—dry, gray, and dusty. Fortunately, our server took the charge off our bill. I was embarrassed to learn today, however, that the two salmon dinners were received cold. Our guests were too polite to say anything while we were at the table, but I was totally embarrassed, as they had come from out of town and we were celebrating two birthdays. To top it off, there appears to be no way to talk to a real person when calling. You get a whole series of voice messages, even when you "press 0 for personal assistance," and then it leaves you at a dead end. SO annoying. The view is magnificent and the drinks were good, but I doubt we will be eating there again.

    Amended original reservation to request a window table, received it with no glitch. Terrific view overlooking the lake. Sebastian was an excellent waiter. Meal was well-paced and very good. Took my daughter for a special occasion. Will definitely take my wife.

    Such a disappointing experience tonight when we attempted to go to the Statehouse for dinner. We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and were seated promptly. Most of the restaurant bodes gorgeous views except for one side of the dining room. The structure of the building on the right side of the room creates an obstructed view of the gorgeous lake and sunset. So FYI, if you’re going for the ambiance, I recommend requesting to sit elsewhere. Which is what we did eventually after no one came to our table for over 10 minutes. The hostess moved us to the outdoor patio which has a beautiful view of the water and told us she’d send someone right away. But we waited another 10 minutes until a server finally came. No drink menu was given, and the server had to leave once again to get that. When he returned, he finally took our drink order and we put in for an appetizer. My husbands drink arrived and was wrong, and the server dashed off without giving us a chance to ask him to fix it or taking our dinner order. In the meantime, the table next to us was sat, greeted by a different server, ordered drinks, appetizers, recieved both of those and ordered their dinner before we even got our appetizer. Over 45 minutes past our arrival, our server finally asked us for our dinner order. At that point we decided to close out and leave, because at this price point the service should be so much better. This clearly isn’t a reflection on all the servers as the one serving the table next to us was on her game. And I will say the butter board we ordered for our appetizer was outstanding. But we’ve personally never received such poor service at a restaurant. So just something to beware of if you dine here!!

    Typically the “Go To” restaurant for special events, the Statehouse failed to impress this time. We arrived 10 minutes early and were promptly seated, it was a full 20 minutes before anyone brought water to the table and 30 minutes before drinks were received. Normally a window-side seat would be great, but in this instance the three window ledges near our table (36?) were filled with dead bugs, I scanned the window sills farther to the left and they were all ok. There were enough dead bugs to dampen your appetite as you wondered what else may not have been cleaned. I would have subtly told a manager, but none stopped by the table. Waiter was a good kid doing his best. Food was outstanding.

    We went for dinner on July 22. The Statehouse dining room was so loud that we couldn’t talk without yelling. The service was lacking: a beer took 20 minutes and coffee didn’t arrive until 5 minutes after we finished dessert. The food is good, but overpriced for what you get.

    The lake view is still the best in Madison. The bread is way too salty; bread board is goofy. It's Wisconsin, just serve butter! Salads were good. Entrees were fair, at best. Salmon was fishy; frozen? Crispy skin chicken-no crisp. Steak was good. Everything is overpriced for the quality. We keep returning after disappointing visits. Still disappointed.
