The Spinnaker - Sausalito Ratings and Reviews
the table was great with spectacular view. I had requested it for celebrating an 80th birthday. Thought they would bring cupcake or something but did not happen. I ordered the mixed seafood grill , supposed to have shrimp, scallops and fish, only one lonely scallop and three shrimp included. I was disappointed but the rest of the party was happy with their orders. The sea bass was excellent, will order next time.
Perfect. We had a drink in the bar prior to being seated at the best table in the restaurant. It was very relaxed and the hostess was kind and caring. Although it was a little foggy, the view was still fantastic. The food was great as well as the service. It was truly an enjoyable evening on all counts.
We often find ourselves driving from Sacramento to Sausalito to have lunch at the Spinnaker for special occasions. The view is amazing, the food consistently good, the service excellent. There's typically something on the menu for everyone from gluten free to vegan and everything in between.
The experience from start to finish was incredible. We waited in the bar a few minutes and enjoy drinks and a friendly attentive staff. The service was incredible, along with flexibility with the menu special requests. The menu is huge and the food was fantastic. The views are second to none in the floor to ceiling glass windows. Just fantastic.
My wife and I have been making a trip to San Francisco and Sausalito from the the east coast for the past four years, and we plan well in advance to eat in the Spinnaker restaurant because it is one of our favorite places. Even if it were not situated on the Sausalito waterfront with a spectacular view of San Francisco, it would still be a great restaurant.
The service has always been very professional and yet friendly, and the food is excellent. This year, we went twice. Sue was our server, and she was so accommodating, friendly, and helpful. For example, on the first night, while we were eating our appetizers (crab cakes and a seared sea scallop/mussel dish in a heavenly sauce), we watched as she made a Caesar salad table side for the couple next to us. I am very fussy about Caesar salad and usually will not order it in a restaurant because most don't make it properly. But this was exactly right, complete with marinated anchovies, olive oil and a coddled egg dressing made on the spot, with fresh parmesan cheese and just a tad of croûtons. So we asked if we could have it also, before our mains, and she asked the kitchen to hold off on our mains and made one for us as well (warning us it would be a lot of food.)
The food in general is excellent. We enjoyed the bouillabaisse and a mahi mahi special on out first night, and a halibut special and a macadamia nut crusted Petrale sole on the second night.
The ambiance is subdued and the restaurant is quiet. As we sat and enjoyed our dinner while watching the ships coming in and out of the bay, and felt like special guests, we were very satisfied that we found this special place.
I hadn't been to the Spinnaker in over 20 years and was looking forward to celebrating my 70th birthday there. We were so disappointed! The service was awful. Had to ask for a wine list, had to ask for water, had to ask for another glass of wine, etc. Had 3 waiters and the first two went, well, who knows. The restaurant was virtually empty and the food was mediocre at best. I was hoping for a wonderful dining experience to rival what I remembered, but that was not to be.
We crossed the Golden Bridge and chose The Spinnaker for dinner so we would have a good view of the rising full moon. Well, nature didn’t cooperate with being able to see the moon, but by the end of the evening we could have cared less. This restaurant is flat terrific. From the valet parkers, to the greeter, to the service staff you won’t meet anyone who doesn’t bring a smile to your face. Wonderful menu choices, the food delicious. But, but, but...it’s the view! An uninterrupted, spectacular view across the Bay to The City. We will return!
We love this Sausalito gem for the views from the waterfront of sailboats, seabirds, the occasional seal, and SF skyline. The food choices can be pricey, but always have been delicious. I was happy to see some lighter choices on the menu. Their Clam Chowder is clam generous & flavorful. Crab cakes were awesome. I personally don’t care for the matchstick French fries, preferring the steak-size because they stay hot longer-the only way to enjoy them. Husband enjoyed his shrimp salad & vegetarian friend loved his ravioli choice. Overall we enjoyed our New Year’s brunch. Side note, some of the chairs are worn & thread bare. They need to be updated.
We booked well in advance for the dinner of New year's Eve. We had to wait more than one hour before we even seated at our table. We were not offered nothing during this long wait and we really felt that they were pretty disorganized and clearly had overbooked. We understand a bit of a deal for such a night but it was too much of it.
Food was not great and actually I could only eat less than half of my grilled fish skewers since it was blackened by a way too strong fire grill. Also there vegetables were very bland and definitely tasted as they had been previously frozen. Our waiter was nice but the overall ling wait for the table, long wait for the food and ok quality of it made it not worth it. The view of the city skyline was very nice but we didn't have a table close by the window. Not going to recommend it.
We spent New Year's Eve there.
Sure it was crowdy but nevertheless the meals and drinks we ordered were served quickly. Many waiters were on duty this night and they were well organized.
We could eat a öa card. Which was perfect for us.
Music, DJ and dancing was cool. Ee and alll guests dad great fun.
Our family was able to get together at The Spinnaker to celebrate the end of the old year and the new year just a day away. Part of us came from Utah the other part from Sonoma County -- it was our annual get together, and a tradition to get together here at the Spinnaker . It is always good!
Reservation, food and ambiance were fine. We had a terrible server who was flippant and even surly. Two of us had eaten a late lunch and were not starving so we ordered the Cesar-salad-for-two and a crab quesadilla appetizer. His response ‘Is that ALL?’ (Not ‘would you like those as appetizers or as your dinner?’). He did not listen well or ask for clarification and just brought a regular Cesar salad on two plates. I was looking forward to the tableside preparation. Nope.
His attitude was terrible throughout dinner for 5. He never asked if we would like coffee and was annoyed when we ordered it and he had to print a new bill. The experience was particularly annoying as two of us had lunch at Original Joe’s in Daly City earlier today & the server was outstanding. Everything was outstanding -so much so that on our way out we asked to speak to the manager and commended them on a wonderful experience, food and employees. Not so much at Spinnaker. We have been coming here for many years and never had a bad experience. Today I certainly felt that the attitude was ‘tourists- who cares’. As someone born in SF it really annoys me when servers have this attitude. Not good.
The Spinnaker is one our favorite restaurants. You cannot beat the view of San Francisco and the Bay. It is such a lovely place to go and it always impresses people from out of town. We dine here often and this time we were meeting old friends who now live in the Seattle area and were visiting. We all started with cocktails and starters. I had a wonderful salad and my husband had the clam chowder which is always great. I had a shrimp dish which was very good and my husband had a steak with fries which he really enjoyed but said it was far more than he needed. We split a hot fudge sundae - always a treat. Love the Spinnaker and the fact that it is very consistent and they also have complimentary valet parking with super nice attendants. Great service too and they don't rush you to order or vacate the table.
2nd visit and it was everything and just as amazing as our first visit. The accommodations are perfect. The table with a view and no fog was beautiful. Our server was impressive as his service was recommendable. Then there was the food. Definitely their food was five star. Highly recommend! You can’t ask for anything more. Love it
I have lunch almost 13 years ago, The experience for dinner with my grandson of 1 1/2 years was amazing the food the service the table was reserve with amazing view. Our server was a british man very understanding like a butler. I will recommended is amazing. There where business dinner nobody was upset for a family having diner.
I will come back again
The view, the food and the service were all great. Restaurant was nice and quiet so we can talk and hear each other. One thing I would do if I were the manager is to warm the french/sour dough bread before serving. I know it will be extra work but it would make it so much more enjoyable. I used to be in the restaurant business and I did that.
First off the views of San Francisco were amazing. The food was not as impressive as I remember it. The calimari we got wasn't good. The calimari itself was obviously fresh and not chewy but the breading was soggy which ruined it. The entrees were fine but not that exciting. The deserts were good. I got the bread pudding and my wife got the cream puffs.
The service was very slow. The server got our bill wrong. There were drinks on it we didn't order. He said there were removed from the bill but now I have been double billed. I am less than happy about it. Overall I wouldn't go back. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area.
