The Soca Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
We visited Soca last Friday at 7:30 PM. We had the octopus, beets salad, tacos, tomato-garlic bread, and churros. We ordered a pisco sour and a cocktail with pineapple. The food and the drinks were good, however, there were a few mistakes.
First, the menu at the restaurant is different from the one online. So when we got to the restaurant we ordered the octopus and to our surprise something completely different came out. In addition to that, the drinks did not arrive until after the first course. Then, the kitchen forgot to add garlic to our tomato-garlic bread, and the server forgot to apologize for their mistake.
Overall, it seemed as if the type of food they served was not a match to the Latin-Spanish theme. Some dishes were much so, but others really left us wondering...
Additionally, it felt like they were understaffed, with only one woman working upstairs and one man coming up occasionally to bring in guests as they arrive.
Another uncomfortable factor was the heat level, which was inconsistent throughout our dinner. The heat was either too hot or way too cold and there was a draft coming through the corner table; forcing us to use napkins to cover our legs.
We went to Soca Kitchen with friends. There were four of us and we ordered tapas style so we were able to try several dishes and everything was delicious. The wine list is not extensive but the Tempranillo we had was delicious and paired nicely with the dishes that we had. All of the dishes were excellent. Loved the ceviche, and the striploin for the table was very tasty as was the charcuterie plate with Iberico ham and manchego.
Great food! Very creative kitchen that never rests on past successes but is always moving forward and is consistently outstanding. The wine list is small and good. The service is attentive, but not too attentive, just attentive enough. The seafood is terrific and the octopus is terrificer!
Server underestimated size of plates, and we could have easily ordered less food in the end. The food was delicious, but I might recommend guests order a few plats to start, and then add more as needed. Upstairs seating was empty when we arrived, and heating came on as hot bursts. Service was great overall.
Food is very overpriced, it tastes good but still very overpriced and very small plates. Like they claim it's to share the plates and try a variety of them. But with my partner we maybe got 2 spoon fulls. Very dissapointed.
We enjoyed our meal at Soca immensely! We were a group of 6, the service was great, fast and the food was delicious as always! Soca is wonderful for special occasions as the dishes are priced moderate-high. Cocktails are fantastic, my favourite is the pisco sour! We had a blast and will most certainly return.
The food was good but the prices were too high - a small ceviche was $21 and could barley be shared between two people as a tapas. You’ll end up spending $40 - $50 minimum in food alone to get full (and I don’t eat that much).
I celebrated my birthday with my family and friends, we were a group of 10. As always, the whole experience was fantastic! The food was incredible, original and very thought through. They have new stuff in their menu, and I personally LOVED the short rib. It was flambé in sambuca, and the mole was just out of this world! My friends all loved the good old tacos, of course!
The service was amazing, both waiters were always attentive and careful to meet all of our requirements...
I’m now in line for a Tomahawk, and I CAN’T WAIT!!!
I always come to this place and it never disappoints. Food is top notch, and you pay for what you get for. If you don’t know about good food then this not the place for you. The staff is incredibly friendly and you can tell that they put a lot of work into every aspect of the service. Thank you for another amazing night Soca! Keep up the good work.
I have no idea where to begin. Ambiance is huge for me and Soca rivals most restaurants in Ottawa. You can hear the music and hear your table mates; wonderful! Food was so varied and more gluten-free options than most places we've been. Loved our host, Gustavo with Spanish accent and loads of charm. 5 star summer memory and definitely returning. Hasta la Vista!
