It was nothing out of the ordinary, the food wasn't great. The oysters were not tasty at all, it was the first time ever I don't finish the oysters. I wouldn't go again, I was dissapointed and it was definitely over priced for what it is.
Had a great time. The owners take the time to visite you. The only thing is, the food came out really quickly. In some sense it could be a good thing but with tapas I thought it would be more progressive and have time between plats. All in all, definitely recommend.
So delicious Soca! What a great dinner.. loving all the specials, they are definitely doing something different in Ottawa.
This night was great like many others at this restaurant.. consistently good :) I’ll be back guys!
If I could give 6 stars I would. Service was outstanding, our server really guided us through the whole meal without being intrusive. food and wine always good. I've been here before and its always been great but this time was simply amazing!
Had my anniversary dinner and everything was spot on. The food, was so fresh and delicious! You must try the whole fried fish and octopus (if your are seafood lovers like us). We had some margaritas and were so good we will be back for their fiesta mexicana!!!
We were late to no fault of ours and they accommodated us by sitting at the bar and it was great . Nice people ,good food and much more all good . I’ll be back soon ...
Overall great first experience. Tacos were amazing. Drinks were a little low on the alcohol factor. Oysters were fresh . Five ceviche was a little to lemony for my taste and tart. But overall quite pleased. Will go back.
Last Sunday, we three had a most enjoyable evening meal at the Soca Kitchen: Excellent flavourful, healthy food, agreeably served. Each plate had an appealing presentation, making me think- this is "haute cuisine". We started with the impressive sea food tower, complete with a full lobster, that was a pleasure to deconstruct. We followed with several other specialty dishes, all served with the chef's touch: sliced octopus, sliced plantain, beefsteak strips, each with remarkable scrumptious toppings or sauces-; and a delicious "pan tomaco". We would also recommend not leaving without a desert. We had the very tasty cinnamon cooked pineapple and what they subtitled as a cheesecake, but which I would call a perfect "parfait". I highly recommend the Soca Kitchen as an excellent place to bring special guests on a special night out.
This one of our very favourite restaurants in Ottawa. The food is amazing and the service is outstanding! Always a pleasure!
We were very pleased with the dinner: a very nice gin-lime cocktail, assortment of tapas we shared, included an excellent set of oysters, charcuterie for two, whole beet salad, octopus, beef strips. Interesting pineapple strips for dessert. Highly recommended, reasonably priced.
A tad pricy, however, worth every penny. The food was outstanding, specifically the tacos and the sourdough bread combinations. The cocktails are so different and delicious too! Will definitely be returning.
We felt we were pressured to order our food and leave the table as quickly as possible. Our server didn’t explain the menu but suggested we should order our main meal at the same time as our charcuterie dish for two. Our mains were then delivered to our table and we were barely 1/2 way through the appetizer. The tapas should be delivered one dish at a time, not when you are eating the appetizer and not when there isn’t enough room on the table. The food was good but not enjoyable, because we were rushed. We wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for that reason.
Great food with great flavor, friendly and helpful staff and great ambiance. Will definitely be back.
Always a good time. Food on point (gotta bring back that Dirty Rice dish though) and the tamarind Mojito to die for.
My girlfriend and me celebrated valentines a day early and were surprised that it wasn't busy at all but it was nice cause we got basically the whole restaurant to ourselves.
We enjoyed the tacos, piqullo peppers, shortrib steak, grilled calamari, and the totistos.
Highly recommend if you enjoy a sharing plate type experiences.
Incredible dinner at The Soca Kitchen! Loved how they pay with sweet and salty in their tapas! I had the calamari, beets, crispy plantain and bread with tomato and everything was outstanding! Next time I will try the charcuterie.
The food was fabulous and the best part is that we could try so many different things with variety of flavors. And the service was fast and friendly :)
I was super excited to try the Soca kitchen. Some of the food we had (the pan guerilla, the beet salad) was super delicious. I found the calamar and tacos to be just good. The churro dessert was a huge let down, and extremely overpriced. An unfortunate way to end the meal. We often waited a long time with empty glasses, waiting for drink orders to be taken and drinks to be brought. The restaurant is in a lovely old building. Unfortunately, this means poor insulation. We sat upstairs and would freeze for 6 minutes, and then feel like we were in a sauna for 6 minutes alternating. Not a huge deal, but worth mentioning as it was slightly unpleasant. Overall, I would say that although some of the food was really great, and the service was super friendly and kind, we were a little disappointed.
We were looking for something different from the usual. When we arrived and began reviewing the menu, we then decided to let our server be our guide. Gustav was very helpful, we let him lead our adventure. There were 4 of us and he chose a great selection of sharing plates with lots of variety and the $ amount at the end of the evening we felt was reasonable.
We enjoyed dishes not available elsewhere. And, the originality was tasteful. Recommended for people who want a change from regular fare.
Je regrette que la carte n'était pas bilingue.
So many small tasting dishes to share, I couldn’t finish them, all delish. Good for a romantic outing or with friends! Recommend making a reservation as it is a popular place and tends to fill up rather quickly
Such an authentic place! The vibe is very Spanish the waiter fantastic and the food is always so earthy and fresh. This dinner really took me back to Spain and lovely Barcelona.
I always come here and it never disappoints.
My first time at The Soca Kitchen and it will not be my last. To start we all tried different cocktails and I have to say they were all fantastic, the rosa maria was by far my favourite. Then we share a charcuterie and cheese board.. loved the presentation and the pate was outstanding. Then we shared some times (ceviche, tacos, beets and octopus) everything was soo good we opted to go for a whole fried fish! This did it for me.. it was THE BEST FISH I HAVE EVER TRIED.. if you haven’t been to this place, you are missing out! Oh, and the waiter was very spontaneous and knowledgeable! Thank you!
The upstairs seating is very cozy and confortable. The service staff was knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations for tapas, cocktails to start and Spanish wine. Sharing plates were delicious, would recommend for couples. I will be coming back on my next trip to Ottawa.
One of the best restaurants in Hintonburg hands down! The food is irresistibly good, we always share plates, but if you want to get your own you can too!
You can tell everything is fresh and home made. Their calamar is out of this world tender and the cauliflower if the perfect main course leaving you surprisingly satisfied!
Great ambiance upstairs and downstairs, I personally prefer upstairs and the noise level is lower and it feels more like a private dinning scene.
Always a good time and good eats!
Always fabulous! Some new dishes on the menu.. new octopus is to die for! Ive never had it prepared that way and it was excellent! :) very happy costumer!
I was really excited to try this restaurant, I had heard excellent things about it from friends. Sadly, my experience here was very disappointing. We went on New Year’s Eve and were seating upstairs by the window. It was freezing, there was a heater of some kind but it did nothing to warm the room. The drinks we ordered were okay but everything else was very disappointing. We ordered the steak and potatoes which would have been delicious if it wasn’t luke warm. I would go so far as to say the potatoes were colder than room temperature. The calamari was also cold and the huevos weren’t much better. Our server never came around for almost 45 minutes after our food was delivered so we couldn’t even tell him the food wasn’t prepared properly. I don’t think I’ll be returning.
Creative foods and great service.
Attentive and polite service
Fair price and good portion
Need a sign on the street
Great spot. Nice decor, great food. Thanks for so many veggie options. Cauliflower steak could use something else on the plate to make it more interesting. Waiter was very shy - didn’t even say hello.
A great find. An excellent meal with plenty of vegetarian options. Everything we tried was delicious, especially the cauliflower "steak." The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was not full; I suspect it would have been noisier had it been busier. Not convenient to our hotel near the ByWard Market, but worth the drive. (Also, it was Christmas and not a lot was open, so we were so happy to find The Soca Kitchen ).
We had a delicious Xmas Eve Brunch at the Soca Kitchen. We were seated promptly and were served at a leisurely pace which was perfect for us. There were good options for our Veggie as well as the carnivores. We really enjoyed the sea food platter and the delicious hot brunch entrees. All very creative and different. We enjoyed the cocktails, the cava and a nice tempranillo. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would go back for a special occasion. Thank you!
This was my third visit to The Soca Kitchen and once again the entire experience was unforgettable. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner who showed us to our table. Knowing we were there for a date night, the owner recommended we start with a Prosecco which was delicious. As an entré, we ordered what turned out to be the most amazing dish of the evening, the Seafood Tower. This is definitely not to be missed! With generous portions of oysters, shrimp, ceviche, and a large lobster, all prepared to perfection, this dish made our mouths water and we'll definitely order it again.
Following our entré, we decided to share tapas style menu dishes and ordered the pulled pork tacos and a dish with fried plantain. These 2 dishes were, like the Seafood Tower, unbelievably delicious.
The intimate atmosphere, amazing attentive service, and most of all the incredible food, all made for an amazing evening!
For foodies who love savoury foods and for anyone looking to impress a client or a date, I 100% recommend The Soca Kitchen!
Great spot all around. Staff were a great help and very attentive. Started with a cheese and meat board that kicked off the evening just right! It was excellent from there on in!
Fantastic - quality has not gone down one bit since they opened. Have the grilled calamar - they're absolutely amazing! Can't go wrong with seafood in general at The Soca.
We visited Soca last Friday at 7:30 PM. We had the octopus, beets salad, tacos, tomato-garlic bread, and churros. We ordered a pisco sour and a cocktail with pineapple. The food and the drinks were good, however, there were a few mistakes.
First, the menu at the restaurant is different from the one online. So when we got to the restaurant we ordered the octopus and to our surprise something completely different came out. In addition to that, the drinks did not arrive until after the first course. Then, the kitchen forgot to add garlic to our tomato-garlic bread, and the server forgot to apologize for their mistake.
Overall, it seemed as if the type of food they served was not a match to the Latin-Spanish theme. Some dishes were much so, but others really left us wondering...
Additionally, it felt like they were understaffed, with only one woman working upstairs and one man coming up occasionally to bring in guests as they arrive.
Another uncomfortable factor was the heat level, which was inconsistent throughout our dinner. The heat was either too hot or way too cold and there was a draft coming through the corner table; forcing us to use napkins to cover our legs.
We went to Soca Kitchen with friends. There were four of us and we ordered tapas style so we were able to try several dishes and everything was delicious. The wine list is not extensive but the Tempranillo we had was delicious and paired nicely with the dishes that we had. All of the dishes were excellent. Loved the ceviche, and the striploin for the table was very tasty as was the charcuterie plate with Iberico ham and manchego.
Good meal. Had most items on the menu, all were decent. Nothing outstanding though
Great food! Very creative kitchen that never rests on past successes but is always moving forward and is consistently outstanding. The wine list is small and good. The service is attentive, but not too attentive, just attentive enough. The seafood is terrific and the octopus is terrificer!
Fenomenal food and fun atmosphere! Well done once again
Love this place! Food was amazing, my husband and I really enjoyed our evening. Our waitress was very welcoming and attentive, the menu was exciting and different, flavours did not disappoint plus Spanish wine.. perfect evening out!
