In love with Soca, cant get enough of their ceviche! Ill be back very soon for the patio special!
Amazing dinner and cocktails!! Great patio!
Second Sunday in a row that my daughter and I ate at the Soca Kitchen. First Sunday we tried it mostly for the oysters, my first time trying them, absolutely delicious!! My first oyster was amazing. The second Sunday we decided to go back for their brunch, also amazing and yes we had oysters!! Service was the best, we had the same server the 2 weeks we ate there. We will definitely go back again and again. I would highly recommend this restaurant if your willing to spend the money. Can't wait for our next dining experience, and yes it will definitely include oysters!! Food, service and being a neighborhood gem is one of Ottawa's best kept secrets.
Great experience overall however service was a fairly slow.
Visited The Soca Kitchen for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and small, but relaxed. There was an upstairs dining that seemed more contemporary, but was however not open the night we visited. The service staff were friendly and well educated on the menus. We ordered the seafood tower, it was phenomenal. Perfect sharing for two.
Second time at Soca and we remain very impressed. The service was excellent and the food was incredible. The tacos and beetroot salad are must try items.
We dined here for the patio tapas specials, Very flavourfull and great presentation. Ceviche was amazing as were all the other tapas. Will definately go back.
Every bite took me back to my childhood in Spain. The octopus stunned me into silence, I was shocked at the flavours, texture, smells. The bread and jamon serrano was beyond words. I certainly recommend this restaurant :)
My daughter and I were looking for a place for a special journey. My daughter is an oyster lover and I have never eaten them before, and because I am an Anthony Bourdain follower of Parts Unknown, I decided it was time to try something new, that something new was to try my first oyster ( I ended up also having octopus for the first time. ) My daughter had wanted to try the Soca Kitchen for awhile now and that is the reason we ended up there on Sunday. One of the finest eating experiences we have ever had! Our future plan is to return there often in the future.
Table and ambience really nice. Food was great...when we could order some. Over the course of 2 hours, we had 3 different servers but none of them came very regularly or consistently. As a result, we didn't have a full dinner (or very many drinks) before we needed to leave to get home and relieve babysitters.
Nice cozy little place. Food is good but not exceptional compared to similar places. Could be more creative and tastier. and
Good to be able to get on the patio on a summer evening, less good that the service was a bit hit and miss outside . Food arrival took 45 minutes after being seated, Which seemed inordinately slow given this restaurant is all about small tapas style dishes. Nevertheless quality of the food was good, A rotating guest wine option might make life more interesting for regular diners
The Happy Hour is amazing value! Thankfully the tacos this week were much less oily than a few weeks ago. Drinks are tasty. Service can be a little slow.
We tried their brunch offering and were very pleased with both the quality of the food and the excellent service we received. We both ordered the typical Venezuelan breakfast -- the food was plentiful, very flavourful and creatively served. We're already looking forward to returning to try other options on their menu.
Overall our experience was excellent, there are lots of vegetarian options, and the service was great. I would recommend getting three plates for two people instead of four.
We ordered the:
the cauliflower steak - overpriced and not amazing 6/10
the steak with chimichurri sauce - not worth the money
fried plantain with beans - 10/10 must try
sourdough bread with tomato topping - 10/10 must try
pisco sour - very strong, great drink if you wanna get lit 7/10
passionfruit mojito - very tasty 9/10
Although some of the food was a little overpriced, I think there are lots of great options and I definitely recommend trying this place.
Delicioso! Just as always, they have new plates on their menu. Their lamb meatballs are to die for! I also went ahead and tried the fried chicken hearts, and they were very delicious! We also had their staple tacos and a raw bar tower that I can never say no to. I will be back soon to their patio!
Food was good but we did not feel welcome: the server took our plates away while we were still eating our dessert, they then proceeded with bringing the bill and then the machine. They did not leave the kitchen when we left. No thank you or goodbye. Made us regret the 200$ dollar we had just spent there.
Food was really good and the price was ok, but the alcohol (wine) was pretty expensive and the selection was small
it was a beautiful night for the patio, seating was comfortable and the wait staff were warm and informative. Food just did not deliver what it promised to.
My husband and I had the most wonderful time at Soca! The service was friendly and quick, the food delightful, and the ambiance was lovely. We sat out on the terrace sipping Dominion City’s delicious Sunsplit IPA and enjoying the sunset. The staff staggered the various plates we ordered perfectly, and everything was fresh and prepared beautifully. We will definitely return!
Loved the food here. The tapas were quite large and perfectly portioned for sharing. Delicious food and great drink options in a beautifully decorated space. Will definitely be back!
Took my husband here for a pre-Father’s Day Dinner. The food was amazing and incredibly filling for tapas. Attentive service, chill atmosphere and great for a quieter dining experience as the street isn’t very busy. Every plate we ordered was delicious. Will definitely go back.
Great service and food. The food looked great and the portion sizes were decent too. The ceviche had nice sized shrimp and good sized tuna. This was our second time around and would return again.
Great food, good service and atmosphere. Will definitely return next time we’re in Ottawa.
We were there for Margaritas and Taco night. The margaritas were delicious however the tacos were AMAZING! Will definitely return.
Amamzing brunch!!! Coconut french toast is a must! Perfectly prepared and my wife went crazy with the $5 mimosas.
Great spot with delicious food and good service. Really liked their atmosphere. Cocktails were refreshing (specially on a hot summer day) wine list was decent, food unique.
Visited with my father for his birthday and he loved it! We sat outside and ordered oysters, lamb meatballs and a whole fried fish which was outstanding!! mojitos are great too specially the tamarind! Our server was very polite and all the food was nicely presented as well.
Great dinner with my best friend! Love it, thanks Soca!
Always amazing! Mu favourite restaurant in Ottawa! Food is so fresh and authentic, service is very attentive and energetic! Loved their new menu items specially the tomato salad! Perfect for summer! If you visit on a nice day, you can’t miss their patio.
We were very disappointed in Soca. The service was horrible, the server did not take time to explain the menu given it was our first time there. He rushed us and coerced me into ordering something i really did not want. He was smug and did not return to check to see how the food was, he returned half hour after we had finished our meal.
The food was also disappointing, the fish was dry with some sort of sauce slapped on top, very amateur. We obviously did not like our meals as most of it was still in the plates. The waiter did not even inquire as to why, he honestly looked like he did not care. I have never been in a restaurant where the waiter was so aloof to clients.
I will never return to Soca.. bad food .. bad service.
Really enjoyed our evening, great food and service! Lots of good tapas to share, made it a fun meal.
Food and drinks were fantastic! We sampled the grilled calamari, lamb meatballs and sous vide steak. Be sure to try the Pisco Sour!
Seafood (lobster and shrimp) was dry. The cauliflower was $24 and was ok but not worth $24. Steak and sauces were great.
Brought my spouse to Soca kitchen for her birthday. She loved it. We over did it. Didn't realize how much food we had ordered until we got to the last plate. It ended up costing more then I had plan but this was one time it didn't matter. She was completely satisfied with it and said the price didn't matter due to the fact she enjoyed everything. Reminded her of our vacation to Spain. We already recommended to our friend who will be going there for her anniversary dinner.
Overall disappointed with the food, the beverage I ordered was small and not very flavourful.
Americano coffee was very weak lacked flavour.
A bit overpriced for the quality of the food.
I loved the small plate experience, friendly staff and knowledgeable manager/owner.
We had wanted to try this restaurant and were very disappointed. The food was well prepared but the portions were tiny and priced outrageously high. The drinks were also ridiculously highly priced with a Spanish run of the mill rioja crianza wine selling for $14 a glass. The tapas were nice to look at but had little substance. In one case a chorizo dish had tiny pieces sliced razor thin. The waiter who came to our person looked like he just woke up, at first I thought he was another customer who had lost his seat, he also had no personality or conversation and expected he would at least try to engage us and ask us if we were first time customers etc. Will definitely never go back.
Food was truly outstanding. We had the pork taco, beet salad and casserole with poached eggs.
Great spot unfortunately new staff (I’m assuming) and a swamped manager of the restaurant had to cover the slack on the poor service of the whole restaurant. Doesn’t seem right that 3 people single handedly cover an entire restaurant. There was no apologies when we had to repeat our order several times. Would return as I’m hoping this was a one off as the food and themed events make this spot worth returning.
