I went to Soca for the first time. I had heard positive things about it, but wasn't sure what I'd think of it. The entire experience was great. We tried a number of different things. Everything was very good. Service was fantastic. Our waiter was very good about giving food and drink recommendations. He also gave the right amount of attention (not too much, but we always had everything we needed and things were timed perfectly). Great experience overall.
Food quality is excellent. Price is as high as the quality of each dish. I Love it and will continue to go back again and again!
My family and I took advantage of the blind tasting menu and it was spectacular. Everything that they brought was delicious, even the complementary wine! Overall our dinner was fun, delicious and appetizing to the eye.
Restaurant has just five tables, little bit too close to each other, plus it has "open kitchen", it also makes some noise, not really romantic ÷)
It was our first time, menu wasn't "descriptive" for me, and waiter didn't help, even he tried. So, we ordered just rely on our luck. It wasn't bad at all, the food was good, but not exactly what I would like to eat that night.
Plus we forgot to order bread, which was necessary for the meal we've being served, and we waited for another 10 minutes before we got it.
Overall it is a good place if you like tiny restaurants and familiar with the cuisine.
I was disappointed. After seeing the reviews, this is a good place to visit when they have a special's promotion.
I was in Spain this summer, this is a creative take on the food which is presented nicely but small tapas portions and limited menu for the prices to be so high isnt worth it for me.
Service was okay, not super friendly, seemed like they rushed us out when we didnt order dessert.
Not a lot of choice if you are vegetarian.
Every dish was so tasty and creative. It was wonderful. Tastebuds still lingered after we left the restaurant. Service excellent and pleasant. Would recommend for any foodie occasion which should be anytime.
The food was so good and the service was also great. My friend and I shared the pan serrano, tostones, tacos, and huevos (eggs). My favorites were the pan serrano and tostones but my friend’s favorite was the tacos. I highly recommend sharing everything so you can try more things!
One of the best meals I had!!! The cauliflower steak was amazing with its 2 different sauces and the pulled pork tacos were amazing. The sangria was delicious and the grilled mango with the added cinnamon crisp was fabulous. Fun atmosphere with excellent service. A definite must as it is well worth it.
After wanting to attend this restaurant for so long, I brought my family in to celebrate my son's special B-day. We found the service to be somewhat cold, distant..non engaging. The food was just okay but too expensive for the size and portions.
The decor was just ok also: nice, clean and quaint, but for the cost of the meal, one would expect no plastic
dusty plants. It has more of a Cafe feeling to it.
Our server (partner/owner) brought us water which initially was cold, but then just really luke warm.
The main thing that we were disappointed about, was no to see/have 'Spanish Paella' or 'Pabellon
Criollo.....or even Yuca Fries (not that I could spot this one on the menu easily),as someone suggested for the Dinner Menu in this colum .
My son had chosen Socca Kitchen because of the Pabellon Criollo which was featured on the On Line Menu...but it was served 'at lunch only' as we were told by the owner Partner (Gustavo) once we were already seated to eat. It'd be great to have more transparancy and more main course choices.
So we just opted for appetizers and 1 beer which came to near $140.00 with the tip.
Too expensive for the size/ value of the food received. ***Moreover, my one son found a loooong dark hair in our food, which unfortunately we did not report, and when I tried several times to reach it the same evening of the meal ,the call always went to Voice Mail.Likewise the next day. Same today.
He did not raise a complaint right at the table since it was his brother's B-day, and wanted no cloud of negativity over the occassion. Rather , he passed on discreetly the one slice of his Sour Dough Bread appetizer that had come into contact with the hair, to someone who had no clue...and just eat it.
For the one son, there was no real Vegan options. The restaurant was rather quiet and after a while only one waitress/helper could be seen at the end for us. I am not likely to return or recommend given the inability to even connect with management.
Soca Kitchen is a great little spot on Holland Ave. The food and atmosphere are wonderful and the staff is very passionate about their food. Would definitely recommend and will definitely go back!!
Girls night out, we ordered 7 tapas to share and we loved all of them! We enjoyed the quality of the food and the surprised mix of ingredients that were all so delicious. Will definitely go back.
I heard great things about this restaurant so I wanted to try it for myself. I was taking myself out on a date, as a way to get to know myself once again :) So i wanted to try a new spot so The Soca Kitchen was where I wanted to go and it did not disappoint. The service was great, the food came quickly, and the flavours oh my!!! It was absolutely amazing!! The portions of the items i had chosen was perfect for 1 and after I ate, I ordered dessert which too was delicious. When I got home, I ended up making another reservation for another date with myself! I look forward to trying new items on the menu each time that I go. If you want delicious food, great atmosphere and cozy spot - The Soca Kitchen is the place to go!!
Service was great, menu was very different from most restaurants, so if you want tasty tapas, it's the place for you. Vegetarian options, well plated. Quaint - does have a patio. Will absolutely go back with friends.
A great night, we had mentioned it was a 10 year anniversary celebration when the reservation was made - I hoped they might have a special desert or something to help celebrate the special night.
This is one of my wife and my favourite restaurants. The food is fantastic, and the friendly service combined with the laid back, casual ambiance makes for an all-around great experience for any occasion.
Such an amazing find! Our first but certainly not last time to eat here. The food was delicious and we loved how the tapas were served on separate trays. My martini was spot on also. Overall, simply excellent!
Came here for a friends birthday, the food was delish the service was great. Plates are meant for sharing which is nice because you get to try a variety of dishes. Tacos, Tostones, ceviche were all soooooo good.
Thanks, the food was excellent!
We walked in and was greeted in a pleasant manner. We sat at the bar cause it was raining outside. We had the taco's and margaritas. Margaritas were ok, too much ice for a small glass. The presentation of the tacos were great however the meat was very dry. it was cooked too long.
Wine by the Glass is way over priced for 5oz. it was $14.50 for a frigging glass of white wine. Will not be drinking at this place.
We had a great evening. The server was friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. We had difficulty narrowing down our food choices and were not disappointed. We will return.
As I have spent time in Spain and my wife in Venezuela the Fusion of both countries cuisine interested us and they did not disappoint. We will go back. It was nice to try the Seafood Tower but we will replace it with another tapas next time we go. Loved it.
Sangria was very watered down and the food was not great.
Great service and good food! Will be back!
Oysters were amazing, loved the Ceviche, stuffed peppers and carlamari was tender. Found prices a bit high for their portion sizes and quality but would still go back.
Did not enjoy the deep fried lamb meatballs, too much nutmeg/cinnamon-more moroccan I found-others love this dish but it was not for us.
The Soca Kitchen is a very nice restaurant that serves exquisite food. We have highly enjoyed our dinner once, our brunch this time and are planning to come back again. The dishes are prepared and served elegantly and with a bouquet of flavours and colours that make your selection there to be unforgettable.
Delicious Spanish cuisine, staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. Very vibrant and energetic restaurant atmosphere. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion with a larger group as food is shared!
In love with Soca, cant get enough of their ceviche! Ill be back very soon for the patio special!
Amazing dinner and cocktails!! Great patio!
Second Sunday in a row that my daughter and I ate at the Soca Kitchen. First Sunday we tried it mostly for the oysters, my first time trying them, absolutely delicious!! My first oyster was amazing. The second Sunday we decided to go back for their brunch, also amazing and yes we had oysters!! Service was the best, we had the same server the 2 weeks we ate there. We will definitely go back again and again. I would highly recommend this restaurant if your willing to spend the money. Can't wait for our next dining experience, and yes it will definitely include oysters!! Food, service and being a neighborhood gem is one of Ottawa's best kept secrets.
Great experience overall however service was a fairly slow.
Visited The Soca Kitchen for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere was quiet and small, but relaxed. There was an upstairs dining that seemed more contemporary, but was however not open the night we visited. The service staff were friendly and well educated on the menus. We ordered the seafood tower, it was phenomenal. Perfect sharing for two.
Second time at Soca and we remain very impressed. The service was excellent and the food was incredible. The tacos and beetroot salad are must try items.
We dined here for the patio tapas specials, Very flavourfull and great presentation. Ceviche was amazing as were all the other tapas. Will definately go back.
Every bite took me back to my childhood in Spain. The octopus stunned me into silence, I was shocked at the flavours, texture, smells. The bread and jamon serrano was beyond words. I certainly recommend this restaurant :)
My daughter and I were looking for a place for a special journey. My daughter is an oyster lover and I have never eaten them before, and because I am an Anthony Bourdain follower of Parts Unknown, I decided it was time to try something new, that something new was to try my first oyster ( I ended up also having octopus for the first time. ) My daughter had wanted to try the Soca Kitchen for awhile now and that is the reason we ended up there on Sunday. One of the finest eating experiences we have ever had! Our future plan is to return there often in the future.
Table and ambience really nice. Food was great...when we could order some. Over the course of 2 hours, we had 3 different servers but none of them came very regularly or consistently. As a result, we didn't have a full dinner (or very many drinks) before we needed to leave to get home and relieve babysitters.
Nice cozy little place. Food is good but not exceptional compared to similar places. Could be more creative and tastier. and
Good to be able to get on the patio on a summer evening, less good that the service was a bit hit and miss outside . Food arrival took 45 minutes after being seated, Which seemed inordinately slow given this restaurant is all about small tapas style dishes. Nevertheless quality of the food was good, A rotating guest wine option might make life more interesting for regular diners
The Happy Hour is amazing value! Thankfully the tacos this week were much less oily than a few weeks ago. Drinks are tasty. Service can be a little slow.
We tried their brunch offering and were very pleased with both the quality of the food and the excellent service we received. We both ordered the typical Venezuelan breakfast -- the food was plentiful, very flavourful and creatively served. We're already looking forward to returning to try other options on their menu.
Overall our experience was excellent, there are lots of vegetarian options, and the service was great. I would recommend getting three plates for two people instead of four.
We ordered the:
the cauliflower steak - overpriced and not amazing 6/10
the steak with chimichurri sauce - not worth the money
fried plantain with beans - 10/10 must try
sourdough bread with tomato topping - 10/10 must try
pisco sour - very strong, great drink if you wanna get lit 7/10
passionfruit mojito - very tasty 9/10
Although some of the food was a little overpriced, I think there are lots of great options and I definitely recommend trying this place.
