GREAT FOOD AND WINE. We got there early and then the place filled up and service was still great.
I love Smoking Goat! Consistently great food in a very congenial restaurant.
The rear table in the main dining room usually holds a large party celebrating some event. The noise level can get high if your table is close.
We had an awesome dinner at Smoking Goat on Saturday night. There were 6 in our party and everyone ordered something different from the appetizers, to entrees to desserts. We were blown away by the food, everything was amazing! Hopefully nobody noticed because we were all sharing bites. Definitely will be back again!. Although next time we'll Uber over, parking on a Saturday night is a bit of a challenge.
The Smoking Goat is our staple date night spot. The standard is always high and the service is above average but not pushy in any way.
The New York steak with duck fat truffle fries is always delicious and the escargot and frois gras are both excellent appetizer choices.
The ambience is perfectly cozy for a date night, family dinner or if you want something a little more intimate. The place isn’t huge so you don’t get the feeling of being one of hundreds in a cavernous room.
Wonderful food, great service.
Food was amazing. Service was really great. Very nice wine selection
Food was good, waiter was good, but the wine selection by the glass was PRICEY...one glass was almost as much as my dinner!!
Excellent meal from start to finish. Enjoy our meals everytime.
To start with, they did not get me a table, but tried to seat me and my gf at a high top despite having a dinner reservation. They said there was no space available so we sat at the bar to wait for an outside table. 20 min later they sat us ... Not in the dining room, not outside.. but in this hallway sort of space between the bar and dining. It was loud and bright.
Then, the service. I give 2 stars because the runners and bussers worked hard. The server was abrupt, didn't.make eye contact and stopped by twice to take orders and leave.
The food was hot and tasty though.. just not the ravioli so much. The pork chop was really good.
The food, service and wine were delicious. We will be back.
Food was really good. Menu had interesting options. Duck fat French fries were to die for
Great food and service, a little on the pricey side. One of the best cups of French Onion Soup I have had in SD. Will be back
The duroc pork chop was red.... not pink, way under cooked
We almost ordered everything on the menu and every plate was better than the next. Service was great as well! Thank you smoking goat for a great evening
The Smoking Goat is one of our new favorites! Initially went for a weeknight meal and had to return for a birthday dinner. Great and friendly service with excellent food. Definitely recommend the octopus appetizer and the duck entree.
Very intrusive Electronic music not in keeping with any discernible ambience. Overly sweet sauce with duck dish. Poor value wine.
Food was outstanding quality and price very reasonable
Excellent food and amazing service.
Thank You for the Great experience.
A really nice spot where the food is consistently good and the service reliably excellent. The octopus appetizer is wonderfully delicious and the salmon entree prepared exactly as I like it. If only the music coming at us from the speakers were not quite so loud as to be intrusive I would give 5 stars across the board.
The food and service were outstanding as usual. This is one of our 4-5 favorite restaurants in San Diego.
Was expecting service to be a little nicer, more helpful. It was our first time dining here, didn't leave a good first impression on any of us. The food was good no complaints, but waiter was a bit too pretentious for our liking. He would walk by and drop things onto the table, rather than placing it down. The first time we thought it was an accident but after he did it with the bread and dessert menu, we noticed that was his service style. We also had mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, no dessert or anything (doesn't have to be on the house, I wouldn't have minded paying for it but at least bring something or say Happy Birthday). Shame...
Had dinner with my husband. Menu is perfect, something for everyone. Service was awesome and a Hispanic and Caucasian working that evening of Oct. 08, 2018 was very accommodating and very professionl. Will be back definitely!
A busy Friday night, but our friends from England were impressed with food, waiter’s knowledge of wines, and service. We had French onion soup, steak tartare—best ever-, Brie appetizer, and Pei mussels. Those were just starters! Then followed by duck breast and salmon for entrees—all delicious. The Pinot Noir was memorable.
We stayed for 2 1/2 hours. A favorite place to dine!
we were celebrating 2 anniversaries...excellent steak frites and duroc pork! house lable wine was excellent and a good value. nice, comfortable spot, good background music
Service was wonderful, attentive staff and great food! Will come back again!
Perhaps it was just a fluke this time, I’ve dined here a number of times although it has been a while, but it wasn’t as good as it has been in the past.
Excellent on ever lebel
Food was decent. Went for restaurant week and prices were decent. Would not recommend sitting outside. Too many flies
The food was phenomanel! The Foie Gras is a mush try, very flavorful.
The Smoking Goat never disappoints. Always a wonderful meal and great service. Thank you!
None of it really wowed us. Everything tasted pretty bland. If I’m going to spend $100+ on a meal for two I need to be impressed before considering going back and neither of us were. Also not sure why I made a reservation a week in advance to be sat at a high table next to the bar/entrance. The chairs are super uncomfortable.
The food, as usual, was the highlight. The bar is limited to wine and the Korean wine substitute for vodka. Wine pours were short. Amount of food for the money, however, was surprisingly good. And the food quality was outstanding. For the service, they seemed to be in a big rush, despite not having all the tables filled, because they gave us the wrong food twice, and switched the orders in our table of four twice.
One of the best meals I have ever had. The service was outstanding. Can’t wait to go back!
Having previously traveled to San Diego several times for work, I was never able to escape the downtown and therefore thought the dining experience in the area was limited. With some encouragement from locals we ventured out and discovered this gem. Excellent service, amazing cocktails and delicious food. I recommend the scallops while my friends loved the pork chop and lamb. If you are looking for goat you won’t find it here — apparently it’s merely a mascot!
Service very good and ambiance was nice. Appetizers... Tartar was okay, Octopus was amazing. Entrees... Pork chop was very good, Duck special was slightly over done. For the cost the food issues were a bit disappointing.
We have been had dinner now three times and we love the Rack of Lamb dinner entree and all the waiters and servers are hospitable, attentive to our needs and request, friendly, sociable and polite and experienced in their craft.
We have become a regular and hope to continue dining with you all.

Smoking Goat is one of our favorite places to eat. We live in the neighborhood and walk/drive for a great meal and they have never disappointed us.
Food was stunning! We would go back in a heartbeat. Our server was totally underwhelming unfortunately... Everyone around him was amazing and working hard however. He was the weakest link. The food and preparation was top notch! The crab stuffed peppers appetizer was out of this world and worth the trip, even if you ate nothing else! I’ve eaten and enjoyed rack of lamb all around the world. The Smoking Goat’s lamb is easily on my Top 3 Ever List, if not my #1.
My steak was excellent and cooked to perfection all the way through. Meal was delivered hot to the table. All in my party of four loved their meal. Server was attentive, helpful, warm and fun. He made suggestions for my drink choice bringing me samples of two before I ordered. We were too full for dessert but then were overheard by our server saying we had no birthday dessert to celebrate my son’s birthday. Server brought out a complimentary dessert. Great evening.
Amazing spot! Hand made noodles were to die for!
