My work crew came here for dinner this past Friday and it was the most fun meal experience ive probably ever had. Great place for special occasion/memorable evening with friends or coworkers. The bartender was the best and our server was really sweet and wanted to make sure we knew what we were ordering etc. WHAT TO KNOW: Come with patience and a sense of humor and adventure. We tried all kinds of things, some we liked, some we didn’t, but I knew it would be like that going in. Make sure to order a drink at the bar when you get there and bring it to your table, then order another round as soon as you sit down, or you’ll have a big gap between your first and second drink (lots of places are like this so NBD). What to order: for drinks, ask for the special color changing cocktail with the sweet pea/cucumber infused vodka and soda. It was AMAZING. The dill Infused vodka with the salmon caviar was recommended by our server and was a perfect combo. The BORSCH!!! So good!! I want some now!! The khinkali dumplings were so yummy AND very instagrammable. The julienne was also really good. The stroganoff was kind of tough so I’d skip that, but other folks liked it. That’s something I make regularly at home so I may be a little partial to my own recipe. All in all, it was the BEST meal experience and my group could not stop talking about it.
First time diner for Sunday brunch. Authentic food, premium vodka selections, attentive service, casual environment and a funky vibe.
Overall so great! The wall of vodka is so fun and the food is delicious. Bar service is great - the bartenders make solid recommendations. Be prepared to wait for food if you come in to dine. Table service isn’t the best, but the atmosphere and food are awesome.
Don’t be afraid to try everything! Service great - pelmini was so good!
Excellent service, great Russian ambiance, great people, excellent food!
We went to the Russian House for the first time on a Friday night. They immediately took us to a private room which was unexpected but nice. Our daughter was adopted from Russia so we wanted to try it. So glad we did! I had the hot borscht soup which was so good! Highly recommend. For my main course I got Beef Stroganoff. Again this dish didn’t disappoint. There were 5 of us and everyone enjoyed everything they had.
I had been wanting to come to this restaurant for several years and was not disappointed with the food and most of the decor. Our waitperson, Sergei, was extremely nice and informative but clearly run off his feet. As with most restaurants in Austin, there is not enough wait staff. We are older people who were celebrating a birthday, and were placed in the front room, next to the street. This turned out to be the 6th Street drinking room, which was not what we had in mind. I now know they have private dining snugs, as well as a more elegant restaurant area. I would have been much better pleased if we had been seated in one of those places but didn't know to ask for them. Our age alone should have clued someone that would have been a better place to seat us.
Interesting setting and really good food. The service wasn’t great and could have done without the fruit flies.
Great service and ambiance! Also, wait staff had great recommendations - appreciated their suggestions. Food was delicious!
We greatly enjoy the food and atmosphere of The Russian House. It also has very good service. This is our fourth time (a birthday celebration) and it never disappoints.
I love the Russian House. I've had small parties here in one of the private rooms. I've celebrated anniversaries and birthdays, and once even ate on Christmas.
The food is amazing. I always eat too much here! Caviar and herring, and my god, the soups. Last time I tried the Tabaka and it was delicious! Oh, and you want to try the vodka infusions! They are out of this world! I love the caramel one for after dinner.
The service feels very Russian - no one will be subservient - but they make sure you get what you want and always have the best suggestions.
But you are really coming for the atmosphere. When you come into the dining room you feel like you are entering a small house in Russia, complete with lace table coverings and chandlers.
Over all, one of my favorite places in all of Austin.
But be ready to get a Lyft home- we always end up drinking more than we planned! Hic!
Decided to go on Easter Sunday for a different brunch experience and we did get that. The food was interesting and mostly tasty. I was a bit concerned that it was a buffet. But they presented it safely. We were not greeted at the table and had to ask someone if we had a wait person. Probably will not go back.
Great authentic Russian cuisine and experience. Loved the traditional music. The food was delicious and the server was pleasent. Highly recommended this restaurant when visiting Austin!
If you're looking for something authentic Than This Is The Place. The food was absolutely phenomenal. The only complaint I have is that the service was really really slow, I'm talking three hour dinner.
The only down side was the inability to split checks. I put $800 on my card and others had to Venmo me. Not the most convenient.
We did not get waited on for more than 45 minutes and after we ask if we could order food they still did not wait on us so we left. Sorry because me and my wife really was looking forward to spending our anniversary there.
Food is excellent!
What an awesome experience!! The food was amazing. We ordered numerous things just to try as much as we could and it was all wonderful. Borsch was so delicious and the meats were terrific. Can’t wait to go there again.
Great food, not great service, kind of loud as it was full
We really enjoyed this restaurant, the food was great as was the service.
Loved the food, service was excellent,
Will be back when we are in town again!
Great new experience with traditional Russian cuisine. Staff was great and would recommend for anyone to try.
I loved this place! Such a gem with authentic food and great service
Such a fun place. A little chaotic, in a good way. Food is solid.
Great food. Great atmosphere!
My favorite place in Austin!! It's a whole experience! The service there is of such high quality. They take the time to make recommendations and cater to your preferences. And the food is phenomenal. 10/10 recommend!
Great food and service
They did NOT honor our reservation. We were rejected at the door, without any notice in advance, because they are overbooked. They even blamed me for making reservation in a short time ahead.
Me and my fiends then had to look for another restaurant in the new year eve, a time apparently all other restaurant have no availability.
This does harm the image of both the restaurant and OpenTable. A proper follow up on this issue is expected.
Everything was great! The at-home feeling is a nice touch.
We 5 went on New Years Eve and it was great. Russian ambiance throughout the place as well as the food and of course vodka!
This is our special “ go to “ place when we want something different and fun. We have NEVER been disappointed there. Now the noise was a bit more than normal (you usually can have a quiet dinner there) but it was New Years Eve and they had children there with a DJ and it was just great!
Kitchen timing, service, tv video game audio motif, all need work!
Great service great food great place! Will go again!
A nice little place with a good vibe. Be willing to step out of your comfort zone and try some different foods.
Great Russian food. Felt like we were sitting in a Soviet Era dining room. Desserts were especially delicious!
An amazing and unique experience. Hands-down one of my favorite restaurants in Austin now! I can’t wait to come back, sure the environment and decor is definitely Soviet Russia but the food and drinks completely make up for that. It was such an interesting and cool experience to go somewhere so different and I really enjoyed myself
I will definitely be back! Fabulous service, Sergei was amazing; food was different, but in all the best ways!
The Ambiance and the amazing food. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. highly recommend the Russian House.
Celebrating birthday! Excellent overall experience, seated in private room, attentive service.
Unique-100’s of infused vodka’s -different dining experience-authentic Russian food and people. Avoid the “rush”
Hour for best service/attention -by 8:30, all tables were full. Liked Mushroom Soup, Lamb shank, Ukrainians Sola, Russian Rabbit drink! Made with infused Jalapeño and carrot vodka (all vodkas are hand made by Chef Vladimir! Dining area is separate from bar area-dining area is made to feel like your sitting in Russian Grandmas house-fun experience, must try if your a vodka lover ($6 per shot) made with Russian Vodkas (which “felt” like a different drinking experience-the vodka is kinder to you-I wasn’t buzzed, just felt relaxed and absolutely no feelings of “geez what did I drink” in morning) hubby had porter Russian Beer-he liked a lot
