The Russian House Ratings and Reviews
The Russian house is great! Very ethnic and delicious dishes. The soup is high priced, small portioned but worth it! Everything we had was delicious. They give you complimentary shots of vodka when you dine in. I can recommend the chicken dishes, blinis, soups, and dumplings.
The atmosphere is like being in an old Sovuet apartment. I went with my fiancé who was born in the Soviet Union, so I know this. Ethnic decor, the staff speak fluent English and Russian and the drinks are awesome and reasonably priced. Try Chef Vladimir's special drinks, over 25 spices and herbs in each one, totally awesome and unique.
Free parking in this area is scant. The only downfall, if you are driving, is the $10 an hour lot next to the restaurant. If you're contemplating, just do it, you won't regret it! The food is great! We are definitely returning.
This place used to be 5 star and very authentic. End of 2017 and it’s gone down hill. Not sure if they changed chefs, but they definitely changed recipes and for the worse. Many of the Russian standard Zakuski are now Americanized. They are skimping on caviar and at the same time the prices seem to have gone up just slightly.
5 years ago when it opened it was an awesome place with super authentic food and a huge selection of flavored vodka nastoika. Now, it seems to be more of a Russian light. Hopefully Austin gets some competition in the Russian food department because regardless of what culture you grew up with, Real Russian food is awesome!
A really fun night.
A picture of Lenin.
A large stuffed bear.
Waitresses in semi-period Russian peasant garb who act like they are having a great time working there.
A welcoming amouse-bouche of housemade sauerkraut served with a shot of vodka.
The best Latvian sparkling wine ever. And maybe the only one too.
An enormous vodka list.

We'll be back.
Really excellent food with nice portion sizes. My servers accent was a little hard to understand, but we did OK and she was excellent ( my first time). The menu is pretty extensive and she let me take my time ordering. I took some food carry out and it could have been packaged better - standard styrofoam containers and one leaked all over. However the food was still excellent reheated. Will definitely dine here again when I come back to Austin
very pleasant experience. Our 3rd time and we keep going back because the staff is exceptionally friendly, the food is interesting and very good.
We had Salmon roe , followed by a shared rice/lamb dish and ended with a shared cake. We had 3 small glasses of vodka with the meal and we didi not miss the wine. we drank some water as well.... :) The bill was moderate so we shall be back
The ambience was very unique and cool. The waitresses were dressed in what seemed like Russian attire. They gave complimentary vodka shots with some bread and veggies, which was a nice touch. My husband ordered the cabbages which he enjoyed. I ordered the Georgian chicken and was disappointed. My dish literally had 3 small pieces of chicken. For $17, it was disappointing. I would expect a breast of chicken at least for that price. We also ordered crepes which had meat inside, and came with a side of sour cream. Husband enjoyed the crepes. While I was highly disappointed with my chicken dish, we would give it another try and try something else, in hopes that other dishes are a little better.
The food here is amazing . I had forgotten how many great foods are from Russia- beef stroganoff , chicken Kiev , goulosh , stuffed cabbage etc.
The dining room is like stepping back in time and dining at your Granny's . The vodka and selections rival any in USA. This place is a spotless gem!
Take the journey 6,000 miles across the world and several decades back in time, to the Soviet Union! Dishes from most of the 15 former Soviet republics are on the menu. My favorite is the Georgian Chicken Chakhokhbili, with a tasty tomato-based sauce. Enjoy your evening, comrades, at the Russian House. NaZdoroviye!
A group of us were in Austin for the weekend and happened to see your restaurant when we were walking from our hotel, the Hilton, to see the bats one evening. We made a late night, 9:15PM, reservation and were not disappointed. We loved the cozy dining room and the food was delicious and presented very artistically. Thanks for the experience :)
Had a wonderful dinner and our server was polite and attentive. Before dinner we had two of their many infused vodka varieties and had fun playing the piano before being seated!
Food was delicious, try the lamb, and our dessert was the perfect cap to a quiet and tasty experience.
A must visit for anyone looking for a reasonably priced dinner for two. Well under $100 (with drinks)!!
Anastasyia (not sure of spelling) was wonderful. Very attentive and so friendly and helpful. We've had her as our waitress before and she was great!
My daughter and I were there for the Mothers Day buffet and I was so happy that they had so many delicious choices, plus juices and coffee were included. Only problem: eating so much!
When you first walk in, you feel like you're in the favorite room in the house for the neighborhood. For dinner, we were escorted to a private room where we could even close the door for conversation and not be over taken by all the cheers of what seemed, many locals watching a tv show. The atmosphere is fun and the staff are pleasant. It's unique and the cuisine felt mostly authentic.
I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. It was well decorated. It reminded me of being in grandma's house for a semi-formal dinner. The food was top notch. The service was very fast and friendly. Most of the staff are Eastern European or Russian that adds authentic flair. I will be back.
We had a fantastic dinner experience! As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the hostess who took us into the dining room that very well could have been someone's Russian grandmothers. It was very cozy and clean. Our server Alex was perfect. Since this was our first Russian outing he was extremely helpful by explaining the different dishes and giving us great recommendations. The Shashlik with elk was well seasoned with dill and spices, our favourite so far. The manty dumplings were large, filling and hearty. We will definitely be back again to try the other fabulous dishes!
