To explain: We do not have prime rib as a cut in South Africa. I was introduced to prime rib in 1979 at a NY steak house and was immediately smitten.
Whenever I get to the States, I will order it if it on the menu. The prime rib at the Rib Room was outstanding. The best I have ever had. Congratulations for exceeding my expectations.
Waited to be greeted at the our 2 top table. We were put in a corner. The waiter was assisting with a large party and we felt neglected. Food was mediocre at best, my wife’s lamb chops tasted as if the were seared in pan that was used to cooked other food. My king cut prime rib was cold was not served with hot au jus. Just not good
Short Rib is fabulous! Great atmosphere and wonderful view if you are lucky enough to get a window seat. Love this place!!!
Amazing service, delicious food
Overall, a great dinner at the Rib Room. Great wine, onion soup and blackened prime rib. While service was very good, little things got forgotten - didn’t take our menus after we ordered. Promised more bread for the table - never provided. Would have liked more attentive service, with more frequent visits to the table.
This restrained was located in the hotel we stayed. We stay at the Omni regularly, and as a result, eat at the Rib Room regularly. Seldomly disappointed.
Love the Friday lunch $2 drink specials, but the food, service and signs of decaying ambience aren't top notch. French onion soup is always great but the crab cake was just so-so. In a city like New Orleans, I think that they can do better.
Not that i can give a bad review of the restaurant..the food was not what i expected. Its just not what we expected... Service was GREAT, atmosphere was AWSOME...
Regardless of the fact that we didn’t like the food, it would have still been great if all the dishes were served at the same time. My husband did not get his meal until 10 mins after I received my side (no not my main plate, I was served that about 5 mins after they brought out my side). It took the server 20 mins just to take our order and we waited over 30 mins just for the first appetizer to come out (it was a salad).
We had excellent service and excellent food. We had filet, chicken, and BBQ shrimp. The price we paid for 6 shrimp swimming in a delicious bbq sauce should have been peeled. When I’m at a 5 star restaurant i don’t not want to have to peel messy shrimp. Other than that it was an excellent meal.
Amazing food, I had the scallops and filet steak. Highly recommend those. Our waiter Dayton was very attentive and helpful when selecting our meals.
The reputation of the Rib Room is well earned. Overall the best part of the experience was the food quality. I highly recommend the St.Louis ribeye, especially for the steak lover. Cooked to perfection, this steak could almost be cut with a fork, was perfectly seared, cooked exactly as ordered, and presented in a timely manner by an experienced and very cordial serving staff. On the menu, the St.Louis ribeye is a diamond in a pile of diamonds.
Nice atmosphere . Very good service
Just a waste of time. Bad service, and cold food for 200 per couple isn't worth it when there are so many other options downtown. Waited almost 15 minutes for our drinks, then ordered a different side with my cold prime rib instead of telling me I'm sorry we are out of that item you would like beforehand I wasn't given that option and bought out the original menu choice without being told . Also waited 45 minutes for a very awful gumbo between courses . Once I finally called a manger over to let her know about my prime rib being cold along with the au jus , she did offer to replace it and by that time my other guest were almost done. She did take mine off the bill along with the gumbo and give us a discount but unfortunately this was the worst Valentine's Day dinner we ever had. Finally after 15 minutes of not seeing our server she came over and asked for dessert choices which my guest had already chosen off the set menu. Sorry again for 200 per couple almost not worth it.
Sat at our table for 30 minutes before server showed up. Took 2.5hrs to get through three courses. Real bad way to do Valentine’s Day.
Food was a bit cold, Sever took a while to take care of us
In a city of great food and value this place was a disappointment. It is attached to hotel and is in its bar so that should sum of up.
Always enjoyable but particularly so this time of year
We went for the prime rib and it was a good piece of prime rib.
Sadly the room was emply at 630pm so we had excellent service.
All around fantastic
The Prime Rib and ShortRib entrees were top notch in taste!
The service was good at Rib Room but the overall experience was just ok not great as I was expecting.
Great. We loved it.
Great service, excellent food both quality and taste. Options for everybody's taste. Little bit pricy but worth every dollar.
As an annual guest of the hotel we always try to eat at the Rib Room and were not disappointed this year. Husband had the turtle soup and foie gras as entree. Both delicious. I had a surprisingly wonderful shepherds pie. Not your usual s/p, but loaded with chunks of roast beef and veg covered in creamed parsnip potatoes. Cant wait to t ry that at home! We had a bottle of very commendable and reasonable Filus label Malbec to complement the dinner. Our waitress Norma was attentive tho the room was very busy.
Expected slower service due to New Year's crowd, but the service was really, really slow. Still a great spot in the Quarter and we'll be back, but not pleased at all with the level of service this time.
Overall I was very disappointed. I made reservations a week in advance. We arrived an hour before our reservation to have cocktails in the lounge. I let the hostess know that we were there early and would have drinks until our reservation time. At our reservation time they told us we needed to stand there and wait as our waiter wasn't ready for us....never heard that one before. My mother can't stand very long, so after a while I insisted they sit us....which they reluctantly did. They must have been understaffed for the evening as it took quite a while to get the attention of our waiter and that was the case most of the evening. It was a Saturday night during a busy holiday weekend....so this should not have been a surprise. I browsed the wine list while contemplating our entrée selections. I was thinking of a French Bordeaux so I asked the waiter to speak with the sommelier about the options. I was told that there wasn't one. So, I asked the waiter if he could help me with the options. He indicated that he didn't know anything about the wines. So....for a restaurant of this caliber and reputation I was terribly disappointed. The services was well below expectations and the lack of any wine knowledge was mind blowing. The food was pretty good.....not fantastic as should be expected. My father had the fish almandine and it was very dry. My duck was good. My wife and mother had the fish special which was good.
Unfortunately I cannot recommend this as a good stop when there are numerous other great places within steps of this one and throughout the French Quarter.
I booked the reservation to take advantage of the Reveillon meals being offered at select restaurants around town. Unfortunately, The Rib Room chose not to serve their Reveillon menu on Dec. 30 and there was not any mention of this on the website with the special menus. Very disappointing. Our food was good, but not great, excepting the French onion soup, which was off the charts great. My rib eye was brought out medium instead of the requested medium rare (though it still tasted wonderful) and my $8 side of Brussels sprouts cooked with bacon was a dish of complete mush. My friend enjoyed her salad and prime rib. The most disappointing part of the meal was our server who was exceedingly condescending. He seemed relatively unconcerned that my steak was not cooked to order and completely unconcerned that my side dish was awful. Plus he kept calling my friend and me, two women in our 40s, "girls." He was awful. This wasn't nearly as great as my last experience there (2 years ago) but I'll definitely go back given the chance. Just will request a better server.
Lunch in the Rib Room was great choice! William
The server was polite and attentive. Went with the Turtle soup and Beet/Goat cheese salad and they were delicious. Complimentary valet parking was such a nice perk too!
Best prime rib in NOLA!!! Great ambiance as well.
Excellent service and meal. I have been eating here since 1969 whenever I am in town. The service and the quality of the food never varies, always excellent. And the price is in line for the quality.
Everything was absolutely fabulous except , surprisingly, the prime rib, which was way too salty and tough! Totally sub par and definitely not “prime”.
We had a 6:15 reservation and the restaurant was not busy. We ordered wine and cocktails. The cocktails were nothing special. We were a party of 6 and all 6 meals including sides were over salted. The waiter asked how everything was and we said salty. Nothing more said. No apology or I’ll let the kitchen know. We left the restaurant and bought 6 bottles of water. The service was mediocre. Waiter was nice but we had to ask for butter, sherry for the turtle soup. This is certainly not our first time at the Rib Room, we’re locals but it will be a while before we return.
My wife and I were celebrating a special occasion so I booked a room at the rib room. We got all dressed up (which i never do) and made it to our reservation on time at 8:30. We were seated by 9 o’clock which is not too bad. But then by 945 we only had water and French bread. The manager came by and said he was coming to take our order and he never came back. Our waitress came by one time told us high And she would be back, and she never came back. It Took so long, I started to look around me at other tables and NOBODY in the restaurant was eating. Only one table had food on it . We were so disappointed in this restaurant, I will never go there again. I would not recommend this place to anybody!!! So disappointing. Thanks for ruining our special night
Poor all around
We ate at the Rib Room for nostalgia because a there is quite a family story about a relative working there fifty years ago. We both ordered the princess prime rib. It was more than enough food with the accompanying sides. I would recommend medium rare cook on the meat. Our server was very attentive, and it was a lovely atmosphere.
We ordered a few different apps, salads and soup. BBQ shrimp, French onion soup, Gumbo and two different salads. Nothing was outstanding have had far better. The prime rib and steaks may be a better choice but you would hope all things on menu would be.
