About The Rest
Bodega is the street level Tavern, that offers no frills cocktails in addition to draft beer and shots.
With a reservation, or if allowed admission from the Bartender upstairs, you can experience The Rest. It is a subterranean gem that looks like a bar that Hemingway would have built. Dark wood, taxidermy, old books and plenty of good whiskey. Perfect place for privacy and escaping the world for a minute... Or hours.

The Rest Ratings and Reviews
My time at The Rest was absolutely amazing!!!!!!!! The food, lighting, and general ambiance was AMAZING!!! And I can't fail to mention that vinyls were being played all night and it added such a special touch of warmth and authenticity that you don't find much these days!!! The wait staff is out of this world amazing. Our table was ready when we arrived, we were seated quickly, and our waitress was absolute perfection! From Mocktails to Dessert I give this restaurant 5 stars!!!!!
We were referred here, but will NEVER come back. The night started off well enough. Cocktails were good, appetizer was okay, and we ordered the beer can chicken. Which we heard was one of the best on the menu. It was an hour wait, but we were okay with that! The atmosphere was relaxing and fun. Chicken breast was very dry, so we were able to eat less than half of our meal. We kindly let the waitress know and ask for some compensation. That's where it all turned south. The manager came over to our table, threw the check down and said here's a little discount. We paid $40 for the beer can chicken, and they gave us a $6 discount. I went up to the bar because our server was nowhere in sight and asked if I could talk to someone about my bill. That's when the manager came back and was very rude. Never an apology for the chicken, instead, he said that it looks like we ate the majority of the meal. That's ridiculous, the entire breast was still there on the plate. As I was talking to him, he scoffed and walked off! Our original waitress came over to take care of it, and to check us out. Matt, the terrible manager walked past our table one more time. I told him he was unprofessional, and he said, "maybe you just aren't a good fit for this place." I am absolutely appalled at the unprofessionalism and service of The Rest. Absolutely no customer service skills. We will never give our business here again or refer anyone.
The roasted veggie appetizer was fantastic and so was my drink, the Flatliner (I think). We ended up buying a gift card for my brother we loved it so much. Only suggestion: the vinyl is a great touch, but keep it to the scratchy jazz and older music rather than newer stuff. Better for ambience.
Very cool experience. You walk into a tiny dive bar and think that you're in the wrong place. The bartender is the host and she then unlocks a door for you to go downstairs into the restaurant. The ambiance is very nice and welcoming. Our waiter was extremely detailed in his explanation of the drink and food menu. The drinks and food were outstanding. I highly recommend The Rest.
We love the unique concept and ambience. Food was mixed. The Hot Chicken, ravioli, hush puppies, and vegetable platter were amazing. The fried steak, which we'd had about a year earlier and loved, was pretty mediocre this time around. Disappointing at $39. The Begneits which we've had many times and loved were doughy and undercooked. Hoping this was just an "off night" as we've enjoyed this restaurant a lot in the past.
Cool place, very unique, something that doesn’t feel like SLC, though SLC is an awesome city.
Majority of food was high quality and cooked well. Choice was limited but they change their menu fairly frequently.
Overall great unique dining experience. I enjoyed myself.
It had been a couple of years since I've eaten at The Rest and it's even better than I remember it! We got the ravioli and carrots with hummus appetizers and the Smoked Pork shareable for 2. The food the was excellent. Service was exceptional and drinks were on point. Would highly recommend for a special date night or small group dinner with friends. I doubt you'll be disappointed!
Nice place, drinks are way over priced, food is good, not outstanding, service was not relative to prices...music, way too loud for such a small place, good choices with old school tunes...just needs more consistent volume turned down a bit so you can enjoy the setting.
The Rest feels like a secret society. A relaxed, dimly lite, eclectic environment good for conversation. I live the record player and record selection, but the staff are the best. They take the time to explain the menu, answer questions and explain the history of the location. A must try, but a little pricey
When you go, prepare to be there for awhile, as it took FOREVER for us to get our food. We ordered the pimento cheese (by far the best thing we ate), fried okra (pretty tasty), burrata (really good and got better the longer it sat and soaked up the balsamic and tomato flavors), hush puppies (way over fried and just not very good; being Southerners we understand hush puppies and these were not up to par) and the gnocchi (bland; definitely would not recommend). The snake oil drink is fabulous, but ridiculously overpriced at $16. We waited I'd say at least half an hour for the beignets. What a waste. They were so bad. No flavor and the "lemon glaze" was non existent. The menu said pistachios, but it turned out to be fried dough with some chopped peanuts on top. I wouldn't waste my time and money on this place, although the atmosphere is unique and interesting.
From the $2 shots upstairs, to our server Ky who was perfect, to the shrimp and grits and the world's most AMAZING steak, and binets?!? We were on cloud nine. Romantic, fun, sexy atmosphere, great ambiance, drinks, clean, cool bathroom. Our bill with tip was $140 and we splurged on everything, including multiple drinks! COMPLETELY WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!! If you want to impress someone, this is the secret place!
Took the hubby out for his birthday. I wanted a romantic and unusual place that he'd never been to before. The lighting is dim, but not too dim, the ambiance is romantic, the service was fantastic (attentive but not over bearing and had great descriptions and suggestions), and the food was delightfully delicious (so were the drinks!). I definitely recommend The Rest and we'll be coming back again.
