About
The $40 steak was more fat then meat, fish and chips left alot to be desired. The wine list was extremely limited. We were stuck up in the upper dining room with a few very pretentious diners. The whole experience was terrible, will never return.
Excellent overall - consistently delicious food and plenty of options for the traditional or picky diner. The service is outstanding - and the ambiance is fine - nothing fancy, but well designed and comfortable
Food and service was a pleasure, as always.
Love, love The Red Onion! Great food, nice service, priced well for the quality they deliver, handsome warm ambiance. Been a regular for years and will continue to be! Keep it going!
Ashley was a horrible server. Rushed us. Not friendly at all! I like Red Onion but not this server! Food ok but had my last bite and entrees came. I specifically asked for 10 minutes between. It was not busy. She blamed the cook instead of taking responsibility for her mistake.
Super casual family friendly restaurant next to the Woodstock Playhouse and right outside of Woodstock proper - lots of options - pizza was delicious - little kids can't make that much noise because it's pretty noisy but warm and friendly. Some type of food for everyone.
Cool and classy...one of our favorites in the Hudson Valley!
The Red Onion is always a favorite! The food is outstanding, along with the service. The beer on draft was great, but we would have preferred more of a selection (there were only 2). We ate outside on the front porch, which was perfectly quiet. Inside tends to be a bit noisy as their patrons are having such fun dining on their cuisine! Bravo!
I have come to this wonderful restaurant for many years and have greatly enjoyed myself every time. Management and staff are outstanding.
Very good food. Acoustics not suitable for a quiet romantic meal. Not sure there’s much they can do about that though. Would definitely recommend!
We went on Sat for our granddaughter and her boyfriend. Little chaotic on SAt but great food and service.
Awesome...as always. Love Oyster night! I should have take a photo of the plate!
Had great dinners and great service ... we will definitely return!
Consistently great food and service.
The food at Red Onion is absolutely delicious. The server kindly addressed my food allergy restrictions and my questions about the cocktails. She even suggested one not on the menu that was absolutely delicious. I ended up getting the thai curry. I didn't know someone could improve on curry, but the restaurant did. I added the shrimp, which was very fresh and delicious. If you are in the area, you need to stop by the Red Onion.
As always a great experience. Great menu and selection Thanks to all
The best restaurant in the Hudson valley. Exceptional menu with preparation that exceeds your expectations. Needless to say my favorite restaurant.
We had the mussels and they were delicious~! Our waitstaff was outstanding~! Perfect meal for our last minute decision to go out on a Monday night. Can't wait to go back.
I asked our waiter to recommend a dish, between two options. He recommended a dish that had softshell crab, but once it came, the delicate crab taste was overpowered by caviar, creating an overly briny mess. It seems that he did not actually taste the dish beforehand, and if he had, it seems logicial that he would have mentioned the briny taste. When I ordered it, he did not mention that it had fish roe in it, and the fish roe was not identified as such in the description (there was an Italian name beginning with a "b" that apparently is a synonym for fish roe, which was listed, but there was no way to know what this was). He did bring me another dish quickly, no questions asked, though. Again, the service was friendly, but it felt rushed, and that the waiter had too many tables to really be anticipating our needs. He wasn't up on the liqueurs that were 86'd, and had to return from the bar to say that they were out of something my husband ordered. Again, no complete gaffes, It just felt like clumsy and a bit clueless service. With these prices, you expect a higher level of service.
We had a delightful visit to the Red Onion. Great oysters, entrees and drinks. Ambiance is perfect. Well worth a visit anytime
Red Onion is serves food you cannot find anywhere else! The fresh sardines are amazing and the trout salad is hefty and luscious.Wednesday $1 oyster night should not be missed!
Ordering one of each course ( appetizer, salad, main course & dessert), and sharing each course was more than enough food for two of us.
Excellent in every respect except that when it is crowded the noise level from everyone talking in the room makes it quite difficult to carry on a conversation. It would be best to sit outside on the porch.
We don't usually go to Red Onion on Wine Tuesdays, so it was a treat to share a bottle of Pouilly-Fumé at a 30% discount. We had such generous starters (house-cured sardines, smoked trout salad) and entrées (classic steamed mussels, linguini with clams) that we passed on dessert. Service was impeccable, as it usually is.
We came here about 8 years ago. It was still as good and memorable as before .
the food consistantly lovely ...creative...and tastfully presented.,
We enjoyed sitting on the porch. Same good food and service. Less noise.
A terrific dining experience from start to finish.
Perfect on every level.
We are locals and this is our favorite restaurant for year round quality and value
Excellent seasonal & local menu, well presented delicious food, excellent service, great wine pairings, casual old house setting and one of my favorites for special occasions. We arrived early and our table was ready.
I always have a delicious meal at the red onion ! Service is always great!
Nice spot. It's definitely an institution, and worth checking out, but there's not a lot of innovation on the menu. The food is definitely properly executed but it's like a factory - not a lot of risk taking or use of seasonal ingredients, or pairing food in an interesting way. They play it safe which combined with aesthetic can date the place and make it a spot you'd recommend to your grandparents.
Excellent service and the menu selection was outstanding. The food and drink lived up to the menu. I highly recommend this spot if you are in the Woodstock NY area! I will be coming back as a repeat customer
Loved our last minute Mother's Day lunch at the Red Onion. Service was fast and friendly, our entrees were delicious, and my wife claims the tiramisu was best ever!
This is our favorite restaurant and the monkfish was outstanding
We celebrated a birthday here. The service was friendly yet highly professional, and we're still talking about how remarkably delicious the food was. This has become my favorite restaurant in the Woodstock area. So glad we had the chance to visit again. We'll be back!
Awesome as usual
I always recommend The Red Onion, because it's the best restaurant in the area. The food is fantastic, excellent wine selections and drinks, great atmosphere for a special night out. We've been going there for years, and it actually just keeps getting better.
Always good. Food great. Service great.
