The Preserve Kitchen + Bar - Travaasa Hana
food is good but small portions. super pricey even by big city (SF, NY) standards. A piece of fish with some sauce on a plate is $45. But dining options are limited in Hana so they can get away with these prices.
Salads were nothing special, apps and entrees were small but adequate. Gnocchi was delish and quite spicy. Lava cake was meh; no worth price.
surpsingly not memorable at all. Located in a so called a highend resort (with cottages not remodeled since the 60's, and lacking basic toiletries) the restaurant is the same... amazing location but lacks attention to detail. Basic serving spoons not supplied with dishes, large greasy portions expected on the mainland (like Dennys). Overall not refined or exciting. Property needs a new general manager, new food and beverages manager and a new chef. Sorry, it was a waste of money. I would have had a better meal visiting a local street side hut.
Very good meal! The burger was killer. Live music was fun, lava cake with coconut ice cream was also really good.
food and service were very good. Very pricey, but worth it. New chef is great and we had the best Taco (octopus) I have ever had there. great ambiance!
The locally sourced menu is varied and our dishes well prepared. The resort restaurant is clean & beautiful, our waitress excellent - finest dining in Hana!
We had lunch and the choices were limited but the food was very good. We were there on a Saturday and was surprised there were only 2 wait staff. The setting is very beautiful. Had made the drive to Hana about 4 times but never had lunch before. Was a good choice.
Anniversary weekend in Hāna. Beautiful setting. Menu isn’t extensive but my chicken was fantastic. My husband’s crispy beef was good but dry. We would try it again!
setting was exquisite - disappointed that our reservation made well in advance for a special celebration was not recognized by staff - ingredients and presentation were very good - our fresh fish was dry/overcooked -
First of all, it’s the only good restaurant in Hana. A little pricey, but it’s Maui and everything is pricey. Beautiful views, quiet and the server was very attentive. My wife had the filet and it was cooked perfectly. I had the fish with sweet potato hash, rice and curry which was a little spicy (which I love) and a great combination of flavors. Ate there for breakfast a couple of days later and I would definitely recommend the shrimp and grits. They were awesome!
The setting overlooking the ocean is fabulous. We had an octopus appetizer. The octopus was very tender and the sauce was savory. My husband had the filet mignon. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare. I had a pork dish of pork cutlets covered with capers and onions and an amazing sauce. It was a big portion with 3 cutlets. For desert we shared a key lime tart. It was not my favorite. It was too dry.
The setting is beautiful. The bartender and hostess were awesome.
The food was good, but not worth the prices.
Dinner service seemed very slow.
Wonderful place to enjoy dinner while in Hana. They have a really diverse menu that features lots of local ingredients. Recommend going a little before sunset!
Best dinner of our trip. Totally exquisite menu—so hard to choose. We had the ribeye, the curry with mahi mahi and the blackened mahi dinner. The pohole fern and mushrooms in the curry were amazing.
Slow service, undermanned kitchen. Took over an hr and breakfast cast hundred bucks with mimosas
Great food and drinks! Had the avocado burrata which was delicious. Local fish was excellent as well. Definitely recommend if looking for a nice, relatively fancy meal in Hana. A bit pricey for the portion size. Not quite good as Mama's Fish House, but definitely up there.
Great dinner place in Hana. Lovely view and so tranquil
Fresh ingredients, but food was under seasoned and under prepared. For example, the fish sandwich is dry without any sauce, but the fresh avocado helped it out somewhat. Great view!
Lovely! There was live Hawaiian music and two dancers in the bar area and patio which was packed with people. We were seated on the lanai of the dining area, just far enough away to enjoy the music without the noise of the crowd. And the food was fresh and delicious, the service great and the sunset spectacular!
Restaurant could be really nice, but the service is extremely poor.
Unique menu and choices including cocktails. Our server was excellent and knew the entire me u well. Nice guitarist playing also.
Gorgeous views and a quiet dining room. Our server was attentive and the food was good. For the price, one might expect slightly nicer finishes (ie. dishware, garnishes, etc), but we would definitely go back again for a future meal.
We liked this place so much we went two nights in a row. The first it was already close to dark, so we made sure to get there in the light the next night to enjoy the view of the water. Our server was great (Jay I think his name was) - he made the evening fun and the food was stellar! We would definitely recommend...and if we ever get back to Hana again, we'll make sure to visit again!
The experience was good. Food was of average quality. My only issue was with the reservation system. We arrived 15 minutes before time only to find out they close for a short time right at our reserved time. Open table and PK need to be on the same page. But to PK credit we were seated and served.
We had a lovely meal at the Preserve. Our server Jay was delightful- attentive, welcoming and friendly but not overbearing. Would certainly recommend the place.
Warm, attentive service. Lovely outdoor setting and good food.
Although we had a reservation, we waited 30 minutes for our table. The hostess was quite apologetic, but I’m pretty sure they have the people in front of us the outdoor table we had requested. The crispy brussel spouts were excellent, but the steaks were not very good and the mixed drinks were very weak. Our waiter was wonderful!
Chef Erin and Server Jay went out of their way to make our meal very memorable. Excellent service and incredible views from the main dining room.
We had a very nice time- our waiter was excellent and the food was really good too- not the best I've had in Maui, but we would definitely come back when visiting Hana. I had the Shrimp Scampi which was really good and my son had the Burger which h he also enjoyed. The view was fantastic and the passion fruit margarita delicious!
We were there for our anniversary. They didn’t give us anything special, but we did have a great seat on the patio/lanai, and our waiter Styles was great!
The food had some issues, but Styles fixed it all for us.
Good food: burger
Good drink: mai tai
Food with issues: garlic shrimp app was rubbery and caprese salad was inedible, with a huge hard avocado that I couldn’t even stick my fork in.
I told Styles our waiter the issue and ordered different items. They were much better!
Good food I ordered on second try: chicken wings and the sweet potato mashers. These were really sweet but good. Purple in color- reminded me of taro bubble tea flavor!
Overall, the atmosphere and service is lovely. Worth a stop in Hana, just be careful what you order and tell them if you need something fixed because they are great and want you to have a good experience!
This restaurant is THE place to dine when in Hana (and in my opinionwhen in Maui). The view is spectaculair, the service is perfect without being stiff and the food is just amazing.
This restaurant does not honor its OpenTable reservations. When I arrived exactly on time, the hostess said the main dining room was full and there would be a 45 minute wait. When I expressed concern, we were shown a table in the back corner of the bar next to the trash cans. So we took our seat there. Service was slow and drinks were not promptly refilled. On top of all this (sitting in a dark corner next to trash cans), we were billed $15 for a well drink and $23 for a burger.
Avocado toast was one of the best breakfasts of our trip!
My ahi sashimi was fantastic, but my wife’s grilled Mahi was raw and cold in the middle like it had come out of the freezer. Our waiter was distracted and gone for long periods of time. Expensive for the experience
We made some good choices on the menu, thanks to having read other reviews of The Preserve’s offerings online. The first night we ordered the garlic shrimp appetizer, which was very good. Two of us had the roasted Mahi Mahi, perfectly cooked, which came with really good eggplant and a red curry sauce on jasmine rice. The second evening we had the crispy beef, which was also delicious. So was the Ahi tuna sashimi. We were staying at the hotel, which meant that we got a very nice table both nights.
That said, these were not inexpensive meals. In fact I thought that $30 for a single malt whiskey was outrageous, especially since the waiter did not warn me. (The price of the whiskeys was not on the menu.) The service was quite slow. At the bar the second evening, which was a Wednesday evening with live music, the two bartenders were very overwhelmed and apologized for the delay, but neither of the waiters in the dining room, however nice they were, seemed troubled by how long it took to get us our food.
Perhaps they are used to this, but the chef needs to speed things up...
Wine prices a bit expensive. Food was good though not great. Nice setting overlooking the ocean and hotel grounds.
This was the restaurant at our resort, Travis’s Hana, which is the heart of this lovely remote Maui community. The restaurant and the resort are really giving their all, marrying sophistication with the aloha spirit. We ate all our meals at this place and the service and quality of food are first class. Special recommendation. Tempura fish and Crispy Brussels Sprouts from the starters (pupu) category. I’m still thinking about them. Friendly friendly and fast service.
The bar is terrific, food is good, but the service was poor. We had a 7:30 pm reservation and our entrees did not arrive until 8:20 and then the meat/fish were on the wrong salads! We wondered if it was anti-gay discrimination?
