The Plumed Horse
Chef’s tasting menu and paired wines; delicious meal with attentive, but not irritating, staff. They made my Mother’s birthday a lovely celebration.
Impressive and well worth a visit. Service was really good, especially the sommelier. We were two couples, and the men and women had different tasting menus going so we all tried many different dishes .Food was uniformly excellent, imaginative without being overly complicated, nicely presented and very high quality. Great wine list.
For a place performing at this level it’s hard to find anything to complain about, but I’ll nitpick a little bit:
Regarding service, the servers had a silly affectation of adding the word “do” when they set down a dish, e.g. “Here we DO have the seared pork tenderloin with cherries” - it made them all sound a bit silly and they need to drop that.
Regarding the food itself, it was all very impressive and delicious with the notable exception of the low poached salmon, which was beautifully rare but due to the long cooking time had no body left and had developed a stodgy or gluey texture.
Finally, the dessert service was OK but nothing special at all, it seemed like an afterthought.
Great Service as always!
The food was too salty and bland.
We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary! And we had our toddler with us! And we were vegetarians! Lets start by saying that the wait staff and service was awesome!! But that’s about it! We have been here plenty of times and the food (vegetarian tasting menu)has always been exemplary!! But this time, it was a total miss! Except the soufle (which we paid extra for) and pasta, everything was raw, gooey and tasteless! Broccoli fritter ls were raw inside and barley porridge with raw egg yolk (or atleast it seemed raw) made me want to puke! I ordered simple cheese pasta for my son- what came out was undercooked pasta floating in salt water)! I used to be really excited about going here but maybe this was my last time! There are plenty of other good Michelin star places that accommodate vegetarians and put out really good food! This aint one of them...
What a great experience! Went Valentine's weekend but not on actual Vday which is a good thing. Regular tasting menu with the caviar and souffle supplements. The food was beautiful and delicious and such a memorable experience. The service is good and everyone is friendly. Doesn't feel too fancy but still elegant. The wine cellar is sooooo cool. The bar is great to enjoy before you're seated. We followed Chef Armellino from his pasta across the street to the plumed horse and both are noteworthy! Definitely looking to come back and try the a la carte menu next.
This was a perfect splurge night out for a birthday celebration. The ambiance was very nice. It is a warm restaurant, if a bit on the noisy side. The overall feel was perfect for a romantic date.
The food was all amazing. We had the chef's tasting menu. The souffle was to die for. And the duck breast was a close second as to the favorite.
We started in the bar for a cocktail. The bar staff could have been warmer and more conversational, but that is a small quibble.
Tableside experience was perfect, eith our servers enthusiastic, thoughtful, and warm without being intrusive. Each course was well-placed, filling. And delicious. I look forward to returning.
The food is good but the value isn't there given the high price. Presentation was good but did not consume anything that would compel me to say "wow".
The food was OK but overpriced. (Two of the dishes are cold and pre-made. All in small portions.)
The service was VERY BAD for a Michelin-star restaurant.
The bar table lady was loud.
Excellent, efficient yet unrushed service. Loved all but two dishes of tasting menu (liked those just didn't love); wine pairings were well chosen. pacing of the meal and low noise level was perfect for a romantic Valentine's evening dinner. Pleasant staff. Will definitely come back. It had been many years since I had eaten there (decades).
Valentine's day menu doesn't match the price at all.
We had an early Valentine’s Day celebration it was wonderful and they accounted for my boyfriends lactose intolerance.
17th Anniversary / Fun
Great time. Fun atmosphere. May be a bit too much food for some in our party. But overall very enjoyable evening
Loved the ambiance and food was delicious. Excellent first time experience wish chef tasting menu. I wouldn’t recommend wine pairing for the value and taste.
we celebrate birthday at Plumed Horse, we really enjoy the food which care in detail of all the ingredients and flavors. but pricy, if consider tasty vs price, the cost is over price but I really like how they make the dishes.
Beautiful place. Excellent service. Food choices minimal. Preparation fair. Overpriced
We had the vegetarian tasting menu. The first 5 courses were outstanding but a bit big for a tasting menu, so by the end we were too full to finish. I did not particularly care for the last plate, the lasagna, it was cold and the truffles were overpowering. The squash filling was a bit sweet too for a main course. The service was good but not outstanding as it should be in a Michelin starred restaurant. The staff was confused about what course was coming next and did not place the silverware appropriately. Also a couple of times the silverware was placed on the wrong side!
I think they still need to work on all of these details in order to keep their star.
Did truffle tasting menu + caviar. Amazing meal. So delicious. We will be back.
Fantastic food and impeccable service. A wonderful experience.
It felt luxurious
Magnificent food, amazing service!
Overall the experience was great. We did the Vegetarian tasting menu and the food was delicious. The only thing that reduced an awesome experience was paying 40$ for a glass of not so good rose champaign. I get its a Michellin star restaurant and they are expensive but Champaign can't cost that much.! I mean its more expensive than the fancy fancy food.
But yes would still recommend it to a friend and tell them not to get the champaign.
Food not great.... meat needed salt, everything just ok not extraordinary...
Fantastic! At one Michelin star it is underrated. The parmesan black pepper souffle (with uni and crab fondue) is one of the best foods on the planet. Definitely our favorite in the south bay.
The lighting drove me and my party mildly insane. It really detracts from the experience
Service was impeccable...appetizers were amazing...entrees were good but for the price we expected more.
Didn’t expect that their service quality was so bad. Trying to charge you as high as they can but the food and drink quality is getting worse. I wouldn’t recommend anyone come
Lovely ambience. Cheese soufflé was outstanding as well as the lobster risotto. Service impeccable.
Had my birthday dinner here, the food was great and service even better! Was lucky enough to got the private room looking into the kitchen.
We were able to try two different tasting menu for our table and they were both wonderful.
The only thing we think they could improve on is the cadence between the courses should be cut in half. Overall very happy with the food and the service.
Absolutely excellent. Rare wine pairing was out of this world.
We were quite surprised when we arrived that it was a Tasting Menu only, as this was not mentioned on the website. I thought the price of $265 per person (excluding wine), was quite high. They also "forgot" apparently to serve us one of the courses.
Jeff (sommelier) has great wine guidance. recommend that strongly especially if you want to try a new varietal or a new region. Service was awesome. Josh is always at the top of his game.
Dinner for a special occasion. I enjoyed the service and the food very much.
The food was not bad but 2 people with tax and tip we ended up to pay $620. Not worth, and some the explanation in prices were not clear.
Amazing evening. Recommend the chefs table with the chefs tasting.
Bay area fine dining at its best. In a beautiful location, this experience is second to none. The pre fix menu was incredible. Presentation and portion size make it possible to get to the very end and still not want to die from being too stuffed. Dont forget to ask for a tour of the wine cellar, its something special as well.
Ill be back, thanks for the great experience Plumed Horse!
The Plumed Horse has long been my favorite Special Occasion restaurant. When my husband was alive he often took me there for my birthday and our anniversary. Everything about it is superior. I was wanting to take some special friends out to dinner so, of course, I chose the Plumed Horse! As always it was everything I could have wanted. I will continue to look for reasons to go back!
