The Pirates' House

The entire family is sure to enjoy Savannah's most intriguing & historic restaurant. At the Pirates' House, our most precious treasure is the food. Situated in Trustees Garden, merely a scant block from the Savannah River, the Famous Pirates' House is the most historic spot in Georgia. The Herb House, erected in 1734, located inside the Pirates' House, is said to be the oldest house in Georgia. The Pirates' House first opened in 1753 as an inn for seafarers and fast became a meeting point for blood-thirsty pirates & sailors. Enthusiastically recommended by AAA, Food & Wine and Redbook.

I was not impressed with the food. The tilapia has no seasoning and the baby back ribs was just full of sause. The chicken was southern fried so that wasnt bad. The shrimp and grits was mushy and the sause tasted as if it was settled. (We arrived at 6 PM) The She Crab Soup was decent at best. I was not impressed with the food and its not on my "must go" list. We received our entrée before our appetizers which defeats the purpose of ordering appetizers in the first place. All of that being said the atmosphere was nice in that it was family oriented. Our server was nice. But there was nothing that made me feel like it was worth the money I spent.

Not worth it. Nothing fun for kids, no pirates, no artifacts, just mediocre food. HUGE disappointment. Our only day in Savannah and we wasted the food opportunity here. Our server was great though.

I’m not being hyperbolic when I say this was the worst meal of my life. For the amount of money that an app and two entrees cost you could go to husk or olde pink house and have a much higher quality meal. The seafood was rubbery and bland and disgusting.

Our waiter acted irritated we didn’t order any alcoholic drinks. The salads were good, but small. The food was very subpar and overpriced. I’d never recommend this place.

We read the reviews about The Pirate House being a "must" when you visit Savannah. We certainly echo that statement. The food, service, & price were all exceptional. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.

I was very disappointed at our trip to the restaurant this time. The seafood platter had tilapia as the fish! What decent place KNOWN for great seafood serves FAKE, non-ocean fish?? Pretty bad experience with the food this time. It’s sad. Don’t know that we’ll be back again.

This place is definitely a must try, I think more so for the atmosphere and aura. It’s a very old historic building and the restaurant itself is beautiful. The fried green tomatoes were excellent, the drinks were fun! The food service felt slightly rushed, everything came out extremely fast. I would come back again to appreciate the building and for drinks and apps!

They need to close the small room off for 3 small tables. Such awkward silence and we were all sat way too close. One person stopped speaking and it would be uncomfortable for everyone. We were sat at a table that dripped water down on my date consistently. The food tasted like it came out of a can too.

I reserved a table for 8 a few weeks in advance through Open Table. We arrived and waited approximately 25 minutes, just to have our party split up between two separate tables because they didn’t have one that could seat our party. Otherwise, overpriced food but fun for the kids and good cocktails.

I've been here a few times over the years. Originally, I visited because of the novelty of the location's history and low expectations for food and service. I return and recommend the restaurant because it really does have great food and excellent service!

Took the server 10 mins just to come to our table initially. When we asked a question he went off to find the answer and didn’t return for another 10 mins. Very slow and lackluster service. The menu didn’t include basic things you would expect at a family friendly tourist seafood spot (like fish and chips, hello?!) and while the kids menu included a cheeseburger they wouldn’t make one for an adult in our group. Rather off putting. To top it off, there was a hair on my child’s plate that definitely wasn’t hers. Won’t be back!

The restaurant was great. An actual house from the 1700's. Menu has some great items. The crab dip app was terrific! Blackened snapper was good but the collard greens were overly seasoned with something that made them taste odd. Grit cake was ok. Rum Manhattan was small on rd 1 but large on rd 2.

I almost cancelled my reservation after reading some negative review, very glad I didn’t. The food was amazing. I had the tilapia, mashed potatoes and veggies. It was delicious. My wife ordered the pecan fried chicken. It too was delicious. Just a heads up if you order the chicken, you get 4 pieces, so it’s a lot to eat. Our server was Tom and he did an outstanding job. Of course being in an old pirate tavern made it even better. Highly recommend.
