The Pirates' House

My husband and I and our two children (ages 13 & 4) had an early Sunday lunch here. My 13 yr old and I had the buffet. Most items were delicious, but we each had an item on our plate we didn't care for (his was a jambalaya style rice and mine was mashed potatoes). My husband had the gumbo w/shrimp and seemed to like it. My youngest had a hot dog and French fries. I didn't try the hotdog, but the fries were very good. The waiter was nice and friendly and gave us some tidbits of historical knowledge about the Pirate House. Afterward, we took a quick 15 minute tour with their Pirate tour guide. She was also very nice and funny, while still also very knowledgeable about the Pirate House history. All in all, we enjoyed the experience. $14.99/ea seemed fair for the all you can eat buffet which came with a choice pie for dessert. They were very small pieces, but pie is pie, so... it counts. One more thing, the children's menu punches out and yields a pirate hat, moustache, earring, and pirate coins. SUPER CUTE! They also had a nice, reasonably priced gift shop upstairs. Overall, I would definitely recommend eating here. Make sure you get reservations in advance, esp if you're planning to dine at night.
I struggle with this review. The service at the Pirate's House was amazing. The staff - either in character or not, were responsive to questions or asks and even when I had issues with my food. And that is the issue - the food. For the prices, the food is very pedestrian and flavorless. I ordered the shrimp creole and it was basically a can of tomatoes and shrimp. No spices, no flavor and the shrimp seemed off tasting. My wife ordered the chicken jambalaya which was mostly good. I ended up sending my entree back and we shared hers - until I bit into something that tasted horribly spoiled. At this point, I felt like it was a waste to send it back. We were done eating. It was my wife's birthday and they did give her cake and sang to her. But odd thing, I added that to our OpenTable reservation and it wasn't communicated to our waiter.
Overall, it was a nice night. The restaurant is fun and a bit haunted. I guess we chose poorly on our entrees.
I ate with several others and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had grilled shrimp and crab cake. The crab cake was good but the shrimp were overcooked. Otherwise, it was a good meal.
Food was good. Shrimp and grits were the best I’ve eaten. The crab dip had too much horseradish in it for our liking. The staff was wonderful
Fun atmosphere great food and excellent service. Would recommend for family or history buff.
Food was over cooked twice. Server was inattentive
Excellent service by staff who went out of the way to keep my infant daughter engaged. Staff was also very attentive to our needs and ensured our needs were met promptly.
Pirate tour was excelkent, as was the food & service
Great place to take a 4-year-old boy with even a “real pirate” walking around and talking to people. Great recommendations by the server.
We were visiting Savannah on vacation and saw it
It was very good, service food and atmosphere was perfect
Great food and lots of fun!
You can't beat dining in an authentic pirates' house! The atmosphere is great, the food is terrific, and the service is personable. They even have pirates who give tours. Check out their awesome pirate gift shop upstairs.
good food at a good price with great service I will definitely go there next time I am in Savannah
I know it's a famouse and popular restaurant and there shall be always a lot of customers. But they need to pay more attention to the ambiance and services. The table we were guided was wobbling, and the other table we moved was stinky and not clened up well.
We really enjoyed our dinner! Got seated right on time with our reservation. All the kids around us were very happy and staff was great with them.
Cute place to go. Loved reading the history before our visit. My daughter loved her shrimp and fries, but we adults were not impressed with the food from the regular menu. (Wasn't asked about it or I would have told the staff and ordered something else.) Next time in Savannah we will try the buffet there. It looked way better when I finally got to check it out on the way out of the house. The Pirate tour inside was great, though, and our guide Elizabeth was hilarious and good with my child. The gift shop is a lot of fun too.
We had Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet and it was ok. Food was mediocre. It was a lot of money. We spent $130 for 2 adults and 1 child to have the buffet and soft drinks.
Thank you for helping me to not have to do the DISHES!
The " Grand Buffett" was more than what I expected.
Okay maybe some thing just Chocalate on the Desert Table.
Thanksgiving Day Feast
For a foodie, it was just average tasting. Great people and service, though.
Had a wonderful time, the food was exceptional, James the server was pleasant and attentive to our requests. The ambiance was fun festive and extremely enjoyable. Would recommend anything on the menu.
Received recommendation from camper on Tybee Island. Was definitely worth the drive in. Seated immediately for our reservation. Hubby was extremely satisfied with the buffet and dessert. I truly enjoyed the snapper. The live pirate was a kick and full of historical data
A great visit whenever we visit Savannah😊 Amazing food and service must try the delicious fried chicken to die for!
If I am in the area I make it a priority to visit. Great food and service and the gift shop always has so unique gifts for everyone.
A fun place with children along. Food was okay, nothing special, but the atmosphere was wonderful. The "tour" given by a pirate, was really fun. The kids were spellbound!
We love the food. The service was great. I love the history of The pirates house. We’ll definitely come back when we visit Savannah again. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Always our first stop when we arrive in town! The food is always amazing, service excellent, and what a beautiful historic setting!
This place is just mediocre... I don’t have a need or desire to visit again.
Enjoyed our time at Pirates House. Food was great, service was very good and enjoyed seeing the historic locations throughout the house. Will certainly return.
Great server, but felt very rushed. Food from appetizers, soup, main came out so quickly there was not time to digest and relax.
285 year old Pirate Tavern!! Great place! Great food! Reasonable price. Great server who shared his knowledge on the history of this location. Great experience.
Out for Christmas Made in the South
Super tour and knowledge of the house
Would definitely go there again
The food was just ok. The sides were way better than the fish and chicken.
Terry, our waiter was very friendly. Had a few stories to tell. Food was excellent.
I'm from Savannah but live in New Mexico. I ate here in the 60s and 70s as a child. The food just keeps getting better. The PH has always been a special place for me. Food just gets better and better!
Historic, hospitable and great food! Must visit when in Savannah.
Visiting from out of town. The food was great and the ambiance is very historic.
We came in for dinner after a show downtown. We were actually a little early but they seated us right away. The food is delicious and the service is outstanding!!
