I visited the Oxford for brunch about 2 years ago and have raved about it every since. Unfortunately I just had not had the time to make it back until recently. I was so excited to go, but left somewhat disappointed. While the service was great and the food was good...it was not as AMAZING as I had remembered. I'm not sure what may have caused the change, but maybe I'll try lunch there next and see if it is any better??
Imagine Arriving at a restaurant and being seated immediately and then being ignored. Imagine a server finally coming to deliver water, and ignoring any other request. All because when you sat down you asked for a moment before ordering a drink. Now imagine watching the other servers all handling one table at a time, and ignoring others as they moved around. I chose the Oxford because it sounded like a nice place for a date. It wasn't and I wouldn't ever be back. The food was horrible and they ran out of the only fish item which is what I had ordered to begin with. Imagine what my review would have been if I had not waited a week to write it.
We had an enjoyable dinner with an attentive waiter. I had written in my notes that we had to eat quickly to get to the Christmas Carol play in time and every effort was made to have us out in plenty of time. We even got a 10% discount off of our tickect. Will go again, though this was not our first visit here.
I booked the Oxford same day and ended up having six additional guests (16 total) and they were very accomidating. The apetizers were the highlight of the meal and the warm pamento cheese starter was great!
Service was exemplary and the menu was fun and had something for everyone.
The British food was not authentic as our two party members from the UK pointed out, but was still good.
Can't wait to try them for lunch.
THE HEN WAS SO TOUGH WE COULDN'T CUT IT WITH A KNIFE(BUTTER KNIFE I MIGHT AD), THE CABBAGE WAS COLD, MAYBE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE? THE SALAD KALE WAS TOUGH, HAD A HARD TIME CHEWING IT. THIS WAS THE WORST MEAL WE HAVE EXPERIENCED IN RALEIGH.
We've eaten here several times before attending NC Symphony concerts. It is a convenient walking distance to the concert hall. We've always gone early, and there has never been a problem getting a table. That likely changes later in the evening. The vibe is warm and friendly, the wait staff are attentive to time, and the food is good English Pub food. I've had the shepherd's pie twice, and it really hits the spot, particularly on a chilly night. The cost is very reasonable: two dinners, two desserts, two glasses of wine and tip all for under $70.00. There are several booths, which provide privacy for 4-6 people. There are also several TVs, thereby providing a sports bar option. Each time we've been there have been tables set up for larger parties (e.g. 15-20).

if a person can find anywhere to park (due to raleigh's incessant blocking of streets to accomodate high polluting food trucks) this venue will reward your taste buds

Having been there before -we ordered the best thing on the menu, and best red wine.
That made it a good meal for us. The service was interruptive, the decor, red and black AND more black was oppressive for a 7PM dinner. It must be fine for the under 30 late night crowd.
We tried The Oxford for Restaurant Week and weren't disappointed! We enjoyed chatting with our server about food and wine. The menu was unusual and we didn't know what to choose, but the server was very helpful and we had a great time. We would go back again, and would recommend it to other people!
Generous servings. The chef was very accommodating to the people with various allergies in our group (celiac and mushrooms). Menu was labeled with Gluten Free and vegetarian options but the chef was able to modify something on the menu so it could be gluten free for us. Comfortable and spacious. Our waiter was wonderful...very attentive but not intrusive. The bar was on the noisy side....we were there with teenage kids....we were able to talk comfortably but there was a noisy background from the bar. Both teenagers said they wanted to return when they were drinking age to join that noisy (happy) bar scene!
The restaurant was dark requiring a flashlight to read the menu. It was restaurant week so the prefix menu was ordered. It was a good menu. A rude server brought the 1st course appetizers and the 2nd course entrée all at once to our table. Our waitress told us they were serving this way during restaurant week.
It was a poor way to serve because the entrée was cold by the time we finished the appetizer. It seemed obvious they wanted to quickly turn over the tables.
It was hard to judge the entrée because it was cold and not enjoyable.
Good customer service seems to be lacking during restaurant week
Our late lunch - at 4 pm - was outstanding. Very few other patrons (quiet) and attentive staff. I hope The Oxford will participate in the next Triangle Restaurant Week.
The food is consistantly prepared well with a variety that ensures everyone will find something to their liking. The service has never let us down. Nearly every time we have been approached by the manager and asked how was our dining experience, not just the food but the experience. Attention to detail, consistantly GOOD food, great jazz playing and a fantastic wait staff. Enjoy, but please, let's keep it quiet so it stays like it is.
Taylor, our server, was fantastic! When she found out we were celebrating our anniversary, the restaurant treated us to a glass of champagne.

I should preface my review by saying I'm from Chicago and we have some
I'm f the best restaurants in the world. With that being said I don't expect other cities to exceed the Chicago standard. I think I'm fair. As for the good: the atmosphere was authentic pub-like. The fried calamari was delicious- hot crisp, not greasy or rubbery. The fish in the " fish and chips" was excellent, very similar to that I've had traveling in England. The chips however were Luke warm French fries. Two people on our party ordered sandwiches-a Ruben and a turkey club. Both were very good and served with homemade potatoe chips that were delicious, fresh crisp and seasoned well. Our waitress was lovely as was the chef who came out to speak to us after a few snafus.
For the bad: the pot pie was average. Good flavor but soupy, few vegetables or potatoes. They were out of the dessert we chose. They mistakenly sent out a different dessert with an allergen after having told explicitly about the severe allergy. The peach tart was just bad. Very artificial tasting and soggy. The chocolate mousse/snore however was great.
Overall it served our purpose-we could get reservations for a party of six on Saturday night with two days notice. It was good, but not great. Hats off to the staff however- all wonderful.
This was our first time to The Oxford. Our party of 3 found the reception friendly and our seating was fine. Overall the food was fine but not on a par with other Sunday brunch options. The value, made it a decent choice as the price is lower than competing buffets. The omelet was good and the item selections were fine though not very imaginative. The best item could have been the oxtail though it was a bit bland and could use some more seasoning or wine in the preparation. The worst item was the fried chicken which was dry and non-edible. We did report this to the restaurant at the time. The best thing one of my party had was the key lime pie, included in the price.
While the breakfast was fine, the disappointments took away from what could have been a very good brunch. The one bright spot overall was our server who was cheerful and attentive.
Not sure if we will return.
We went for brunch, the food was excellent! I booked the reservation & noted that we were celebrating a birthday, they never acknowledged that we were there for an occasion. It just would've been a nice gesture, wasn't looking for some kind of celebration.
When I saw that the omelet station had mushrooms I thought I would have to skip that area., since I have an allergy. The omelet station chef came to my table and we discussed an option so I could have an omelet without worry. He went out of his way to protect me while still providing an excellent omelet. He is very knowledgeable and well-trained about food service.
Came to get a pre-show meal. Once past the entrance way, fairly open and boxy area for dining with a large bar to one side. From 6 to 7 on a Friday night, there was not much happening on the dinner side, but quite a few people at the bar. The house salad was beautifully presented and delicious, though a little heavy on the greens for my liking. Generous portion of halibut nicely cooked for my spouse and the gnocchi with grilled chicken was light and tasty and just what I wanted that night. The dessert menu was impressive and the Fromage -- coconut cheesecake -- and S'mores Cup were big hits. Service was good and the young lady very friendly. Overall, a pleasant experience.
We came here for dinner on a Monday night early, and it was delightfully quiet and the decor is wonderful! Our server was very professional and attentive as well! But the real bonus was for my husband who discovered he has a gluten allergy over a year ago.... He has always loved English food and he pretty much gave up on ever having Bangers & Mash because the few places we have researched always had gluten in their bangers.... but not at the Oxford!!! :) You have made not only his day, but much much more - we will definitely be back really really soon! It was super delicious!!! :)
They had a good omelet station and other breakfast items plus Kale salad, fried chicken, and a few other choices. Roast beef was a choice, but when I went through the buffet, they only offered well done meat. My husband liked it better than I did. Doubt we will return.

The chips were the best post of the meal. The rest of the meal was delicious, but the chips and chipotle mayo were a unexpected surprise that would bring us back just by themselves.
I had never had a Pimm's cup before; it was very good. Their whiskey selection was overwhelming, but not overly so. (I'm an amateur whiskey drinker at best.)
The only downsides: parking, the noise level on a Saturday night wasn't "intimate", and there were cold drafts where we were seated.
The dessert menu was limited but impressive: brownie and ice cream (v. good), chocolate mousse s'mores cup, bananas foster on a creme brulee, coconut cheesecake with Hawaiian salsa (incl. Mango), and something involving a lot of peaches.
My friend and I were looking for a comfortable and convenient place to eat before theater at the Duke Energy Center. The Oxford filled the bill. We drove downtown on the early side and were able to find a free parking place on the street in front of the theater. It was a short walk to The Oxford. At this early evening hour, the restaurant was quiet and not very filled. The restaurant has the warm and inviting feel of an English pub; dimly lit and decorated in warm, rich colors. The large bar area looked nice and I believe there is entertainment some evenings. We were handed a wine and beverage menu when we sat down. The wine is on the more expensive side for our area. Our server did not offer any Happy Hour specials and we had to inquire if there were any. We were told that bottles of wine were half price. With this information, we found it more cost effective to order a bottle rather than glasses. We asked if the bottle could be corked with any remaining wine, and we were told that they could do that for us. The menu offered standard UK pub fare dishes. My friend ordered the Shepherds Pie and ate every bite. I had a house salad and enjoyed a cooked to order piece of broiled salmon on top. It was rare as requested, moist and pretty good. Our server was attentive throughout our meal and we had plenty of time to eat before walking to theater.
A bonus point to note: Show your theater ticket to the server and receive 10% off dinner!
This was our second time at The Oxford and we really enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere both times. The dessert, Creme Brulee with the banana, was to die for. We will definitely recommend The Oxford to our friends as a different place to go for dinner. We are looking forward to coming back again and trying some of the other items on the menu.
The buffalo chili was excellent and HOT, in fact, all the food came out very hot which suggest freshness and not sitting under a warmer. The fish (of the fish & chips pair) were slightly on the greasy side, but still very delightful and reminded me of my time in Manchester, UK. Two smaller pieces of fish rather than one larger results in more breading, more oil, still the same great flavor, but finding Manchester-size fresh fish in Raleigh is a challenge. The shepherds pie was delightful - no complaints. Portion size would satisfy the Patriots. My only compliant was the dinky water glasses that had too much ice, so they stayed empty too much of the time. The wait staff had to be reminded to fill them up multiple times.
This was a fun dining experience and just a short walk to the auditorium . The food was excellently prepared and the choices were good. The staff were all extremely friendly beginning with the host as you enter the restaurant. Our waiter was Dan and he was friendly and professional. I advise reservations because it does fill up quickly.
I really enjoyed the food here and loved the atmosphere the food is very good, but it is not out of this world. I did enjoy the drink availability and the location to downtown. This place is definitely worth the stop.
Polenta cake was GREAT. Honey Lavender Margarita was AMAZING. Salmon and Brussels Sprouts was delish and very filling. They were accomodating for my pescetarian friend,We loved our waiter whose name I can't recall, but he had a ponytail and maybe one shaved brow? He was very attentive and lovely. GREAT lunch!!!

The awesome food was well introduced by a knowledgable waiter! The location was perfect to enjoy a musical afterward at the Duke Energy Performing Arts Building. What a fabulous afternoon spent down town!

I had gone to the Oxford several times for brunch but it had been awhile. I have to say that while the food was good there was much less than there used to be. There were no desserts and our server almost forgot to ask us if we wanted any, as apparently they are not put out anymore. I appreciate the very reasonable cost so I guess these are measures to keep the cost what it is. The beef was very tough, but it has always been. They used to have prime rib or something similar, I remember it was tough as well. Perhaps a ham or something else if the meat cuts need to be cheaper. None of this would stop me from going back.
The food was good for a buffet. I only gave 3 stars for service because at a buffet, the server only has to bring you drinks. At a full serve restaurant, I tip 20% if service is very good. For just bringing drinks, I tipped 15% because she was very friendly, but thought about 10%. The omelet station was very good. I asked the guy to not cook it on high because I don't like dark brown omelets and he obliged. The food on the buffet was fresh and tasty. It was an enjoyable experience.
The Oxford is a very nice English style upscale pub with deep warm woods, comfortable chairs and doesn't shy away from kids during dinner hours. They even accommodated a surprise guest and fixed his food quickly so it was out when ours was. The food was very good. The portions fit the price. And the range of options was good. You can either spend a moderate amount or go for broke on special menu options with pricey but yummy ingredients.
I can't say the Oxford has been one of my favorite restaurants. I was impressed with the menu, which is what drew me there. For appetizers, we ordered a mediterranean plate, which was delicious, and we all had a cup of the tomato soup with gorgonzola - very good! I ordered the kale salad with salmon for my meal and was disappointed that the kale was not cooked or sautéed - it was very tough and there was really no theme to the plate. My dad ordered the Manchester Turkey sandwich and he wasn't impressed with it - he didn't even finish it. I don't think there was much taste to it. The bar scene was loud and crowded, making me think its a great happy hour spot. We were eating dinner around 6pm. Overall, it was a fine meal, but nothing to write home about for this foodie.
