The Mooring Restaurant
Friday & Saturday 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM
Only recommendation I have for an improvement is that the restaurant should stop serving bread in paper bags. There’s no need/value for doing that and it’s tremendously inconsiderate of the environment.
Beautiful setting and ok service but food just wasn’t good. A shame because with that location, they should try harder.
Food was good but our waiter broke a glass at our table and we didn't get comped for the inconvenience
Food was great and location ideal. Loved the lobster
Newport Boat Show with our best friends
great scene, well prepared food and very good service
Had an engagement dinner that was amazing. Staff were awesome and atmosphere spectacular! Thank you for making our special day so memorable!
Delicious anniversary dinner with lovely view. Our server John was welcoming and informative. Look forward to visiting again when in Newport.
Serving old classics like clam chowder and creating new ones like scallop chowder, the chef strives for creative spins on standard dishes. The Portuguese Cod was simply delicious! As were the mussels! Nice view in a lovely section of town too.
I like this restaurant group and sitting on the deck here by the boats is really nice. Our sandwiches were all good. However, we were asked by our waitress and by the manager at least six times how we were doing, etc. Too many interruptions. Maybe you could trust people to signal if something is needed. There is a big difference between providing good, attentive service and being annoyingly "there" all the time. Also, when I finished my lunch ahead of the others, a server swooped in to grab my plate - sort of like starting to sweep the floor when you still have diners. And the food was good!
One of the best meals I’ve ever eaten! The ambiance and service were excellent!
Specialty is seafood with a nice menu. Swordfish steak thick, fresh, and cooked right. Portions are good sized. There is an option for outside dining with a nice view of boats/waterfront. Make sure you request this if you want outside dining if making a reservation. Overall food is very good and moderately priced. Restaurant also has a pretty large bar area nicely separated from dining area.
We had a nice time celebrating our anniversary here, although there was a large very loud party that was seated next to us after we were seated. The food was good but not spectacular. My husband got the fish sandwich and I got the seafood pasta. Both were good. We ordered bag of donuts and mussels for appetizers and I would rate as just ok. Nothing amazing. We did not get any items from the raw bar but you could see that was the popular way to go for many of the diners. The hostess and waitress were very friendly and attentive.
My chef's salad was ok, a bit bland- nothing spectacular. Add on of a lobster salad was a good idea. The place is pricey, but that's waterfront Newport, I guess. We regretted our choice of this restaurant after wandering about after dinner to other waterfront spots with more imaginative menus.
We celebrated our anniversary. The food was delicious and the service (Sheila) was great!
Always delicious at The Mooring...in fact ALL in the Newport Restaurant Group are delicious! Great food, staff, atmosphere, and on and on....try them you'll be very impressed and will return!
Outstanding meal and outside service! Always top notch !
We can't say enough great things about The Mooring. The food was amazing, service was fantastic and you're right on the water. I would go a back again in a heart beat and highly recommend it!
This was our first time at the Mooring for our anniversary. Everything was fabulous. From seating us on time to service to comping the dessert for our anniversary! It was great. Would definitely go again.
Always enjoy the food and atmosphere at The Mooring. Can't wait to return.
Heard about this place but was unable to get a reservation. I booked 2 weeks ahead on Open Table and was able to get a late (8:30) dinner reservation. We arrive a little early and sat at the back bar. The bartender's were friendly and very attentive considering it was a crowded bar. We did stand for a about 10 minutes but was able to get 2 stools. We still had about an hour to wait so we asked for a menu. The bartenders were all easy to make suggestions. Spot on suggestions. We were sat promptly at 8:30. Great table inside with the view of the harbor. Food was excellent. I write food reviews professionally and am putting the Moorings as a feature in my trip to Newport. Our total tab with 2 entrees, dessert coffee and a bottle of excellent wine was less than $150 including a generous tip. This will be a must do when I return to Newport.
Everything was wonderful! It was our wedding anniversary. Unlike restaurants at hom, they didn’t bring a littl cake with a candle or anything like that. Don’t look for any special attention. But that was fine—the food was so good and we couldn’t have eaten another bite anyway.
Extremely happy with our experience at The Mooring. The staff was very accommodating to hold our table/reservation for 15 minutes even though they were busy while my friend tried to find a place to park. The food was amazing and the service was quick and very friendly. Wonderful atmosphere to the whole place and the outdoor seating was lovely and very comfortable, surprisingly so as it was very windy outside but somehow we were shielded from all that. Hope to go back again someday!
Wonderful place...great food!
Really enjoyed the food and the view from out outside table.
The Ahi tuna was good but the pancake thing was tough. Could not cut it with a knife. Brought another one and was just wrong. Should have more vegetables.
My husband had the flounder fish and just sub par. Service was great!
For a Wednesday night post-Labor Day, we did not expect the incredible busy night at The Mooring that we had, and although we did have a reservation, we still needed to wait for a table to open up. As a result, the service (both at the bar and at our table) was good but not great - but having said that, the food was outstanding! From the mussels to the dessert, this was an excellent meal start to finish. Highly recommended, but be prepared to wait.
Despite having a reservation we had a 45 minute wait..despite lots of open tables. Had to ask reception 3 times about our table. Ordered steak medium rare..came medium. Not up to the recommendations we were given.
One of my favorite restaurants. Try to bring guests to Newport here for a terrific dining experience
We came here because of positive reviews of the food. The reservation went fine and the hostess was very nice. Our waiter was overly casual, like he was working in a sports bar. He didn’t tell us about any specials; we overheard another person tell the table next to us AFTER we ordered. The caesar salad looked like it had been sitting for a while (browned edges) and had way too much cheese and dressing. My cod was well cooked but flavorless. My husbands scallops were very nice. Very loud and parking was ridiculously expensive. We will not be back
Made last minute Anniversary reservations, still seated at a beautiful table on the water. Our waitress Denise was knowledgeable and attentive. Waterman Grille, owned by the same group, is our typical go to since it’s closer to home. We have been to three of their restaurants, all outstanding...food, ambiance..everything. The Mooring was no different. They pay attention to the details, all of their staff seem really happy and want to be there. Highly recommend!
My food was flavorless due to lack of seasoning. I’m allergic to shell fish bit was with a work group and figured I could find something to eat. I ordered the pork chop. Oh well. Go for the seafood because Others enjoyed their Meal. I would not go back. But that’s just me due to options.
If you love seafood, especially raw oysters, this is the place. Beautiful, scenic, gorgeous sunset.
Great service great food
Food quality OK, not as good as previous visits. Very loud, service fair at best.
My wife and I were in Newport for Labor Day, and we had dinner together at The Mooring. I have Celiac disease (Gluten-free), and I have always been impressed by their GF offerings. I want to especially comment on our waitress Rochelle. She was absolutely fantastic! A true professional, very friendly and outgoing, and she really took care of us (including taking some nice pictures)! Also, my GF meal (Swordfish) was amazing! She also brought us each a dinner roll before the main course, and my GF roll was the best I have ever had! We both recommend The Morring very highly (7 stars)!
Ordered a bloody mary that tasted like water..other than that everything was delicious!
My only concern with the service was that he courses came too quickly and out of order.
Reserved on line 2 months before our visit. Arrived 5 minutes early, the wait time at 6:10pm was 3 hours!
We had a wonderful table on the water, services was wonderful and the food was amazing.
My wife and shared the 2lb Maine lobster #2 stuffed and baked with scallops and shrimp. Absolutely amazing! The roasted, whipped garlic potatoes and farrow salad were on point. My wife’s cocktail, the endless summer, was phenomenal. The brussel sprouts were the only mediocre item on the table. Thank you Regan Pardo de Zela for setting us up with premium outdoor seating. Unforgettable meal!
