Very good service and menu knowledge as expected for a highly rated restaurant. Seeing as how gratuity is included the price doesn't seem so bad after all.
Food, service, and ambience are always superb at this restaurant.
Exceptional food with attention to detail. Service can be rushed but is very well staffed. Great wine list and wine pairings. Desserts are also exceptions. Since the change in the chef, the restaurant has been further invigorated. One of a must go places in the city, located in a museum. Food is most current and creative.
I was there for dinner with a friend on her birthday. The 8 course tasting menu and wine were exceptional but we didn't feel that we had the privacy needed when we were chatting. It felt like we were being rushed and were interrupted a couple of times. She wasn't even asked whether she was done with her birthday plate before it was cleared from the table.
Excellent food and service. We did an individual wine pairing which pushed the cost but for anniversary it was worth it. Small plates but by the end my wife and I were both full. We are NYC residents in our mid 30s-40s and the crowd had a similar vibe.
Great food. Arrogant waiter who we asked to be removed. After this the evening got a lot better
My husband and I went to The Modern for my birthday. We could not have been more please. I was meet at the door with a birthday greeting and received an extra dessert with a candle. The prix fixe menu had lots of choice, and everything was extra savory - the beef was exceptional! The servers were professional and attentive without being stuffy. Exceeded all my expectations!
Have fined at The Modern a few times over the past few years. Service and venue are among the best in town. New menu is outstanding, really enjoyed all four courses. Just an all around great time.
Exceptional tasting menu.
On your way to three Micheline Stars, no dobut about it!
Service was impeccable, every single server knew the menu in detail, both somaliers that serve me did an outstanding job in their recommendations and try to please my specific requests for my wine preferences.
Always a wonderful experience. The food is exquisite, beautifully presented, and 8-course tasting menu is perfectly balanced and coordinated. Some of the wines by the glass were delightful, including the recently reintroduced pinot from Santa Barbara.
The value is very high.
Exceptional restaurant. One of the best in NYC
The site, the food, and the services are incredible
This is an exceptional restaurant and experience. We dined at the bar for lunch and the formal dining room for dinner. The ambience is hard to beat. In the main dining room every seat has a perfect view of the MOMA sculpture garden. The clean modern seating swivels just enough to always have a view. The service was smooth as silk. It was like watching perfect choreography. The food was exceptional. We had the four course menu and it’s was plenty of food. The fois gras, scampi, crispy duck, striped bass, and chocolate ganache were perfect. There are a very good and reasonable wines on the extensive wine list. It is well worth the price. Special thanks to Kevin at the Modern and Steve at the Bar. Both are real pros and very interesting. The no tip policy really works at the Modern. It is perfect for a special occasion.
Everything was pretty good except I thought most of the dishes were bit too heavy in taste.
The wine pairing was awesome!!!
The Modern Dining Room always provides a “Wow!” experience. Executive Chef Abram Bissell, Chef de Cuisine Tom Allen and their team serve exquisitely delicious savory cuisine while Pastry Chef Jhio Kim creates extraordinary, scrumptious desserts. There is a superb wine list, and the sommeliers do a first-rate job with pairings. Service is welcoming and polished. Seating is comfortable, the noise level is moderate, and the very attractive space has a view of MoMA’s Sculpture Garden.
Whenever we visit Manhattan, we look for outstanding restaurants. The Modern definitely did not disappoint! The 4- or 8-course menu was exceptional. Our party of three decided on the 4-course menu ($168) and none of us ordered the same thing, intentionally. There are four salad, appetizer, entree and dessert options and each option was excellent. I won't detail what each of us had because you can't make a wrong choice!
The wine list was extensive and the service impeccable. We were never rushed. When I made the reservation, I requested a booth which was smart. It was cozier and made it easier to hear each other talk, although the restaurant is not that noisy. We will absolutely return on our next trip to the city.
Me encanta el menú de degustación, el servicio el mirar la terraza de esculturas del MoMA. El servicio excelente.
Amazing - creative- delicious - Every bite of every course was perfection. I didn't want it to end. Sets a new standard for excellence. Best meal I have ever had. Seriously. Worth. Every. Penny.
The Modern is our favorite restaurant for lunch in New York. The food and wine are second to none. Service and ambience are wonderful. It is one of the most serene places in the city. Ok, it’s not a bargain-but one definitely gets a bang for the buck.
Delightful in every way. The service is spectacular, with particular compliments to a friendly sommelier, the food is delicious - art on a plate in appearance and taste - and it's a beautiful and relatively quiet space. They have 4 or 8 course tastings. We did the 4. I particularly recommend the crispy duck and the lobster fricassee. An absolutely, nearly perfect meal. My highest recommendation.
Everything was absolutely beautifully executed. Service and food were on point from the moment we sat down til the moment we left. I wish i could habe stayed to eat more!
It was wonderful.
Outstanding experience. Great staff and fantastic food. We've chosen the main course with 3 dishes + amuse bouche fron the Chef (lunch for two people with Rosé wine costs $350). Nice place inside MoMA area. Worth the visit.
This was our second visit to the Modern. This time we managed to make a reservation for dinner. If you don't do that you'll have to wait at least 30 minutes at the bar and they will sit you in the front part of the restaurant, whereas with a reservation you get a table in a much quieter part of the restaurant in the back, nicer to have a good conversation with your friends.
All of the four courses were outstanding. I started with a fois gras that was incredible. Then a lobster fricassée, the main entrée, a suckling pig was divine, especially the crust, and we ended with a dessert that is one of my favorites, black forest, excellent, with a coconut sorbet as a side. The pictures here are the pig and the black forest.
The service of the modern is impecable and good service you recognize by the details. Starting with the sommelier that came promptly to our table just moments after I started reading the wine list. She also never let a glass of wine even half empty.
Also the waiters came in pairs to deliver three plates, so we all got our plates at the same time. Again, nice touch. This happened at each of our four course menu.
The modern is amazing. You will have to pay an expensive price, but if you like to eat well, I would say go for it, at least once. The menu costs 177 dollars, with service *included*.
Anyway, that is what I said in the first time and, look at me now, writing about my second visit 😊.
The 4-item price fixed menu was enough food for each of us. The dishes we got were very inventive with a myriad of flavors. The presentation was as expected from a Michelin started restaurant. The highlight of the night for me was the Foie Gras paired with a Suduiraut sauterne. I would go again to explore the other items on the menu.
Amazing meal. Did the eight course tasting menu and loved every bit of it.
Awesome meal and wine pairing
The experience of dining at The Modern was unforgettable. An oasis of good taste, decorum, attentive service and extraordinary food. The ritual of the wine choicing was made simple with the aid of a knowledgeable sommelier who understood the concept of good value. We ended the evening being welcome to visit the kitchen.
It was really amazing!!
We had a perfect evening with friends at The Modern. Our party of four chose the four-course tasting menu with wine pairings. The staff is perfectly trained and the sommelier was excellent in her choices for our wine pairings. Service was flawless and the food earned rave reviews. Simply delicious food and innovative presentations without seeming overly complicated. For a luxe dinner in midtown, The Modern was the highlight of our three-day dining adventure. Superb!
I had an intimate lunch with my husband at The Modern restaurant with a lovely view of MOMA’s sculpture garden while eating a scrumptious summer meal. Great service! Thank you to the chef for handling allergies and dietary issues with a lovely vegetarian meal for my husband.
Tasting menu was really good. The care, presentation and blending of flavors quite excellent. Great meal in a very pleasant dining room.
Many dishes were very good but some were average. The warm pear salad was nondescript and the cauliflower in the appetizer was way over cooked-it was mush. A restaurant of this caliber should be perfect or near perfect all of the time, the service was perfect but unfortunately the food fell short.
The bar room is very large, cold and uninviting
The pate was bland and could not recommend it. The seared duck was delicious but not worth the hype.
Deserts need serious help.
We were looking forward to this so much since our friends had just arrived from London. We were hoping to outshine Scott's but did not hit the mark by a long mile.
Upside: good drinks, excellent wine list, ambience in the main dining room wonderful. TWe love the Hospitality Included. It's about time we learned from Europe.
I feel badly about writing a negative review since we are foodies. But everything aside we still had a phenomenal time so Thank You.
Excellent dining experience. The bar staff were friendly and, based on my description of cocktails I like, made a wonderful cocktail for me. The dining experience was first class. All servers were very attentive to our needs and took extra steps to make our dining experience great. The deserts were extraordinary.
The Modern is an excellent restaurant; it is not cheap but the service is first class and the food consistently has good flavours which makes it stand out when compared to many well-known restaurants.
Lovely, relaxing, upscale excellent food. Top notch service. Pricey but worth it.
Everything was exquisite! Absolutely everything. We went for lunch, which was fun to relax and take our time in the middle of the day.
The entire establishment is a 5 star experience! Every possible aspect is individually the finest that I have ever seen in a restaurant/bar.
Everything was perfect. It is hard to remember a better meal
