The Mercury Ratings and Reviews
I made reservations for myself and a coworker from London to show him an amazing experience that is "Dallas" and was extremely disappointed to have been put in the sushi room, which has an almost fast food ambiance. I asked to be moved to the main room and was told no. Will never go again. Very very disappointed.
I had reserved a round table for a party of 5, confirmed it 2 hours before my reservation which she confirmed, but when we showed up, the hostess was clueless and did not have the table as requested. And had no idea how to handle it. The service and food redeemed itself and was great but I honestly do not think I will go back there again.
Two old friends and I chose Mercury for our quarterly get-together. On these occasions we want to talk as well as eat well, and Mercury meets our expectations on both counts. The waiter we had on this occasions was particularly helpful, and we asked him to choose our wine for us. He made an excellent choice and we enjoyed it very much.
We love this place for its usual menu! BUT we went at Thanksgiving. When we booked the reservation online, we were not informed that they offer a buffet instead of the usual menu. We did not learn about the buffet until our arrival and felt sandbagged. The buffet was average at best. Prime rib was gristly and tough. Other dishes were OK but not outstanding. Turkey was overcooked. When we got the bill we were shocked to be charged $60 each for a buffet that would go for about maybe $25 even at the finest hotels. We will remain loyal customers, but never again at Thanksgiving, thank you.
Went there for Thanksgiving brunch. Was thankful they had openings due to a mix up on previous res at Table 13. Brunch spread was a pleasant surprise. Everything from ribeyes to omelettes. It was extremely crowded and a 20-30 min wait from initial res time but was tolerable. The back room we were seated in was a bit chilly and a good distance away from the food buffet on the other side but it worked out especially after earlier crowd began to thin out. Service was great back there. The guys out servicing the buffet were attentive. Overall it was a very good experience . Knocked offf a star, 4 instead of 5 for overall due to being too chilly and the wait with having a res. Fourth time dining here and will come back again.
Thanksgiving Brunch for $59.95/person was way overpriced for the value. The Mercury should consider limiting the size of its brunch as it was overcowded, noisy and people were bumping into each other in the lines, food was not adequately stocked and was not appealing the way it was presented. The waiters could not keep up. Table cloths would be nice, and enforce a dress code for those who do not know how to dress for a special occassion. A real cattle call.
This restaurant is top notch. I often recommend it to others. Normally, the food is gourmet and prepared with an attention to detail. I had raved about this, reserving a table for family on Thanksgiving Day. I was disappointed overall. Atmosphere: Upon arriving, we were asked to wait as the place was mobbed. No place to wait unless encroaching on other diners. It seemed to be over-booked. Setup: The buffet was in another room, and we had to navigate down the narrow room, past other diners going both ways to/fro the buffet. Turkey was dry and Fruit was odd, and told by waitstaff it had been vacuum packed. On the up side, the prime rib was good, and the sides were fine, plentiful and of reasonable quality. The shrimp and oysters were my favorite. Desserts: mediocre at best. The service staff: quite accommodating but they were very challenged due to the crowd and flow of people to and from the buffet. All in all, I was apologizing to my family on the way home. I adore The Mercury's offerings for non-holiday meals, but I won't book another holiday meal there.
Incredible meal. We had not been here in many years. It is still a wonderful dining experience.
The Fois gras amazing, and the couscous carbonara was just out of this world. I had the duck (confit and breast) and my husband had the halibut which was prepared just perfectly. We had a soufflé for our dessert, and because I think they actually precook them slightly it was a little rubbery but still had nice flavor. The waiter was kind enough to bring 2 different sauces because we couldn’t decide. The only downside was with the food as creative and fun as it was, the wine list was uninspired and there was nothing of note either by the glass or bottle. It was just sort of blah. I think for a restaurant with food of this caliber, they should think about rehiring a sommelier and getting some really wonderful, interesting bottles to compliment the great food. This place still has a great ambiance and wonderful food and service despite this oversight. Definitely still a go to if you are up in Dallas-
ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCES WE HAVE HAD HAD AT A REST A D WE NEVER ATE. I HIGH END REST MUST HAVE A PROFESSIONAL FRONT A D MO AND HIS STAFF ARE NOT THEM. WE HAD AN 815 reservation and arrived at 810 a advised our party was late so 830 would work and we sat at the bar. At 840 I went to the front to inquire as our guests arrived and were told our table was ready. We cloaked out the bar tab and waited and waited and waited. It is now 9 a d we are still be told soon. At 915 we walked out and dined else where. Rude and Unprofessional is not how you succeed.
As usual, the food was excellent, as was the service and attention by David. We were not rushed and specific attention was given to our order. As per your "list", it may be a great place as a "Late-night Find" or "Afternoon Coffee" but I would venture to say that not too many people know of the restaurant's availability for those two instances. And, btw, the Beignets are great!
Never dissatisfied with The Mercury wether we are dining on a special occasion or just every day dining. Tonight our daughter and her fiancé joined us and it was a magical evening. We shared the fois grad appetizer and the steak tartare and both were delicious! For entrees three of us selected the filet mignonette and my wife selected the Halibut and everyone was pleased. We added Mac-n-cheese and Brussels Sprouts as shared sides and all all were very happy with their meals. We finished the evening with my daughter ordering butterscotch lava cake which was excellent, her fiancé ordered regular chocolate lava cake which was also very good, and my wife and I sharing Cream Brûlée which was wonderful. We we’re accommodated with our requested favorite table to cement a great evening. We highly recommend The Mercury for a special event or just every day dining.
This is the third time we've been to The Mercury. It's great. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. The wine menu is extensive and there are some reasonable prices by the glass for reds and whites. The service is attentive and friendly and efficient; it is not overdone as is the case in some of the better restaurants one goes to. The yellow tail appetizer was outstanding--Nobu quality for sure. The Black Cod was a wonderful fish but quite rich. Erick, our server, said it would be rich and he put the extra sauce they normally add on the side. I didn't use the extra sauce. My wife's duck was fabulous.
We done fairly often at the Mercury because it is always consistently good Food, the service is usually spot on, and the atmosphere is lively without being overly loud. On this occasion I had the 9 ounce filet and it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the halibut and loved it. We started by splitting a wedge salad which they are happy to do. We added a side of macaroni and cheese to round out the meal and will completely full and satisfied after all that.
Mercury has been around for decades. It is our "go to" restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, Christmas, & entertaining friends. It is a Preston Hollow staple. Always consistent & with well-prepared cuisine--the menu changes enough to stay fresh, but keeps a lot of clientele favorites to keep regular patrons returning. It's not the flashiest restaurant on the Dallas scene, but oh how wonderful to go to a well designed, comfortable restaurant & know you're going to have an excellent meal w/ experienced bar & waitstaff, leave satisfied & feeling well-cared for by employees -many ( bar & dining room) have been there for years. And... you can have conversations without shouting or straining to hearwhat your tablemates are discussing. What else can one ask of a familiar favorite fine dining room?
I had a salmon and it was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and nice. Offer to change when things did not match ( i ask for a regular coffee and it came and americano, probably my fault). The lady at the entrance could be more friendly. It was a kind of stif. My friends others were good too.
