The Melting Pot - Thousand Oaks Ratings and Reviews
Went for our One month wedding anniversary. Made the reservation through open table app. When asked if there was any special requests through the website I asked for a private/semi private table and to have a bottle of wine at the table when we got there. No bottle of wine when we arrived and no mention of wedding anniversary! After seated we waiting 30 mins for someone to take our drink order and another 15 mins to receive them. And for a Tuesday night right at 5pm when they opened that was unacceptable! Food was great as always just waited a long time to get started.
The Melting Pot is such a fun place to go, if you can afford it. Be aware that everyone at the table must agree on the cheese, the cooking style and the chocolate, as there is only one fondue pot at the table (more at the long group tables.) The meat and produce are all very fresh, and the staff will give you lots of advise on cooking time, and what sauce goes best with each meat/veggie. Plan for at least two hours for a full four course meal.
I love the cheese fondue. Had a salad that was very good. The chocolate fondue was too sweet for me. We got chocolate covered strawberries to take home. It is a bit pricey but it is definitely a fun thing to do for special occasion. Next time I will just do the cheese fondue and salad only.
Service level has definitely changed since I went years ago. The first 5 years it opened, servers were dressed like you’d see at a 4/5 star restaurant and they would spend a good amount of time going over the menu, talking about what pairs nicely with what, etc. A lot has changed. Our server was really nice and I have nothing against him but I felt like I was having my order taken at Applebee’s. The server was dressed in jeans, and unironed short sleeve button down— no uniformity in server dress (if they were going for a more casual look/theme) and dirty tennis shoes. This wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t a minimum $100/couple type restaurant. Server threw our plates and silverware down very quickly and loudly (wasn’t angry, just sloppily).Food was fine, but it was weird being charged what we were for such a casual type environment. Probably not coming back unfortunately.
Since our usual Melting Pot experience in Pasadena closed, we were initially very saddened to think that the only other location near us was almost 2 hours away in Thousand Oaks (Here's hoping a new one opens up soon that's closer). However, our love for the food and experience makes the trip worth the distance. The bartender made a virgin Spicy Mule when it's not a regular option for that particular drink and it was phenomenal. The extra step for its patrons is a refreshing feeling while frequenting a restaurant. We are Melting Pot enthusiasts through and through. Thanks again T.O. Melting Pot. Cheers!
The Melting Pot was great. We took our daughter for her 17th birthday and had fantastic time. The food was tasty and the service was excellent. It was nice to enjoy the different courses at a nice pace not hurried. The Melting Pot was the perfect choice for a birthday dinner!
This was my first visit to The Melting Pot. Service was good. Experience was fun. The cheese foundue was great and the dessert was fantastic. The meat was just OK. Don't know what I expected, but boiling your meat in flavored water was not it. Didn't taste all that good and it was odd. Anyhow, get the fondue, the salad and the dessert. All good. Expect to pay a lot. Go with a good attitude and have a good time.
We'd been to another Melting Pot and we're underwhelmed with our experience. Our waiter kept forgetting our order, rambling on. The cheese which he made at the table had so much nutmeg dumped in it was nearly inedible. The meat was overpriced for the portion size. None of it was remarkable and given the cost for the experience, we'd have rather gone somewhere else.
First time to the Thousand oaks location. We had a lovely birthday for my son. It is expensive, five of us split four dinners and ordered the extra salad. We had plenty to eat, but we did eat it all! Desert is amazing, I highly recommend both a white and a dark chocolate.
I love coming to the Melting Pot with friends I haven't seen in awhile because you have TIME to talk and catch up while you enjoy your super yummy fondue! I love the cheese course, I love the protein course, and the best part is always DESSERT. The drinks are great, too!
The service here was atrocious. We arrived 20 minutes early for our reservation and were greeted in the lobby with a stern "can we help you" as if we were interrupting people who clearly had better things to do. We were the only people in the lobby at the time and stated that was fine, we would come back at our reservation time and sat outside. When we returned, the host was listening to music with her headphones, and rather than greet us, abruptly pulled the headphones out. When I made an offhand remark about us not meaning to disturb her, she made a remark about knowing she shouldn't be doing what she was. We were sat at a table in the back of the restaurant. The space between the wall and the table was loaded with straw wrappers, dirt, food particles, etc. It was filthy, but I chose to ignore it because we were busy waiting to be greeted by anyone for almost 25 minutes. As this was our anniversary dinner, and a novelty, we decided to stick it out. Our server arrived at the 30 minute mark, sweaty, admitting he was very busy, and could he get our drinks going? We ordered our drinks, two waters and two beers and made a quick decision on the cheese course, not knowing when our server would return. He came back with two waters and our cheese. It would be another 15 minutes and having to remind him of our drinks twice, before he finally showed up with them. The manager (I assume) was filling our waters the second time we asked, and she had our beers comped off the check. At this point, our server returned to with salads and told us that we were his last table, and so we would see a lot of him! "Yay." We did not. He occasionally popped in after long absences. Just how bad the service was almost became comical to my husband and I and we agreed that in the future we would look back on how bad the service was at our first anniversary dinner with a fond memory of it being an adventure. Of course in the moment it wasn't so funny. On the bright side, our food was delicious
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially the opening four-cheese fondue and the dessert fondues. The blend of cheeses and spices was especially intense and flavorful. We decided to order individual chocolate dessert fondues one bananas foster and one dark chocolate rather than doubling up on one choice and enjoyed both entirely. We'll be going back and ordering multiple cheese fondues without any main course convinced that sampling more cheese combinations will be more gratifying than the main courses though they too were delicious.
The night started with spilled tray of drinks on my lap. No offer of napkins to help me dry off or an apology, just "Oh, yikes, lets move tables while I clean this up". Pair that with incorrect food brought to our table, missing dipping items that arrived after the cheese was gone, food being taken away without asking if we were finished, drinks that do not get refilled for 40 mins after asking 3 times, and the slowest service on earth and you have my not so happy birthday experience. We spent most of the three hour event without any food in front of us. You would think that a fondue restaurant would take long because of the time it takes to cook/dip everything. No, not the case. It takes forever for them to bring raw uncooked items to the table. They try to rush the things they shouldn't, and are too slow on the things they should be handling with urgency. Oh and it is so hot! The cook top stays on the entire time even when there is no food and there does not seem to be any airflow in the establishment. We waited 30 mins between cheese and salad, but they tried to take my salad away within literally 30 seconds. One person set my salad down, I took the first bite, and while I went of a drink of water another person came behind him grabbing my salad saying "excited for the next course?". My waiter, who had just set the salad down was in earshot, so he came back to the table after hearing me just start laughing. Our waiter asked "Is everything ok, would like to talk to a manager"? I said no, but told him that the experience was crazy, and asked him to just make the rest of the night run smoother please. The manager ended up checking on us and apologized for the spill. We told her about the entire experience, but things still went wrong after that. Arguing staff in front of us over cleaning up tables, no water for 40 mins, missing dippers at dessert. I wanted to love this place. The food is amazing, but the service kills the experience. And on my birthday, boo!
The Melting Pot is a regular spot for us to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. It is always a great experience. The food is excellent, the service is great. and the fondue experience is lots of fun. I would recommend the melting pot for anyone wanting something a little different.
We LOVE the Melting Pot. The food is consistently delicious, and the servers are fun, funny, and totally perfect for the funky experience (shout out to Kim, whom we've had loads and is wonderful and hilarious every time!). Our only complaint is that it takes some time for the drinks to come. We know that a 4-course meal at MP is generally a 3-hour event (and every minute is fun and fabulous), but getting cocktails, wine, and even sodas takes more time than it should. We go here for fun, for date nights, and for special occasions and are never disappointed.
The waiter seemed annoyed to have to explain the way the menu works and then after dinner dropped off the dessert menu and left for over 30 minutes. No one came to help us until his return. At that point it was so late so we were tired and annoyed so left with a coupon to come back for a free dessert. Dinner for two including tip was over $100. Not worth the time or price.
My daughter and I had a "mother and daughter weekend" this was the perfect dinner to celebrate our time together. Our waiter, Andrew, was excellent! He was funny, knowledgeable, and friendly. He made it one of the best and memorable dinner for my daughter and I. I I would definitely recommend and come back to The Melting Pot in Thousand Oaks!
Love going to the melting pot for date night or special occasions. We have had the server Jesse the last few times and he is amazing, and friendly. He is very attentive and accommodating to his tables so they don't feel like they are waiting for a long time when it comes to th next course. All of the times we have been at this location, we have never had a problem with any of the servers, but Jesse stands out the most. Thanks melting pot for an awesome date night.
Overall experience was very good, however the receptionist was a bit rude and not very welcoming when we first arrived. However the service after we were seated was exceptional. Can't remember the name of the young lady who served us, but she more than made up for the receptionist and our initial negative impression. Would recommend that training be provided to whoever is serving as your receptionist and stress the importance they can have on customer's initial impression of the restaurant.
