Excellent experience all around!! Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Asheville.
Beautifully designed restaurant with outstanding food. My wife and I started with a special appetizer of hen-of-the-woods mushrooms in a baked casserole with home made bread. Absolutely delicious! For mains, my wife had trout while I opted for pappardelle with lamb ragout. They we so good we decided to share. Bar drinks were well made and the wine list was extensive. Service was a bit slow, but COVID has left most restaurants nationwide with less staff than normal. We would highly recommend The Market Place!
The food was incredible, they use local producers and seasonal items to make their dishes and you taste it in the meals. Locally foraged mushrooms highlight many dishes and are done incredibly well. It is higher priced but worth every so often.
Limited menu. Even more limited dessert menu. Considering rated in top 100 restaurants in country expected more. There are many other restaurants in Asheville I prefer. Doubt I will go again.
Truly one of the best meals we’ve had in Asheville, and that’s saying a lot! The drinks, the food, the service, all outstanding. It was a really special evening.
Extremely pleasant staff and wonderful food and drink. We especially enjoyed the zucchini fritters
Delicious seasonal food, thoughtfully prepared. Our service was outstanding. Very nice wine list, too. The Market Place is a standout in Asheville’s excellent restaurant scene.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The food and service were great. Will definitely return when we visit Asheville again.
Lively restaurant with a typical Asheville clientele of older, middle aged, and 30-something folks. Great food and flawless service. Definitely a fine experience.
Peaceful atmosphere. Welcoming staff. Meal was paced perfectly. Food was unique and very good.
The ambiance was nice. Our server seemed dismissive and never asked us how the food was or checked on us for drinks. We ordered mussels and the trout. The mussels were good but the trout did not taste fresh. Trout is usually our favorite meal and we left half of it uneaten. Heard another table next to us say the food wasn’t good to the waiter as well. Very disappointing.
We celebrated a birthday with out of town guests. It was never acknowledged despite putting it in the reservation.
My husband and I ordered martinis and were disappointed in the glass they were in. Not martini glasses, more like a highball.
The dinners were mediocre at best. I ordered a lamb pasta dish. There were three bites of lamb over a mound of tasteless, sauceless pasta. $30. Another had undercooked scallops $40 and the $30 ravioli was bland. Don’t get me wrong, we have no problem with the prices if it’s good!
The chocolate dessert was dry and hard, resembling store bought. Unfortunately, we got two and left it.
We smiled right through it, no complaining, dropped about 500 bucks and will never go back.
I don’t understand the rave reviews. There is nothing special about this place.
One of the best brunch meals we have ever had. The locally sourced food was excellent as was the service. This was to celebrate our anniversary of 36 years. We ate at this same restaurant 40 years ago on a prom date. We think its even better now!
Our meal was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was polite and friendly without being intrusive. And we were lucky enough to get outdoor seating on a beautiful summer day. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Amazing is a understatement! Perfect food, wonderful service, ambience was incredible, and the waiter was very personable. I see why the chef beat Gordon Ramsay on Uncharted. He definitely earned that first class trip lol.
The food was fantastic! It was my first time eating here and I was definitely not disappointed. Our waiter John was great!
Fantastic! Don’t sleep on this place for brunch. Everything was delicious and the service and ambiance were great!
Taste was almost unbelievable! Everything worked kind of magically together!
7pm reservation. Seated quickly with a choice of in or outside. Vince was handling all the outside tables very well. The wine, tomato and house salads were terrific. My paparedelle and her trout were great as well
The service was very good; the food was good but not exceptional for the price/value; the booth we were in is desperate for a repair and was uncomfortable to sit on; the dessert menu was skimpy and disappointing. We had been looking forward to this dinner, had three starters and three different entrees, and were disappointed. It was too expensive to just be adequate. However, the G&T was excellent.
Kitchen was very slow but the quality was excellent. Brought out appetizers and salad at the same time after a long wait. Main course took about an hour between courses.
Awesome food great service at the bar
Excellent meal and service. We made reservations for a high top table as that was the only available for the time we were in Asheville. When we arrived the host offered us outside seating if we would be willing to wait a few minutes. Our server, Rob did a fine job waiting on us. Chicken of the woods mushrooms for an appetizer, (new to us). She had a delicious ravioli dish and I had roasted pork shoulder, tender, spicy seasoning, with a delicious Mexican corn. Meals were original and perfectly prepared.
I am disappointed with the food at the Market Place. Years ago it was one of my favorite restaurants when Mark was the owner. The tuna tataki was cold as it if it had been pre-prepared and not recently seared. I love raw fish and I didn’t eat the full serving. Many options have a heavy hand with thick cream and animal food. Not simple, light and clean tasty cuisine.
We were very pleased with the food especially: the ingredients were fresh; preparations were simple but well-executed; each dish was tastefully presented. Service was profession but a little unenthusiastic (it's understandable, given how busy Asheville is these days). However, the friendliness of the manager made up for the staff's lack of energy. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant; it was a very good experience.
Risotto was bland and very peppery. Parpadelle was good but very small portion and not very warm.
Everything was wonderful.
i had the lamb pappardelle and my partner had the scallops. both wew perfectly cooked and the flavors of each dish were incredible. i am looking forward to returning and trying the ravioli.
Food was not compatible with pricing. It is way overpriced when compared to quality.
Dalton was very informative on all the menu choices. We appreciated his knowledge about all the local ingredients and recommendations. Outstanding service and of course the food was amazing! I came back for the special mushroom small plate and braised lamb papperdale which did not disappoint!
Service was great. Food was prepared perfectly and very flavorful. One of us has a dairy allergy. They were very accommodating while keeping the entree very well seasoned.
We will be back again soon!
Excellent service, food and ambience!
Something for everyone on the menu.
Exceptional, attentive service! Food was fresh and fabulous.
Our server was super friendly and helpful.
Little tweaks would help a lot!
-Food was a bit uneven--some dishes very flavorful, others underseasoned. Seed bread was stale and flavorless (at 10 bucks, should be better!).
-Outdoor patio was loud with a screen door from kitchen that slammed hard every few seconds as staff came in and out (which they did with so much frequency). And outdoor speakers had a tinny, pitchy sound (especially with horn music). So a few adjustments there would help a lot!
-Lots of potential for improvements, as it's clear there are good things happening at the restaurant, too.
Although there were some very different dishes, everything we had was very good!
From our sit down cocktail through dessert the food and service was outstanding. Exceeded our expectations for a first night out post-COVID.
Not their fault ordered steak overcooked not medium rare-wife’s pork shoulder A+.Collards great. Service was quick.
I am sad to report having remarkably bad meal here last night. We both ordered the steak, which I have had in the past and remembered as a really great dish. Unfortunately, last night everything about it was off. The texture was somehow both rubbery AND soft and the seasoning was unhelpful to say the least. If this had been a steak a Denny’s, it would’ve been acceptable I suppose, but as a $40 entrée at a nice restaurant, it was not. Other parts of our order were similarly disappointing: french fries that are normally delicious were served lukewarm and soggy; fermented vegetables were neither fermented nor the vegetables we were told to expect. I don’t usually write reviews at all, let alone bad ones, but although our very nice server tried to lobby on our behalf, the manager did not even approach our table to explain or apologize. She gave us a free round of drinks without appearing, but that was somewhat underwhelming on a total bill that was over $200. I understand that the pandemic has had some lingering effects on restaurants, and I want to be fair to the chef and the management (and assume it was just an off day for the restaurant) but this was an experience I cannot afford to repeat.
Everything was delicious! I would recommend the mussels and the mushroom ravioli. Our server was wonderful!
