Amazing farm to table entrees. Try the quail!
Servers and chef worked with us to meet our tight timeline.
The service was decent but not exceptional. The bread was fabulous. The salad was good but not stellar. The pasta entree was better.
Our waitress was wonderful and the food was delicious!
Everything was wonderful! The risotto was a tad undercooked but the atmosphere and appetizers were great!
I chose this restaurant to celebrate a 22 Year Wedding Anniversary. The service was excellent and the food was great too! The only thing was the menu was pretty limited.
Loved everything we had! Will definitely be back next time we’re in Asheville!
My husband and I dined here while visiting Asheville. It was our second time at The Market Place and I think it was even better this time. Our cocktails were divine. They had a live jazz trio playing, and that always wins extra points for me. I had the pumpkin soup, my husband had the pear salad and we split the scallops (dreamy!), the mussels, and the Mac and cheese - all incredibly delicious. We will return!!
Always fabulous! Remarkable food. Wonderful service. We’ll be back again and again.
Baked mushrooms appetizer was the perfect accompaniment to the superbly prepared tilefish. Our waitress was gracious and made excellent recommendations. It was a splendid evening.
Really enjoyed the relaxed feel of this place. The beer selection was great. Both Porters on tap were delicious. For starters, we had the Mixed Green salad and Mac and Cheese were very tasty and great proportions for sharing between 2 people. For main entree I had the special which featured house-made sausage with a brussel sprout sprout salad mixed in a mustard-based dressing and mashed Sweet potatoes. Just an awesome combination of flavors. My wife had the agnolotti and loved every bite. Service was timely and polite. Looking forward to going back next time we’re in Asheville.
This is a very nice restaurant, however the food and service are not up to par. But, being in Asheville, it caters to the granola crunchy crowd that live in the area. If you like farm to table food then this might be your cup of tea.
Met friends for very nice meal and excellent small plate special. The service was excellent and the choices for drinks, deserts, and main courses were inventive and delicious.
What a gem in every way possible! Hands down the best meal I had on my visit to Asheville and the service, food and ambiance/comfort of the restaurant was top notch! No detail overlooked... the cider chai was fantastic as well as the papardelle. WOW! Counting down the days to be able to return.
My wife ordered the quail which was very good. I got the pork shoulder which was perfectly cooked and very flavorful but over-salted which was a little disappointing, though not at all uncommon at high-end places. Not sure why that is - you can always add more but can't take it away. I think some chefs hate seeing people adding salt to their stuff. The best thing we got was the pumpkin blue cheese soup which was perfect. Try the calavera cocktail. Delicious.
Great flavors. Menu is limited but we had no problem selecting things we wanted
We treated a neighbor to a birthday dinner. Food, service and ambiance were wonderfully accompanied by a jazz ensemble.
What a memorable meal!
We went here by default (we couldn’t get into our top choices for a Sunday night dinner. We were impressed with each of our small plates and dessert. Seevice was excellent.
Good food (smaller, healthy servings). Tasting menu is very nice. Service was good, but somewhat slow.
Absolutely lovely. We really enjoyed our time at The Market Place. Brunch was incredible-everything was delicious. The staff was pleasant and efficient. I recommend highly and cannot wait to return!
Pretentious atmosphere. Smug server. Tough steak. Underdone eggs. Misrepresents Asheville.
A wonderful special occasion restaurant. The quail was out of this world.
It was a busy Saturday evening the week before Thanksgiving. This was our first visit to this restaurant. The food was good and our server was on the ball, in spite of being busy. We had a long wait after our appetizer (20 minutes) but we were not in a hurry, so this was not a problem. The restaurant has different vibes depending where you are seated. The bar area at the entrance and upstairs seating overlooking the bar had more atmosphere than where we were seated at the back which was more like a family restaurant with bright lighting and so-so decor. In fact, we had three young children at a table close to us who were well-behaved overall, but restless after a while. The ‘live music’ consisted of a person at the entrance at a some equipment. Not sure what she was doing, but the techno music that played all evening began to be monotonous after a while. Maybe OK for a disco, but not for dining IMHO. If you are looking for something more intimate, I would not recommend... at least where we were seated.
Consistently, predictably good.
Awesome food. Attentive service. Great ambience. Try the squash fritters, pickles, scallops and Mac n cheese! You won’t be dissappointed!! GPS takes you to the back door which you can’t get in so you have to loop around to the other side
Excellent, reasonably priced.
Highly recommend! And we will hopefully return.
Mussels were overcooked
My husband and I were in town for a quick getaway weekend, and this was our favorite restaurant in Asheville. The service was attentive but not overbearing, the food was fabulous. Every bite was a treat with locally sourced and seasonable ingredients, gorgeous presentation, and creative and adventurous taste combinations. The room was understated but attractive, but the most noticeable feature was how quiet it was. It was easy to carry on a conversation. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Marketplace continues to serve up creative and delicious meals, year round. Cordial wait staff, competent kitchen crew, super- creative menu, and interesting mix of patrons gives this somewhat chic restaurant the edge over most other dining establishments. Marketplace remains on my list of top 3 Asheville food experiences.
Food was delicious but our large plates took a long time to come out of the kitchen. Our server didn’t check on us and didn’t seem to care. She ended our meal with a rude comment that left us not wanting to come back. So unfortunate considering the food was delicious!
The Market Place is always an enjoyable experience!
The food was amazing. There was nothing lacking with any dish. We shared small plates so we could try more dishes and did not regret any. We were so full we still want to try more items!
Wonderful special small plate of wild mushrooms...
Trout perfectly prepared
Lamb and papardelle has a very nice broth
Ambiance is upscale minimalist
Service was very good
Even had “cheater” glasses for those who left own home
Wonderful meal every time I've been here. It's a great go-to especially because they're open every evening for dinner. So hard to find restaurants in town that are open on Monday/Tuesday. The local ingredients make this a special place, and the service is always amazing. Very warm and friendly, but professional too.
I like to bring out-of-town visitors because of the farm to table emphasis. Nice to showcase everything that's great about AVL.
We are repeat customers and will continue to be given quality of food and service
This place is a pure treat!! The food was amazing, I recommend the quail and snapper! Don’t forget dessert!
We booked the reservation early and asked for a quiet table. We were seated upstairs next to a table with three toddlers, one in a high chair who was crying throughout the meal and one who wandered around the tables while her parents visited with friends. We asked to be moved and were told it couldn’t be done.
Steph, our wait person, was wonderful, redirecting the toddler to her own table when the parents didn’t take action.
Our food was wonderful and the small combo provided nice entertainment but we will only return if we can be guaranteed we won’t be seated in the children’s section. Our plan for a quiet dinner sure didn’t work out that way.
We loved our meal..cooked to perfection, knowledgeable and helpful, friendly waiter,
quiet and classy atmosphere.
Market Place is a restaurant that I have been wanting to try for years. It did not disappoint. We enjoyed both the food and the ambience. Service was impeccable. I would highly recommend. We will return.
My husband and I celebrated his birthday at the Market Place Restaurant. The mushroom appetizer was fabulous. The food was delicious and very nicely presented. We will come back again with our dog I see they have outside seating.
Our server was very accommodating. She allowed me to make several substitutions with no problem.
My omelette was cooked well but was very slim on the cheese.
Dessert was disappointing.
