World Famous Clam Chowder
The von Rutenberg family award-winning recipe!
Twin 6-oz. tails of succulent lobster, served with drawn butter
The Marine’s Inn is the quintessential supper club on the water. That being said, we couldn’t eat outside because there was not enough staff. This was summer midweek, but the place was busy. We ordered the shrimp special and it was special indeed! Perfectly prepared, served quickly by a cool, calm experienced waitperson who was unflappably serving several tables at once. One of the side dishes they are known for is the clam chowder, lots of crab and no potato fillers. And even though ewe were quite satisfied by dinner, we ordered the fresh cherry cheesecake and key lime pie. Generous servings and mouth filling deliciousness really put us over the top! Next time I’m trying the walleye.
From the entry to the exit was excellent. Paul greeted me and my wife and seated us with a great view of the lake.
We had a server named Pam. We were seated on the patio which we wanted but turns out they have plastic chairs and tables that don’t quite match the prices to the menu. We ordered our drinks, 20 mins later our appetizer came out, still waiting for our drinks. The server finally brings them out and my drink was wrong but she insisted it was not. We told her we were just doing the apps and she snatched the menus away. We also heard her tell the table behind us that she was not the chef and she didn’t know what broiled meant. The manager handled it very well and was super pleasant.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Delicious food. Beautiful waterfront setting with lots of outdoor tables facing lake and marina. Madison icon. So glad it survived the harsh economics brought on by the pandemic.
Wonderful food and service.
Anniversary celebration. They offered us a free dessert to share which was a nice touch.
Food was good but for a restaurant like this, food plating was lacking.
This was our 53rd anniversary . Mariners made it special . They gave us a perfect table and the food was excellent. Great value for the money. We had not been there in years and they did not let us down. Thanks so much for a lovely evening. Karen and Phil
Wanted a true Wisconsin dining experience and we got it. The service was marvelous and solicitous, but everything
Love this restaurant with the old supper club ambience. The broiled walleye and filet were both delicious.
Fabulous waterside setting with wonderful service.
Beautiful view. Wait service seemed to be stretched. There were fairly long periods of time between the waiter showing up at the table and he was unaware of the drink prices. The clam chowder, although good in taste, was small in portion. It was a third of the Bowl.
Great place for a summer meal by the marina...always great food and great service.
Thank you for the nice outdoor table.
after 40 years it was as great as then. excellent
Friendly, attentive service and delicious meals, as always.
Great food, gorgeous scenery and wonderful ownership!
Food and service amazing
Our food was delicious. In spite of making a reservation for a certain time, we had a 25 minute wait for a table. Point of making a reservation?
Great food and service.
Great friends, great food, great service!
Best fish fry in Madison for sure! Plus many other delicious dishes.
Awesome as usual!!!!
We ordered the bone in ribeyes. They were gray. Very tough. No flavor. Our server was very inattentive and the couple times he did check in on us he couldn’t get away from our table fast enough and didn’t even give us a chance to respond before he ran off. Our bill was $108 for two of us and I’ve never felt more disappointed in a meal or experience.
Great food, although we had to send burnt hash browns back
But second batch were good
Fabulous food and ambiance for visiting with family.
Be careful that you get your charge card back.
Place we can always count on for a great dinner with good food, nice atmosphere and a feeling of being de-stressed and relaxed by the time we leave.
Mariner’s Inn is always outstanding! We love the fish fry and go there frequently. We’ve eaten there for over 20 years and always have had an outstanding experience!
Went for our anniversary and had an outstanding meal. Great drinks and service too.
Meal and service was outstanding! We can’t wait to go back.
The food was great. The service was a little slow, but I think that was because they were so busy. I'd go back again.
We went for Mother's Day Brunch. Due to Covid the buffett was not available but staff brought each table a selection of items off and on throughout the time you were there. Food was not the best. Eggs were cold, prime rib seemed off. The waitstaff tried very hard to serve a brunch the best they could. Should have just stuck with entrees vs. trying to do a brunch "Covid-style". Not recommending right now.
We went their for the Mother's Day special. It was great.
Graduation dinner! Mariners Inn staff treated us to a wonderful experience!
We had reservations on the night of UW's graduation. The host (Jack), was awesome! We had some last minute changes that were handled exceptionally. Jack was able to put our group together on one table which made topped off a grade day for our graduate and his family. The food was fantastic! The service was great! The drinks were perfect! I highly recommend The Mariner's Inn.
Great meal and service as usual. The waitress was prompt, accommodating, and friendly
UW Madison graduation.
Mariner's Inn is always our first choice for celebrations so it was obvious that our family of eight celebrated our son's graduation from UW School of Medicine at Mariner's Inn on Friday. We were cordially greeted by the owner Jack von Rutenberg upon arrival. Our linen covered table was waiting for us next to the windows overlooking the marina and the bay. Our attentive waiter served us our cocktails promptly and allowed us time to converse. We started the evening with appetizers - calamari, shrimp cocktail and of course Wisconsin cheese curds. The next course was the house salad or their famous clam chowder served with warm dinner rolls (including pumpernickel - my favorite). We complimented the meal with a bottle each of cabernet and pinot grigio. The food was wonderful as always - steaks cooked to perfection, salmon that melted in your mouth and our 2 year old grandson loved the mac and cheese. Served with choice of potato (garlic mashed & hash browns are the best) and my wife loved the veggies also. Our newly anointed MD son devoured the lobster tail and tenderloin steak. All in all, a wonderful meal with impeccable service, providing a memorable experience to honor a life achievement in our family. Thank you to Jack and the staff at Mariner's for a wonderful experience to honor our son.
I've enjoyed many dinners at The Mariner's over the years, but I have to say that last Friday's meal was the best! Jack ans his staff are at the top of their game! I can't wait to go back.
The food and service were fabulous. We were celebrating our daughters college graduation, but there was no mention or acknowledgement from the staff. if you’re looking for help from the restaurant to celebrate, you might need to make special arrangements.
