Apps were great, entrees were just okay
Good place for drinks after work. Food is very good, doesn't make it to outstanding, but very good. Service was prompt and courteous. Had the duck breast and can recommend it highly. Generous drinks well prepared. Very nice dinner overall.
This was our second time here and both times the food was really fantastic. The seating at the Local is cramped. In order to accommodate the demand they have shoved too many tables into their establishment. On our last visit we were seated in a small table by the front doors. We were so closed to the adjoining tables that every time our waiter attended to the table beside us the napkin hanging out of his back pocket hung out onto our table. The wait staff so far have been attentive, but not really friendly. If you can go here at a not so crowded time.
We had a great meal celebrating a friend's birthday. Service was thoughtful, food was excellent, noise level a bit higher than ideal for 4 way conversation, but we thoroughly enjoyed. Will be back - thanks!
Great service and a delicious dinner. The clam chowder special was hearty and had great flavors. I loved the gnocchi bolognese. Very good texture and tasty sauce.
Food was great, service was a little scarce... had to flag the waiter down to get another drink, a highly recommend. The food won’t disappoint
I hadn't been to the Local for at least a year. It was as good or better than I remembered it. The menu was broad, the food we ordered was great and we had a great waiter. I couldn't have been more pleased.
Outstanding. We have eaten there multiple times and have never been disappointed. We particularly enjoy the cheese plate appetizer.
A consistently excellent choice.
We’ve been coming to The Local on and off for about ten years, we live right down the street. Our only complaint is that the menu hasn’t changed in that time, for a place that wants to bring in the same folks over and over again, it would be nice if there were a little more variety. That being said, the food is good and the ambiance is great. It’s a very relaxed comfortable place.
Had the Truffle Mushroom pasta, which was excellent. The pasta must have been made in house, very fresh and great texture.
Appetizers and salads were great, entrees (ahi tuna, tenderloin, duck) were cold plated and served room temp at best. Pasta was hot. Drinks good. Water glasses left empty and had to be refilled from waiter station near table. Waiters were clearly in the weeds. Sent duck back to kitchen and it was returned hot but overcooked. It was not eaten. It was credited. No apologies for the mishap.
Great food and service
Service was prompt and attentive; food was prepared and to the table in a timely manner. The presentation was appealing for both the salmon dish and the bison pad Thai, except that the noodles were watery and did not appear to have been properly drained. Even so, the pad Thai was an interesting twist on an Asian standard; the generous chunks of bison were also a plus. Would I go back? Yes. Would I opt for a second shot at the pad Thai? Unlikely.
Five of us had dinner at The Local. Unfortunately, two were not happy with their meals - small, overcooked burger and soggy fries and overcooked meatloaf and potatoes. The other three thought the food was fine although not outstanding. Service was acceptable.
Had a good experience including a slight issue with with a dish that my date couldn’t eat because of an intolerance. They did a great job of handling that issue without any big deal.
Great old old shoe repair business with a great bar and excellent chef serving local fare. Plenty of food but it was of great quality! Everything looked so awesome ours and all around us
Cost was very good for a memorable evening!
Loved my drink, 38 special
Went for a friends birthday and the service was impeccable- they served our cake with candles! Food also delicious
Food is amazing. Very loud and cramped though. Service was good. The chicken dish is awesome!
Great food, attentive servers, noise level low but got increasingly louder as the Saturday evening crowd arrived. Charming ambience of older building makes for a great date night spot or just a meal with friends. I’ll be back.
Food was over seasoned and too salty to eat. Unfortunate because the menu looked good and the service was very good.
Great food and warm atmosphere for a cold rainy night
We last visited the Local about 5 years ago. We always liked it but it is about 50 minutes from our house. To celebrate my daughter's birthday, we decided to go into Charlottesville and visit it. We are so glad we did! The ambiance of a circa 1922 house is very nice, with a wood stove providing the warmth. The waiter was very pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu. When questions arose about wine, he found the buyer and came back with recommendations. The Salmon was perfectly cooked, the Skate was truly outstanding as was the dumplings with meat sauce. Our grandson had a delicious burger. All the portions were very generous. For desert, the chocolate flour-less cake and the banana split were delicious.
We look forward to our next visit!
Exceeded my expectations. Could not ask for a better experience to gather with family
We enjoyed the delish salmon and blackberry cobler plus Jefferson drink! Cozy historic building in Belmont neighborhood plus great waiter.
Service a little spotty, considering a youngster was the last served and other items forgotten. Scallops and some other entrees seemed a little too contrived, but food was good.
Have dined at the Local many times, and the food and service are always terrific. It was incredibly loud on this visit, and that was somewhat disappointing. It was extremely hard to carry on a conversation with other people at my table. We were seated upstairs, part of which was closed off for private party. This made access to the area where my party was seated challenging, via outdoor staircase.
I never remember meals but I loved and remember well my delicious meal at The Local!
Delicious food as always!
The food was decadent! Flavors to die for! Our 2nd time was even better than our first over a year ago!
I’ve heard wonderful things about the Local, however, I did not have a positive experience. To begin with, our server seemed overwhelmed and took awhile to greet us. The bartender had to come over numerous times throughout the evening to check on us. My husband ordered the Bolognese, which he enjoyed. I ordered a medium-rare burger which came out well-done and charred on the outside. I definitely will not be returning.
The food was great. The room where we sat was crowded and uncomfortable. They really need to rethink the seating there. We could hear everyone and the seats were too close together.
Always delicious, always hard to choose what to have because it's all good. Lovely server, too.
3 out of 4 diners ordered the special early evening and they were already out. Butternut squash soup was not to our liking at all, maybe others would like it. Service was good not great
Food and service were outstanding. However, if you're seated near the door, people waiting to be seated will be standing over you and, if it's cold outside, you'll be freezing from the constantly open door.
Other than sitting right by the door, everything else was perfect.
More of a warm weather place as far as back of the restaurant seating. A bit of a maze. Food was good
Best duck I have ever had. Unique especially the rice balls
We went to The Local on a Saturday evening with a group of 4. The restaurant was very busy and a bit of an odd design. You had to go up an outdoor stairway to an upstairs area that was split into multiple rooms by folding glass doors. There was also outdoor seating. Our meals were fine but nothing special. The noise level was absurdly high and made conversation difficult. The service was OK with multiple servers responsible for the food and drinks.
We come to Charlottesville every Fall. We rented a VRBO walking distance to The Local. So glad we ate here. Quirky ambiance delicious food!
