We have not had the opportunity to visit The Local in a while. But it was birthday celebration time and we made our reservation. The food, as we remembered it, was excellent. The host and server were lovely. It simply was great food and a great atmosphere. We look forward to our next visit.
Our group had a good variety and all was really good - lamb, beef filet, meatloaf, pork chop and gnocchi. Can’t go wrong really. My fav was the flourless chocolate cake.
Great food. Perfect dinner place when visiting UVA.
Went for a late evening date night and couldn't have had a better experience! One of my favorite places for the ambience alone. The staff was friendly, gave great recommendations, and were very attentive. The delicious food was just the cherry on top.
Nice place for dinner.
Food is pretty good. But...green beans were cold, sweet potato strings were so tiny they were hard to eat. Trout was ok. Am hoping on another occasion it would be better.
It's somewhat noisy, but also cozy and the staff is fine.
Our experience was outstanding! It was a perfect in every way!
Great food, reasonable prices. Great atmosphere.
Always enjoy bringing friends and family from out of town to The Local. Consistently good food and service.
Our waiter was great, cute personality and attentive service!
Wonderful meal with excellent service. Loved sitting upstairs, out of the way. Steak Frites was cooked perfectly. We’d will definitely go back!
Our reservation was for 5PM & we were probably the 2nd or 3rd customer to walk in the door for our reservation. Seating was not so good. We asked to be seated away from the door but were told all the tables were reserved for other reservations. So, we were seated next to the podium at the entrance. It was a bit noisy every time another customer walked in plus the cold weather blew in as well. We had to wear our jackets the whole time we were there. Next time, we will be sure to request a better table! If the Local won't comply with our request, we will walk out & go elsewhere.
On a better note, the food was excellent. Wait staff was attentive & pleasant.
There was a fly in my wine, the waitress brought me a new glass but did not comp the charge on our bill. Overall, the food was good but definitely not as good as I remembered.
Great place to eat in a great spot! We had the burrata, steak frites, and beef short ribs. All were delicious and waiters were very friendly!
good food and service
Every time I go to the Local I am reminded why it is my favorite restaurant in Charlottesville.
Wonderful find! Cozy table upstairs with excellent service. Food was delicious!
Having been to Local many times in the past our recent visit was very disappointing. Food was not well prepared and service was exceptionally slow.
Underwhelming. The menu sounded innovative. The delivery missed the mark entirely. Nothing like the menu descriptions. The cauliflower Brussel sprout app was just fried, nothing special. The shrimp app very bland. The New York strip was gray and hardly grilled and was accompanied by 5 haricot-vert despite the server saying there were typically heaps of them. The chili rubbed pork chop was truly tasteless and a thinner cut. The mac n cheese with the fried chicken looked like Kraft and the food was lukewarm. Even the dessert, a blackberry cobbler, was thrown together with berries but no blackberries or discernible cobbler crust. So disappointing. The only positive was the service was very good though we did have to ask for steak knives and salt and pepper.
2 top tables are too close together
Our second time visiting Local and we are very satisfied with the food and service! We tried their burrata and shrimp for appetizer, pork chop, meatloaf, squash (OMG amazing), short ribs for entree and everything was absolutely delicious !!! Honestly impressed with food and reasonable prices!
I took my husband here with my family for his birthday. His appetizer and his entree came out cold and he had to return it to get it heated up, which took a long time. The server brought out a birthday brownie at the end of the meal that I had ordered before the dinner started. She charged us for the brownie. I felt like that was just tacky. The server should have given us the brownie for free as a gesture to say they were sorry. I have worked in restaurants for many years and that is what I would have done. They were slammed and understaffed. I know that is typical these days, but it doesn't change the fact that the server could have given us a complimentary birthday brownie to recognize what was happening. At the end I was so sad I asked to speak to a manager and there was none on duty. I am disappointed and will never return here again.
Recommended by niece that graduated from UVA. Food was excellent and the service by Stella was outstanding.
We will definitely come back and eat there again and recommend this restaurant to all our friends.
This was for our 20th Anniversary and it certainly didn't disappoint.
Always love The Local. And now that I’m retired, especially love half price wine on Mondays! We’ll be back.
Great menu, something for everyone. Food was flavorful, tasty. Service excellent
The space is very nice. Food was not hot. My dish reminded me of a recipe I might have enjoyed from the Moosewood Cookbook when Zi was 25 but not in my, ahem, more mature years. Desert was too sweet; again, if I was 25 but I am not.
As usual, we were very happy with our food. The brussel sprouts/ cauliflower appetizer is so scrumptious. However this time some of the Brussel sprouts weren't quite cooked enough. I tried something new, the salmon, which tasted delicious although I didn't see the wasabi pea crust. The goat cheese salad is one item I wouldn't bother with again.
Our server was very sweet and attentive, but she made quite a few mistakes (delivering another foods table to us, giving my husband the wrong drink, and the salad arriving after our entree). We weren't too bothered: we know good help is hard to find!
We had a fun dinner with cousins who live in C’ville. The menu accommodated members of our party who keep kosher or are vegetarians, keto dieters and regular eaters. There were delicious choices for everybody and the food was well prepared. The noise level was pretty loud and I had trouble participating in the conversation from my seat at the end of the table. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful- smart, cheerful, professional, attractive. We had a wonderful evening.
We had a wonderful experience at The Local. We had a party of 4 none of us had been there previously, we all got different entrees and were all pleased with our meals. They were delicious and the service was great. Our waiter was Jordan and he was friendly, kind and helpful. We will definitely go back again. Thanks to all the staff for a great evening.
Great service and nice ambiance
Great tenderloin and wine. Appetizers may improve especially the fried Brussel sprouts and cauliflower were greasy and uncooked/ hard. Will certainly go back
Fried chicken was delicious
Love the Local. Unfortunately we were out next to the door….
Great service and great food. Great place with a very creative menu.
Food was delish- atmosphere was ok but staff on the lower level were putting things in trash and recycling bins numerous times and it was not conducive to a great ambiance. However food was great and service matched that!
We thought our meals were fine except my wife's first choice was not available. It seemed quite noisy for us but that could be because we are old. Close parking is sparse so make sure you leave time to find a place to part on a side street.
Great food and sat outside on upper deck on a beautiful evening. Great referral from friends.👍
We ordered a medium burger and got overcooked well done burger that was dry and hard to chew. We also ordered their version of fruiti di mare linguini pasta hat was super dry and without taste. Overall, it was not what we hoped to expect from all the excellent reviews we read.
The local was trendy and had a good atmosphere. The main entrees were delicious but the salads were overpriced and underwhelming.
Saw the reviews and decided to try a "local" restaurant. The fried cauliflower appetizer was excellent. The cheese board is really for drinking wine; something to nibble on while you drink. The food was good but it doesn't make me say, "Gee, when I go back to Charlottesville, we MUST go to the Local." We made reservations well over a month ago and were offered a really undesirable table right next to the foot traffic. Was then seated at a table so that when the balcony door was opened, you got a gust of cold air. It was "good" but won't beat a path to re-visit.
