The food was just OK and the Mother's Day prix-fixe menu was too pricey
Our entire experience at the Maidstone was a complete debacle. Without going into every detail, there were a significant number of frustrating issues: it took an hour (yes one hour) to get a glass of wine, the waiter made passive aggressive comments towards a group of friends who ordered non alcoholic beverages (they don’t drink), we received “free” appetizers as an apology which later showed up on the bill and were given a wide variety of non-sensical excuses as to why it took 2+ hours to get entrees.
Since the remodel, the Maidstone isn't the same. The quality of the food and just about everything else has dropped. Also: good luck finding a spot in the parking lot.
Our first time eating here and won’t be our last... excellent food, service and atmosphere...
Very nice ambiance, cozy atmosphere, great service an original... great porch with furry seats... will be back....
We had a wonderful lunch to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Our server was delightful and attentive. She made the experience extra enjoyable with her pleasant demeanor. Most of us chose the daily specials which were all delicious. The warm buns were well worth ruining ones diet. The cappuccino and warm bread pudding were delectable as well. The renovation to The Maidstone created a warm and inviting yet fresh ambiance. I look forward to my next visit!
My partner and I were in East Hampton for an impromptu vacation weekend during the winter. I found a last minute reservation at the Maidstone & was so pleased with the find. The food was really good, the ambiance was chic, and we were treated well overall. We would definitely dine here again!
I requested a quiet table and got a very noisy table next to a party of 8. Service was slow and not very attentive. They have changed the menu significantly, and not for the better. All in all, a disappointing experience for someone who had been a big fan of this restaurant.
Waitstaff extremely unprofessional. They were not taught that it is rude to keep reaching over the table in front of a person sitting. They continually were banging into the chairs that was closest to the pathway to the kitchen. Food was mediocre. We've been there at other quiet, mid-week times and it was very good. This visit was Saturday night of President's weekend. They were packed but there was only one valet attendant. We had to wait twenty minutes in pouring rain for our car. It is apparent they can't handle a holiday weekend.
Lori and her wait staff were very kind, warm and inviting. Food was delicious and cocktails were great. Would definitely recommend.
Good atmosphere (although it was better before renovations.) Service was excellent. Food good, but portions were uneven.
What a great date night except for the young couple that was fighting all night long. Or should I say, female was lecturing loudly to her male mate about all his faults. We heard every one. So annoying, but the restaurant can't help that nor are they responsible. They sat us in front of the fireplace and it was so cozy and romantic. Service was extremely attentive and not intrusive. The food was delicious! Will go back when we get a chance. Hopefully, the fighting guests would have broken up and won't be staying at the inn.
Had a cozy seat by the fireplace, service was great, terrific waiter and friendly staff. The orecchiette pasta was a favorite, looking forward to our next visit!
Great weekend stay at The Maidstone. Considerate service, limited dinner menu but all done really well. We had a interesting wine from Portugal and up the stairs we went to our room! Hamptons in the wintertime is the best.
Such a lovely treat-rooms, dining, food, drink, and staff....LOVELY!
We went on a Saturday night in December. It was noisy. Our table was nice, but it was right next to the waiters station and they were running back and forth past us all night long. The calamari were dry and too salty. The kale side was way too salty. We expected a nice upscale inn, but the food was mediocre at best.
They served us toast and not bread. They ran out of wine.
The service was atrocious. We had a 4:30 reservation and were seated at 5:15 and did not get our main course until after 7:30. Staff seemed totally disorganized. The soup course was cold as well.
Thanksgiving dinner was so delicious really enjoyed it!
my husband and I were out east for our anniversary. It was a Thursday night and very quiet but perfect for a cold night in November. Had great cocktails in the lounge by the fire before dining in the main dining room. A perfect evening.
We were gifted a room at the hotel and meandered downstairs for brunch in the sunroom.
Very friendly staff, had to stop asking them to refill my coffee. Brunch was a farmhouse omelette with squash and cheddar with fries. Gotta have the fries! HUGE bowl. Luckily the hotel has bikes to wear off the calories.
I hadn't eaten here since they were featuring a Swedish menu a few years ago. It has changed. Now there are very few choices and the ones there are, are pretty basic. Chicken, beef, fish. I had the chicken - listed as a half chicken roasted crisp. I only got the white meat so I was disappointed, but it was very tender and juicy - perfectly cooked, but way over-salted. The beet salad was good. My friend had a burger ordered medium rare - it was a nice big burger with cheese, but woefully overcooked. The desert was a mystery - an odd flavored ice cream (coconut something?) with caramel sauce and a brownie. The ice cream was ok; the caramel was good, but the brownie was terrible. It is too bad this wonderful Inn dining room isn't a top spot to eat out here - it should be. In fact it is strange there are no really great restaurants in the "Hamptons".
The food was wonderful. Local in season - we enjoyed the Montauk Halibut so much!
We had a late reservation and pretty much had the place to ourselves...
Had a great experience and would absolutely return
I have always enjoyed dining at the Maidstone Arms Inn throughout the years, but my dinner this past weekend was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The quirky, cozy atmosphere of what was formerly The Living Room has been replaced with what could almost be called a dining room in a college fraternity house. The noise level is so high that one of my guests suggested that the staff hand out noise-cancelling headphones before seating people. We had a corner table in what is arguably the quietest spot in the room, and still could not hear one another without screaming. We were miserable.
The service also could not have been worse. Our server was adorable, but this evening was clearly his first day of his first job, and he was operating with zero training. He did not know the menu at all, didn't know the difference between Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and made no apologies for the multitude of mistakes. When asked if the scallop appetizer could be made larger into an entree sized portion, he said yes..two scallops arrived as the entree.
I could go on, but I don't want to re-live the experience any longer.
I rarely write reviews, but I wanted to warn anyone considering eating at this restaurant to beware, and definitely bring ear plugs!
fOOD DELIVERED WAS TEPID WHEN SUPPOSEDLY WAS TO BE A HOT MEAL. fOR $18.00 A DISH WAS SERVED WITH ABOUT 4 TABLESPOONS OF PASTA. THEN SUBSTITUTED FOR 2 SCALLOPS FOR $22.00 THAT WAS TASTY.
MY FRIEND HAH A TASTLESS CHICKEN BREAST.
mENU WAS LIMITTED.
THIS USED TO BE A SPOT FOR WONDERFUL FOOD THAT WAS EXPENSIVE BUT ONE I OFTEN CHOSE FOR DINNER. NOT AGAIN.
First time in East Hampton for the film festival and snagged a table here.
Lot's of celebrities in every corner of the room. The photography collection on the walls is fantastic. We had a duck special and the cavatelli both really good. Affordable wine list. Staff friendly but acoutics need help.
Scallop app excellent, haddock excellent, salmon just OK. Very good wine list. Fireplace nice on a cool night, noise was terrible in dining room, couldn't talk at all. Price a bit high but not unexpected.
Acoustics spoiled the evening out. Maidstone needs to get that fixed!
Service was inconsistent and unprofessional. Almost all patrons in the dining room were complaining about some aspect of their experience while we were dining.
The lobster rolls were very short on lobster. Several diners including us were brought small ramekins with extra lobster mixture when we complained. From the comments of our server it seemed that the kitchen staff prepared them expecting complaints. Given the $26 price it was very disappointing.
Brunch was not good. Was really disappointed that we didn't have a great experience. Food took over 45 minutes as did drinks. Coffee was cold and not fresh. Food was not seasoned and parts were cold. Waiter was new but manager saw that we were having issues and no one came over to apologize or try and help. Beautiful space and dinner previously was great so confused why brunch was so off. Hopefully they pull it together soon.
We hadn't been to the Maidstone in a couple of years and we were all pleasantly surprised by the presentation and quality of our meals. We were disappointed with the crudités. We misread menu and thought we ordered crudo.
Will definitely go back!
This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The hostess was either drunk or stoned. We checked in. She had our name. An hour later when we weren't seated and asked why she said "I didn't know you were here". Yet she had checked us in! The place was mass chAos. The hostess dropped and broke a glass. She Must be the owners wife because there is no way this woman should have been doing this job. I used to love this place. Won't be coming back. An abomination.
We got married at the hotel three years ago and decided to spend our anniversary night there. I mentioned this in my open table reservation and also posted it on Instagram, tagging the Hotel (they saw it because they liked the post). No one wished us a happy anniversary or acknowledged the occasion. The service was bad - we waited too long for drinks and food. Memories of a beautiful night were diminished by a bad experience.
Waiting for almost 45 minutes for the waiter to return. They literally served dinner and never came back. No water or wine refill, no "how's your meal", no clearing of plates or the courtesy of asking about coffee or desert. I went to the host twice to request the check and still waited. Dishonest people would have just left, but we waited, and waited, and waited, and finally were able to pay and leave.
$100 p/p meal deserves the courtesy of service.
We reserved for dinner at the bar and had a wonderful experience.
The popovers are incredible! The menu was smaller than I expected but the hostess mentioned a transition to a fall menu soon. Staff very accomodating. Left my credit card at the bar and the restaurant called and offered to drop it off at our hotel on the way home.
A return visit to the restaurant finds the prices much softer and the staff more professional. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner without all the summer chaos. Enjoyed the food even though the popovers came out during our appetizers not before. Staff apologetic and sent a cookie plate for the snafu. We'll be back.
The Maidstone is one of the loveliest restaurants in East Hampton. The ambiance is five-star and despite the "energetic" sound levels that would ordinarily keep me away, I definitely recommended dinner there. The menu has made good strides since they changed it from Swedish to creative local. The generous servings were creative and well presented.
The layout seemed to cause problems for the staff. The dining room is narrow with a single pathway for travel in and out of the kitchen. There were frequent traffic jams preventing the staff from getting orders submitted. Jams occurre at times from patrons, at other times from servers taking orders from the main pathway instead of off to the side. There was only one parking attendant trying to park cars on a busy weekend. This caused a bit of confusion from patrons leaving the restaurant. The food was top notch however
We enjoyed the Maidstone very much. The food was excellent and the ambiance was wonderful. The service was a little slow, but not so much that it was a big problem. Would definitely go back again.
