The Lazy Goat Ratings and Reviews
We really enjoyed the Lazy Goat. This was our first visit to Greenville and friends had recommended it. For appetizers, I had hummus with warm pita and carrots and cucumber, which was very good and my husband had a Mediterranean salad with olives, squid, some big beans and herbs and spices. Both were excellent. The salad, especially. It was plated very attractively and delicious! We split the paella for the main dish and it was also excellent. A great experience and we would definitely go back.
Tried The Lazy Goat on Sunday. Love Soby's - expected and wanted to love The Lazy Goat. The service was fine, but the food was average, at best. We ordered a selection of the charcuterie. Nothing was amazing. Everything tasted "pre-sliced" as if from the grab and go section of the grocery store. It was nothing special. The paella was good. The pizza was just ok. The salad was fine. Soby's never disappoints. This was a disappointment of a "sister" restaurant.
Lazy Goat was the choice for our family Thanksgiving. It was not a disappointment. The setting was perfect. My grandchildren 2 and 4 were welcomed and happy. The buffet was plentiful with well chosen and diverse selections. Out server, Laura, was wonderful. She assisted in suggesting wines for the meal. She was very knowledgeable, efficient and courteous. Our meal was a lovely dining experience.
We really enjoyed their Thanksgiving Buffet. It wasn't a large buffet, but everything we tasted was delicious. The turkey was carved to order and was moist and tender. I loved their bread dressing as it tasted like the PA dressing that I'm used to. We sat right next to the window so we had a great view of the river.
What a wonderful Thanksgiving buffet! The turkey was moist and flavorful and the salmon was perfect! The selection of sides was a great combination of flavor and texture and all presented beautifully. The view of the river on a beautiful sunny day was exquisite! What a great way to kick off the holiday season. Thanks also for the polite and attentive waiters. Great experience!
2 of the meals were cold when they were brought to the table. The restaurant did the right thing and remade the food and didn’t charge us for desert. Despite this it was a little disappointing as The Lazy Goat has been one our favorite restaurants in recent years. We will definitely be eating there again though, so no harm done
The main problem we had at lazy goat was how the steak was prepared. One of the steaks was ordered well done. Besides taking an unusually long time for food to be finished (several empty tables in the restaurant) the steak was prepared a little more done than medium but not quite medium well. The food runner set the plates down so fast not giving us time to cut into our steaks let alone time to approve the done-ness. Of course after it was discovered, it was too late to tell anyone. Our server got seated a large table so after ten minutes of us sitting and eating nothing waiting for someone to look our way, the steak was returned to the kitchen to cook longer. Mine was taken back to sit under the heat lamp to keep it warm while we waited. When it came back it was more done but still had pink. It wasn’t worth it at this point to send it back. We were offered dessert on the house but nothing seemed appealing so our appetizer was deducted from the bill.
Anytime a steak is taken to a table, time should be given for the guest to cut the steak to nod his/her approval. So much frustration could’ve been avoided if this simple minute had been taken.
We went for my birthday and I was sooo excited, but ultimately I was let down. Our server was wonderful, but that was really the only good part about the visit. The food took forever, sweet potatoes were under-cooked, and the area we sat was just no good. I don't know if they are no longer seating on the downstairs level, but if you get sat upstairs, I'd leave. It's entirely too loud and it felt empty. We could hardly have a conversation with each other for the acoustics.
If you are going to visit, wait until the summer and sit on the patio. Such a fun scene out there.
Was looking forward to lunch based on reviews. We went on a Friday, restaurant was not crowded. Had a table by the window- the setting is lovely. But that was the highlight. Meal was disappointing. Portions were small especially for the price. French press coffee was good. And one final note- when we arrived a young man greeted us. Said he would get menus and walk us downstairs to our table. But before he did that, he placed a green trash bag in a small trash can near the desk - this couldn’t wait until his patrons were seated? We actually stood there waiting while he did that. Would not recommend this place. Too many other great choices in Greenville
The Lazy Goat is consistently wonderful. The food is inventive without being off-putting -- people with adventurous palates and people who like to play it safe will all find something to love. The service is just wonderful: attentive but not intrusive. And the setting is gorgeous with its Reedy River overlook.
Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. The ambience was lively and everyone seemed happy to be there. Unfortunately, the food was unreliable. My Morrocan lamb was okay, and the Brussels sprouts we're fantastic, as was my friend's cream soup. However, my husband could eat neither his falafel salad nor the fried goat cheese balls. We won't be returning.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable.
We recently celebrated a birthday at The Lazy Goat. We were seated at the window with a fabulous view of the river and riverwalk; the beautiful view set the ambience for the evening. I ordered the grouper and the birthday boy ordered the scallops. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and plated well for a great presentation. For dessert, we shared panna cotta and a french press. Delicious - from beginning to end!
From the fried goat cheese appetizer (one of several different starters and entrees selected) to the pork tenderloin with Moroccan couscous, sultanas, Parmesan creamed local squashes and cardamon-honey glaze, we over-ordered and over-ate. A thoroughly delightful, and quite diverse, meal served by an attentive waitress. Now if someone had just thrown a "noise" shield over the group of rowdy businessmen to our rear, this would have been a five-star experience at a very modest price.
