The Laughing Gravy
Relaxed and inviting, we offer an incredible menu of fresh, seasonal dishes with a well-chosen wine list that reflects our attention to detail.
Occupying the ground floor of an original foundry building, the restaurant, which is in walking distance from both the Old and Young Vic, seats up to 50 diners and has a buzzy bar.

Delicious roast lunch at The Laughing Gravy - between us we had the chicken, lamb and beef and they were all excellent.
Thank you so much.
Amazing service, food and drinks. Love it! Thank you
Lovely meal again at the laughing gravy would recommend if anyone is in the area. Last night service was very slow but the meal very tasty. Be prepared to pay a bit more for it though!
Brilliant experience from start to finish. We were offered the opportunity to eat either inside or outside. We were quickly provided with "old fashioned" paper menus when I was struggling with the APP (so if you prefer these do ask!). Service was impeccable and very patient with our slow decision making. The food was absolutely delicious. It was very quiet, perhaps owing to its location and it being a weekend. Definitely hope to return.
Fantastic food, excellent service. Staff were friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. Lovely atmosphere.
Returned to The Gravy for the first time since October and all 4 of us (2 adults and 2 teens) loved it. Food beautifully presented and delicious, staff very friendly and very relaxed environment. Small independent restaurants like this really stand out to me these days as the kind of place that I want to visit and enjoy.
We got to the Laughing Gravy late so, unfortunately, we’re fairly rushed. However, the croissant pudding was outstanding. Ticked every box for me!
Amazing food and service, would recommend to anyone (especially the Wellington!)
Starter was disappointing, main courses very good, and desert average.
Food was great as always, so nice to be back in restaurants again.
Welcoming little restaurant, nice atmosphere, food good presentation and delicious. The salted caramel sticky toffee desert was memorable topped with good service.
The best sunday roast south of the river! - and more besides. Delicious food served by friendly and attentive staff with good wines too. As for the gravy, well it's so tasty you should ask for a spoon to take up every last drop.
I hadn't been for a few years but have always loved this place and it still does not disappoint!
Sunday roast was nice🍽
Food was incredible and service was fab! Perfect spot for a romantic date night!
Laughing Gravy is London's best restaurant. Also Londons best kept secret!!!!
Wonderful, as always. So pleased to have the Laughing Gravy back. Food and wine were superb as was the service without ever being obtrusive. A wonderful gem, much missed for the past year.
Brilliant service from the moment we walked through the door. Great Sunday roast
Amazing food and attentive service as always - it really is all about the gravy!
If you want a proper restaurant experience but don't like a) snooty staff, b) tiny portions, or c) dining in a museum, go to the Laughing Gravy and relax, enjoy good service, great food and a friendly atmosphere. Been a regular patron of it for nearly ten years and it has never disappointed.
Have eaten at this restaurant at least seven times over the last several years, and will do again. Fantastic restaurant and would recommend it with hesitation. And as a London Taxi Driver... I have to customers who have asked for a recommendation for a restaurant in the SE1 area.
I decided to take my son to TLG for a birthday meal having not been for a couple of years. It was as if it had only been a few weeks ago. The staff, the atmosphere and the food were exactly as before; friendly, cool, decent value and very tasty. We had a great evening and I'll certainly be back. Thanks guys!
A fabulous Sunday Roast - better than my Mum's so it must be the best
We had a lovely time at The Laughing Gravy. The food was delicious and just the right side of being pretentious. Highly recommend the venison wellington! The service is slick and unobtrusive. The waitress was a delight and recommended we go back and try the Sunday roast. We’ll be back don’t worry! Thank you for a lovely evening
A fantastic meal, lovely service and an all round excellent celebration. This restaurant always delivers!
Great food, service and atmosphere - a great local restaurant - the venison Wellington is just delicious!
Food was superb, cocktails delicious. The service was very good.
We had a great Sunday roast at the laughing gravy. The food and cocktails were delicious, the staff were very attentive and there was a good ambience in the beautiful space. Thoroughly recommend and we’ll be back!
Thank you Laughing Gravy for another excellent evening out. It was so nice to be able to eat out again even with Tier 2 restrictions.
The food was so good and the Rum and Raisin Old Fashions were delicious.
We look forward to seeing you in the not too distant future.
Fantastic Roast Beef and very attentive service. It felt like having your family roast but with cooking that was hundreds of times better.
Comfortable, Bijou restaurant with friendly staff, lovely menu and delicious cocktails!
Delicious food. The venison Wellington is particularly tasty. Lovely cozy atmosphere. Super friendly staff. Gorgeous cocktails.
What a brilliant find! We were at Tate modern and wanted to avoid the touristy spots. The Laughing Gravy is a 10 minute walk (or thereabouts) from the Tate, and it is definitely worth the walk. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the pesto Mac and Cheese is a must for any vegetarian in the family. Opt for the sea bass if you would like to try the fish option. Portions are generous - remember to save room for their delicious desserts.
Consistently one of the best places to eat in Southwark - the experience from the front door and onwards through all the great food and drink is just really excellent.
Sunday lunch was fabulous and felt very safe with the covid-19 procedures they had in place.
I’ll definitely be going back.
Thank you Laughing Gravy!
Enjoyable evening, great ambience and indoor decor.
Excellent food in lovely surroundings. Especially enjoyed the starters and cocktails!
Meal For One: If you want an delicious Sunday roast with that touch of class this is the place. The beef was absolutely beautiful, Tasty and fantastic quality. Portion size was spot on. I highly recommend a side order of truffle chips, Thanks for a beautiful Sunday lunch.
Usually I give 5 out of 5 as we have eaten here many times. This time however I had a very over-cooked ribeye. They were very apologetic and replaced it with a delicious one. I do not think they should have even used the first one as it was only about 5mm thick and not what I would expect from a steak in a good restaurant. With it being so thin cooking it medium rare is tricky also. The other issue was the bread rolls which were heated up (which I would expect, I don't expect them to be baked fresh as that would be impractical) but the were not completely heated through and were compact, cold and a bit dry in the middle almost as if they had been frozen then heated up but not properly, or were too old and inadequately heated up, I'm not sure which. Really surprised at that. Everything else was great including wonderful service.
The Laughing Gravy is a regular for special occasion and always have a great experience. The service is really good with friendly staff. Can’t say enough about how good the food is, the Venison Wellington was excellent and all the deserts are fantastic. Highly recommend for either a special occasion or a relaxing dinner with friends.
