    We love The Ivy group of restaurants and dine at our local branch every weekend. As a special birthday treat we decided to spend the day in London and have dinner at the Ivy Market Grill. What a huge mistake and disappointment. We left this place after just a glass of wine. Other Ivys has a sense of glamour and theatre which makes the dining experience special. This place shocked us at first sight of the interior. Drab, gloomy, poorly lit and generally scruffy - nothing like we had become accustomed to. We opted for a seat at the bar. The counter was dirty and we had to request a wipe down. The wine I chose was “sold out” so we were forced to order something else. A couple seated next to us at the bar had been casually handling the cutlery laid out for them. They were escorted to a table. After they left the barman straightened up the fingered cutlery, did not wipe down the surface and left their half finished drinks on the bar for at least 10 minutes. We weren’t offered water so we commandeered what looked like an untouched carafe (chipped and grubby) along from us and used that. In our local Ivy the bar is immaculate and a pleasure to sit at. This bar was strewn with half empty glasses, a collection of bottles of tonic, coke etc that were presumably there to be recycled for the next unsuspecting drinker. Oh and in addition to this we were confronted with the view of a container of WD40 on the bar (?!). No senior waiter to keep up cleanliness and service standards. Staff were uninterested and zombie Iike. We were quite close to the kitchen and every time the doors were kicked open by staff the foul stench of fish past it’s best hit us. Quite nauseating. After around 20 minutes I decided we couldn’t celebrate a birthday here but as a loyal Ivy devotee I wanted to register my disappointment with someone. From the reaction I gathered we weren’t the first to complain. How this place can be a part of the Ivy group is beyond me.

    Food standards have slipped here. The chicken was dry and the salad had so much dressing you couldn't see the lettuce.

    My daughter and I had a lovely meal on Sunday. Everything tasted fresh and was nicely presented. Service was nice and polite and they accommodated my table request!

    Steak was extremely over cooked and not good quality either, the Prosecco glass had a chip in and they served Prosecco from our bottle to other people. Then argued with us about the bill when we refused to pay for the Prosecco after we had only had 1.5 glasses from the bottle. Nobody checked on us throughout our meal even though we tried to get their attention to return the steak. Not the usual service for an Ivy sadly.

    We had the exact same meal as we did in Windsor and we were very disappointed I had the blackened cod which was so overcooked it was practically rock hard. My husband had the steak. He said it was ok but wouldn’t have it again.

    A poor experience - poor slow service, warm wine and threatened us if they opened the second bottle and we accepted it they could not take back. Slightly less warm but drank it. Food not hot enough and pretty tasteless. A long way from the Ivy of old. I will not go back.

    Really lovely lunch and good service. We sat outside but the table was small for 5 people so it felt a bit squashed. Nice to be able to sit outside and warm from the heaters

    Food was good. Experience was let down by the service. The drinks were incorrect. The bill was incorrect. The plates were not cleared and we were not checked on during the meal. Left before dessert which was a shame. With more care and attentive service it would have been lovely.

    Nice little treat on a girly break in London. Very nice restaurant for breakfast, food good and plenty of choice, not too pricey for The Ivy either - only grumble is service is a bit slow and they brought our toast (cold) when we were halfway through the breakfast.

    I took 3 guests and was seated in a booth behind a food terminal where staff needed to congregate around as part of their job. However this made the ambience quite claustrophobic. Upon request we were moved to a more suitable table. The service was initially very slow. Waited a long time for our breakfast teas and coffees. I feel that our server was less experienced but once our food order was placed other servers got involved. Several requests were missed and we needed to chase them up. The food was excellent. Just felt the level of service was below expectation.

    Lovely venue, really great position, decor and the atmosphere was really buzzing. Very welcoming staff, however service was very slow- we arrived on time and were seated promptly, but there were considerable gaps between this time, our orders being taken, and then drinks, followed by separate courses arriving. In addition, one of the main courses for one of our group arrived much later than the rest. We all waited for his before we ate ours, so all of our food was not at its best. Whilst it was a nice evening, the delays could not be ignored

    Great looking venue, very busy. Staff looked stressed and acted accordingly. Orders was taken efficiently but we had to request our previously asked for tap water repeatedly. Starters arrived in good time and tasted good. 50 mins between starters and mains. Asked for updates a few time and were told they were on their way. When they did arrive, minus my sons fish & chips, my husbands steak tartare was cooked around the edge and my blackened cod was dry and hard all over (sat under a hot lamb for too long?) My son's meal arrived, fresh and well cooked. I can only imagine that this had been forgotten or dropped maybe which caused the overall delay. We had no time to have replacement dishes as we had an theatre booking to attend. Staff removed my cod from the bill but did not even question why my husband had barely touched his tartare. We will not be returning and would advise others to go elsewhere.

    Pleasant service and delicious food. An added unexpected surprise was at the end of the meal they presented my son with a profiterole and candle as it was his birthday (33). Nice touch.

    As a regular visitor to The Ivy all around the U.K. this was a disappointing experience. Staff were very inattentive and we had to flag down 5 different staff throughout the evening as we were never approached. Wine was taken away to a distant ice bucket and never refilled. Food was dreadful. Chicken breast was split and hammered so flat to appear larger that it was as tough as a boot. Sauce incredibly over salted. ‘Dream’ Dessert was inedible. A tiny brownie wrapped in fried filo pastry with ice cream covered in blue dye? Topped off with sacharine sweet salted caramel sauce. More the stuff of nightmares! One staff member was incredibly rude and dismissive when approached (3rd different person we had asked) to politely let him know we needed to dash off quickly to make the theatre. Telling us that we would have to wait and these things don’t just happen instantly. Had to let him know that we had indeed ordered dessert alongside our mains when seated and followed up several times to no fruition. Staff seemed fraught although there were so many of them it appeared poor management had not allocated certain tables to particular staff so no continuity of service and all quite out of control. Quite a frenzied environment. Sub par experience and a real shame as I have always been a big fan of The Ivy as come to expect quality food in a lovely setting.

    The food was very good. The service was slow. It took ages to be served. Then he would appear and then remember to bring water etc. in fairness, the staff were friendly, but it becomes stressful when you become aware that time is ticking away. In addition, We felt that the tables for two are placed far too close together. We heard everything our neighbours either side said which made us self conscious of our conversation. Even when we ordered, we felt like it was a group chat with the couples either side. Then I ordered a mojito and was overcharged. I only noticed later when I checked the bill. £14! I couldn't even find that price on their menu. It should have been £12.50 which is more than enough. It was the champagne mojito. Then to add insult to injury a 13% surcharge was added to the bill. However, I say again the food was good and the presentation is excellent. We were not happy with the overall feeling we got, especially with so many resteraunt’s to choose from nearby. As regards the question below would we recommend the resteraunt to a friend? It depends. We would, but not without warning them of the issues we had.

    Very poor seating. Either sat underneath the bottom of someone sat at the bar, or underneath the bottoms of five people standing right against the table inside the door. Neither very satisfactory or producing a conducive atmosphere. Nice food, great staff but let down by design.

    Good service, chaos on the front desk, seemed totally disorganised not totally sure what the issue was. Waitress was great, we felt a little rushed, but understood how busy you were. Food was good.

    Restaurant was extremely busy, so though our waiter was very friendly service was a tad slow. Food was delicious. Restaurant was too hot so we didn’t stay for dessert or coffee.. a very quick visit.. Maybe the place to go if you aren’t in a rush!

    A perfect afternoon for my mums birthday celebrations. Our waitress was professional and pleasant. The food was beautiful! We had the set menu, you need to ask for it. We sat on The Terrace. Thank you for a special pre- theatre lunch.
