The Ivy Inn Restaurant
Our menu features locally influenced seasonal American cuisine crafted by our hands-on executive chef, Angelo Vangelopoulos, and his talented team, with inspiration from our incredible local farmers and purveyors. We are located about a mile west of the University of Virginia, in a historic house originally built in the late 1700s.
Wonderful experience well priced and would go back in a heartbeat. Lots of reasons, taking our u va son out for a special dinner one of them!
Wonderful experience. Took the GF for Valentine's day. Food was amazing, priced well, and super friendly service. Would definitely recommend and planning on going again!
A Charlottesville treasure! I LOVE the Ivy Inn! They made my birthday super special and the food was phenomenal!!
We were there for Valentine's Day, the menu was prix fixe for that night. Everything was outstanding with two slight hiccups... our salad course was a little too long in coming, but worth the wait! The room we were seated in was intimate in that it only had four parties of two in it. Unfortunately the people across from us weren't in a romantic mode. The male talked about business the whole time, and the more he talked the more animated and louder he got. Kinda spoiled the tranquility of the room- and of course, I can't lay this at the feet of the restaurant.
I got the quail for my main entree and it was superb; my husband got the tenderloin and it was perfectly prepared. The portions are quite plentiful and the service was subdued and unintrusive- perfect for Valentine's Day. All in all, it was an exceptional evening, but for the non-lovebirds next to us.
I would go back in a heartbeat.
We loved this delicious quaint restaurant. We were traveling through Charlottesville and chose it from the internet reviews. The food, service and ambiance were all outstanding! Our only negative was that we were not informed that there was only a prix fixe menu on Valentines Day. Our waiter was very apologetic and offered to work with us! Perhaps we should have known?! We would absolutely go back again!
Ivy Inn is one of the top restaurants in Cville when it comes to quality of food and the service. The Chicken is a deep sleeper and had unbelievable taste! Highly recommend if looking for a great meal!
The food and service were absolutely the best part. Amazing use of seasoning and local farm to table items. Good vegetarian options. Great wine selections. Super pleasant waitstaff and easy online reservations. The temperature in the restaurant was good. The background music was just right. The old house setting was so nice, and it is great to support the owners' efforts to preserve the heritage.
The upstairs seating was fine for us, but the steep stairs were a slight challenge for an elderly person with arthritis. That should be considered in the online reservation questionnaire or should have asked us on arrival if upstairs seating was okay.
Wife’s birthday dinner was fantastic!
My wife and I had resevations at the Ivy to celebrate our 20th anniversary. The Ivy made it very personal and memorable, The food was outstanding and we would recommend it to anyone, especially those with a special milestone.
Everything about the dinner was great. My husband doesn’t eat beef very often, but he had the sirloin and said it was excellent. I appreciated having the option to order half size vegetarian pasta. It was just right when added to a salad and dessert. We liked the cocktails too. The server, Simon, was perfect. We’ll go again.
Waitress wasn’t friendly or reliable. Had to repetitively ask for butter for the bread and water. Additionally, we ordered two bottles of wine. With both bottles she didn’t refill any glasses. We had to pass and pour ourselves.
Excellent food. We loved each course. The butternut squash-ginger soup was awesome.
My husband and I usually celebrate our anniversary dinner at The Ivy Inn because we enjoy the ambiance, food and service. Our anniversary dinner this year met all our expectations!
For my wife’s birthday the Ivy Inn was perfect. A special menu, a complimentary champagne toast, and chocolate brownies topped it off!
The Ivy Inn is one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville. We went there for our anniversary and it was a pleasurable experience. The staff helped make our night special. The food was outstanding and we’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys a dining experience without loud noise and subdued attention.
Food was amazing! Our server Jason was so fantastic.
Always superb. Food, presentation, service, wine selection....never disappointing.
The Ivy Inn is our favorite Charlottesville restaurant. Every meal is outstanding, the food is impeccable prepared and the service is top notch. Menu is always overflowing with wonderful options. Could not be better!
Great old-home ambiance with a country-French flair; even with a full house, with no visible special acoustics, you can actually have real conversations here. One of our favorites.
Really good food in beautiful quiet surroundings
Wonderful food and service for our anniversary (third time celebrating at the Ivy Inn).
We went to The Ivy for my daughter's birthday and everything about it was awesome. She's under 21 and they brought her a couple mock-tails with the wine we had ordered - very charming! We would 110% go back.
Always the best!
The Ivy Inn Restaurant has excellent food for a very good price. The atmosphere is relaxing and the wait staff is conscientious without being over-present.
We love Ivy Inn. The food is outstanding and creative, the service is excellent and, most of all, it is quiet and you can speak without having to shout. We return to Ivy Inn over and over and all my thoughts about it are positive.
Dining at the Ivy Inn is always a pleasant experience. Farmhouse ambiance and quiet atmosphere is greatly appreciated. Vegetarian options are available and always tasty.
Every course was outstanding.Outstanding food for appropriate price. Worth the extra money for excellently prepared food, from appetizers to desserts.
Service okay. Could have been better. Hostess mediocre and services somewhat clumsy. Waitress was good but not excellent.
Fan in downstairs bathroom needs to be replaced. Way too noisy. Upstairs bathroom much better.
Curtains or partisions in lower left dining room would be an improvement so diners don't have to watch people climbing stairs and entering and exiting restaurant.
Would recommend and dine there again , due to outstanding food and overall quiet noise level. That's hard to find currently.
Food and service were outstanding. It was so quiet I felt like we could not have a conversation more than a whisper.
Angelo consistently serves outstanding food. Oysters Rockefeller, pork belly, shrimp and grits, mushroom medley and lamp chops all highly recommended. Wine list has great American selections with some appropriately priced good options. Our waiter was not up to par but others stepped in.
Excellent food and drink. We will definitely be back.
One of the best restaurants in the entire state. Outstanding in every respect. A true gem!
Traveled to my alma mater for a basketball game and booked dinner before at the Ivy Inn. Server was very careful to get us served in a timely fashion for our scheduled evening yet we never felt rushed. The meal was just wonderful!
Great service and food
Service and food were excellent -- we love this place for date night!
Always fine dining with creative presentations. The bison was excellent.
Salmon was delicious, server was engaging and professional.
Duck with the grits excellent.
The Ivy Inn is our "go to" choice when we have a special occasion or want a nice evening out with friends. Our most recent trip was with a couple friends, and the restaurant didn't disappoint. I would have given 5 stars across the board, but I did feel like our server could have been just a bit more attentive. And, in terms of value...well, we all know the Ivy Inn is not an inexpensive place to eat! You get what you pay for, of course, and it's worth every bit of it! Great job, folks!
We picked The Ivy for our 40th Wedding Anniversary dinner. It was such an enjoyable evening. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Hats off to the Chef, the meal was fabulous. It was all and all just a great evening!
The Ivy inn came highly recommended from my work colleagues- and it didn’t disappoint! Amazing pre-fix menu for New Years Eve! My husband flew in and it was an amazing night! Friendly staff - overall scored high for us especially as we come from Chicago! ❤️❤️
3rd time to dine at Ivy Inn for New Year's Eve. The service and food were excellent. We will definitely return.
