The Island House Restaurant
Our award-winning, signature crab cake. Simply the best!
Plump and juicy shrimp fried to a delicious golden brown
Succulent fried oysters topped with lettuce and tomato on a fresh kaiser roll
Blake takes great care of his customers. Service was beyond superb for New Year's Eve.
My flounder was great and the garlic green beans were addictive.
Food was good but not hot enough. Friendly and attentive staff.
We reserved for Saturday night 8:30 PM on OpenTable and when we arrived the restaurant was "dark:, no one inside. Closed up. No notification. No notice. A waste of time to drive there and back. Went to Mallards in Onancock instead.
Hey Matt- Unfortunately we experienced a power outage the night of your reservation forcing us to shut down. To make things worse, our battery backup failed that night as well leaving us immediately completely in the dark. Unfortunately for you but fortunately for us you were our last reservation for the night or we would have had many more unhappy customers. We have since replaced our battery backup and sincerely apologize for your experience.
Bartender Carol gave grat recommendations and service. I was lucky to get the last bowl of homemade chowder -- one of the best I've ever had (second only to Doc's Oyster House in Atlantic City). Off the beaten path and right on the water, Island House was a nice escape from the highway of life.
Loved it-dinner was great, manager stopped by the table and chatted about the area! Will be back soon.
Food great as always staff perfect venue clean and well done
Beautiful location, friendly service, lovely ambience, great value. [Staff @ gift shop in front was absent would have been ideal to make this restaurant in time for sunset on the water.
Our 2nd time here and it was just as great as we remembered!
Came to the restaurant after traveling and were pleased to find such a welcoming place. The service was attentive, the views spectacular (came at sunset) and the food was fabulous. We shared the Hand Prepared Calamari and Steamed Shrimp as the appetizer and shared the Baked Seafood Combo. Then had a slice of berry cake for dessert. Overall a superb evening!
I have been to the Island House several times and previously it has been a pleasant dining experience. However, last Sunday was unlike previous visits in every possible way. We made reservations and placed in an unfavorable table setting; poor view with A/C vents blowing directly under table . The waitress did not approach table for over 15 minutes and it took 45 min to get our entrees. When asked where the bread was, they then informed us it wasn’t available that night. I ordered linguine and clams/smoked oysters. It was filled with gritty sand and completely awful.
Really hesitate to repeat this experience. Hope this was a one time disaster because I reaalyrnjoy the setting.
The freshest fish, friendly efficient service and don’t forget to order the locally made layer cake!
This is a good restaurant. The fried or Easters were great and the crab cake was good. We sat on the deck and watch the boats come in. Would definitely go back again.
The attendant at the welcome center on the Eastern shore recommend at this location to us
I've enjoyed every meal I've had at The Island House. Delicious food, great service and beautiful view.
We visited while vacationing in the area. We loved everything...the food, the service, the view and the atmosphere. We would definitely visit again.
The chicken Wachapreague was awesome. Would drive back just to eat it again. Crab dip was on par as well. Crab cake and steak were disappointing.
Great place to relax, beautiful views, zealous staff. Fantastic cocktails.
Will be back
Very clean and super polite staff. Overall great experience
Food was fine. The view is nice. But watch the service. Very slow. We waited a long time to order dessert, too long, and ended up not ordering.
Both my wife and I had the broiled crab cakes which were excellent. Had a great water view from our table. Server was very professional yet very friendly.
We really enjoyed ourselves at Island House. The food was great. Our server was super! The view from our table by the window was awesome! We plan to go back again.
We always take out of town friends and clients to the Island House. The views of the wetlands and barrier islands are breathtaking. Late afternoon, the patio is in shade and there was a light breeze, so we sat outside. The service is always top-notch and the seafood is fantastic. They start you off with a warm sweet potato biscuit while you peruse the menu. We all had different seafood platters and everyone loved their dish. Lots of different sides to go along with dinner. When we first sat down, we thought the music was a little loud and mentioned it, and they turned it down right away. The owner came over to our table to check on us; how amazing is that?! Just a perfect, perfect evening.
Always a great experience, we go there often and bring our friends.
This restaurant was worth our 2 hour drive. Parking can be a challenge. Seating was quick. Service was good. Food was very good however their Crème Brûlée recipe needed some serious improvement. I consider myself a Crème Brûlée connoisseur and what they served was nothing short of a boring lack of flavor vanilla pudding with a caramalized sugar topping. The flavor was boring, boring, boring. I even left 1/4 of it behind and I always finish my desserts unless they are less than up to snuff. Everything else was really good. I do plan on returning and hope the Crème Brûlée recipe improves.
My first time here! Recently moved to the Shore! Will definitely come back for the delicious food and great service!
Dinner was very enjoyable. Glad that we were on the early side as it is a very popular place.
Best part of our meal was our sunny and competent waitress, Cindy.
Although this restaurant is located in a very small town, we found it a worthwhile drive from Cape Charles. My flounder with new potatoes and green beans was delicious. My husband enjoyed his crab cakes. We both thought the sweet potato biscuits were scrumptious!!!!! Our waitress and all of the staff were welcoming and responsive. We sat outside to enjoy the view over the wetlands and water. So relaxing!!
Great fried flounder and crabcakes. View was pretty. Definitely going back
Really enjoyed it! Sat on patio, wonderful service and the food was quite good! Very reasonably priced! Highly recommended.
Beautiful setting and very good food. We had the oysters on half shell, the wedge salad, the garlic clams and the fish and chips.
The Clams and oysters were perfect. The steamed garlic clams were outstanding and we recommend them highly. The wedge salad was done with Romaine, so it was a bit bitter, but nicely done. The fish and chips were very good, but I was a little taken aback when asked what we wanted for our two sides. Chips I was guessing should be one...right? My wife ordered one of their specialty drink and our waitress looked at her as if she was from Mars. She had no knowledge of the properties drink menu and it did make my wife feel rather foolish to have to pint it out for her on the menu.
The room was beautifully set right on the water. The early lunch crowd was small until a group of about 20 people from a motorcycle riding group came in and conducted a meeting (complete with standing Pledge of Allegiance) in the middle of the dining room. It did seem to me a private area should have been found for them and this did distract from the otherwise very nice lunch we had.
Worst crab cake ever. All filler. Highly overpriced for what you get.
one order was wrong, and two were slightly over cooked. unsure if the third order was right as well. 2 cooks were out and they were busy, but I was disappointed as the food has been better in the past.
Owners of the B&B we stayed at in Cape Charles told us this was their favorite place to eat. We see why. The marsh views are spectacular, there is an outside deck, the service is great and the food is fresh and flavorful. We have never had fresher flounder, or thicker. We loved the option to have our food broiled.
Awesome dinner-Crab Imperial was outstanding!
Enjoyed the rolls--yummy! A great ending to a busy week!
Excellent, as always. Fish always excellent. Service excellent, cannot fault
this place. Good portions and great value for money.
We always have awesome experience eating here. The staff are nice and friendly. The food is exceptional!
Took friends who know the shore but had never been to Wachapreague. Said best crab cakes ever!
The "platter" with flounder and crabcake were served with very small portion. They were out of the special sauce (which is why I ordered the crabcake) at 5:30 on a Saturday night! They make the sauce onsite?
Our table was at an exterior wall with three AC ducts in the wall. It was freezing and very uncomfortable.
Small portions, freezing legs, no sauce and pretty steep pricing. Go elsewhere.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Happily accommodated my dietary needs.
The view at The Island House is always a great treat, but more importantly the ISLAND HOUSE CREW continues to provide very good food, served by a friendly team of servers.
We recently joined a large group of friends at The Island House, and everyone was pleased with their meals, especially the fresh flounder.
The Smith Island Cake was also very popular with the desert gang. Great friendly service & everyone happy, and a very nice ending to our Memorial Day Weekend.
