We did not realize that Brookville Inn was doing renovations, however, they were open for Mother's Day brunch with a buffet. The food and service were great but we were expecting to order from a menu and not a buffet. Our initial reservation was cancelled but they told us they had to cancel and rebook us due to "rearrangement of tables" - and did not tell us they were doing renovations. It would have been nice to know what was going on before we got there but otherwise it was good.
Restaurant was closed for renovations but neglected to inform OpenTable. Even got a confirmation email (and follow-ups like this asking how much I "Enjoyed" my dining experience.
I will never go to the Brookeville Inn again. Chaffed that my Saturday night dining experience was ruined because they couldn't block reservations from occurring while their closed.
We for Christmas Eve dinner thought we were getting cozy farm style night. Server was over worked with no help 2 managers that watch her and food took an hour per course to come out 2 chicken meals were not cooked they were raw would never ever ever go back especially for $65 a head.
We have frequented this restaurant over the years for special occasion dinners or Sunday Brunch. I have also booked private parties. It is apparent that the chef and perhaps ownership has changed significantly since summer. The menu was limited and the food mediocre.
Food was good but service was not good. We, a party of 4, waited over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The waitress was very nice and apologetic. A large holiday party was in progress; hence the delay. However, since we had a reservation and the large party was clearly booked in advance, I would think that the staff should have been prepared. Our dessert was gratis - as it should have been. This was my third time here - I might return but my friends won't.
We came for Thanksgiving dinner and found out that there would be a buffet. We were pleased with the menu. Two (2) family members do not eat meat but were very satisfied with the salmon, salads, and other side dishes. The food was delicious and seasoned perfectly. The servers were very attentive as well as the other staff. Our familys name was on a placard and placed on our table wishing us a Happy Thanksgiving. Yes, we overate because the food was so good. There other large diverse groups but all situations were handled professionally and efficiently. This was our first time there and we were very impressed. Good Job Inn at Brookeville Farms!!!
We have done Thanksgiving at the Inn at Brookeville Farm for the last 5 years. Every year previously, it's been a formal sit down dinner with full table service. It was a relaxed atmosphere in which you could spend time with your dinner companions and really enjoy the dining experience.
This year it was a buffet and, although not our preference, we decided to give it a try. Big mistake. The atmosphere was hectic and we spent most of the meal fetching and carrying food from the buffet to the table. There were 3 in our party and, for most of the time, we were not at the table together. Instead of a leisurely dinner with time to converse and enjoy the holiday together, we were back and forth to the buffet. The meal took about half the time of previous years and everyone felt rushed. The food wasn't nearly as good as past years and several items were cool rather than hot.
I don't know what would cause the change in format from a formal sit down dinner to a buffet but I'd strongly recommend the Inn at Brookeville Farm return, at least for holiday events like Thanksgiving, to a formal style of dining. I know we will not book for next Thanksgiving if the presentation will be buffet style...it's too casual and totally detracts from a festive holiday event.
We sat down and there were no napkins on the table- I asked for them. We sat for 15 minutes before the waitress came over and asked if we wanted an app, we told her and she she said very quickly "let me go put them in" and quickly left, still no napkins or bread, or drink. A young girl came over and poured water I asked her for a drink and soda, and again napkins. App came, my husband asked for bread and was told at this point okay, he replied he wanted butter and was told by the young girl "don't worry". Still no napkins so I got up and gave them off the several empty tables next to us. We were given one roll, we ate and waited for waitress to take our entree order. Finally, waitress cam running over and we told her what we wanted. Food arrived and the meat wa so tough a that we couldn't Ben chew the slow roasted beef! We also were only given a butter knife. The came back by and I told her we needed a steak knife. One would had thought they would give a stark knife, anyway the waitress asked how it was and we told her it as so tough we could not chew it or cut. The table shook when we attempted to try to cut the meat. Chewing it was an ordeal and we did not eat it. The waitress did take off the meals and gave us a free flan. Of note, this waitress was also the one behind the bar serving drinks,taking orders, and getting food from the kitchen. We suspected that she may of even cooks the food! This place use to be top notch service and food so we are not sure what happen. The goat cheese app was supposed to be severe warm and it wasn't but we were hungry and ate it. Would not recommend based on this visit and one other visit last year in which we gave them a poor review ourself. People are better off to the Comus Inn.
Top local elegant dining option. Visited for dinner on wife's birthday Sunday. Surprisingly few patrons at 7:00. Able to converse easily across conversation of party in next room. Reasonably attentive but not hovering service, but a bit of a wait for staff attention upon arrival. Good soup and entree, half of which I took home and enjoyed the next day. Expect to return for other special occasions.
Had been meaning to visit this restaurant--and recently dined here for the first time. Um, will NOT be coming back! The restaurant is lovely inside, and I imagine that it would be nice place to have an "event," like a wedding reception. However, just to go here for a meal? Wouldn't advise it! My partner and I ate here on a Saturday night, and the place was nearly empty, which should have given us a clue. The waitress, while nice, seemed very timorous. The service was fine, though. The food was mediocre and forgettable--AND expensive. There aren't a lot of great eating options in the Olney area--and "The Inn" gets added to the "Don't Bother" list, unfortunately.
The server was terrific. However, the food is a different matter. I was there for brunch with a friend and ordered the quiche Lorraine. The server advised me that it would be at least a 20 minute wait since it was just put in the oven. Which is puzzling since they open at 10:30 and by the time the server came, it was at least close to 11. I ordered the herb frittata instead. It was very over salted.
I was very disappointed in the food. I ordered New York Steak and Eggs. The steak was a small, very tough piece of meat, difficult to chew, and had an unpleasant taste. The eggs were cooked adequately, but looked unattractive and tasted as if they were stale (an unpleasant taste).
The new chef has some amazing dishes. He came out and let us try a few items he is putting on the menu. The beef wellington was perfect and his version of chicken scalopinni was wonderful. We have been here a few times now and always have a quality experience
There was a wedding happening in the main area which gave fun background noise since there was no music playing throughout the restaurant. We were the only ones in the part of the restaurant we sat in. The server was very timid and though we were her only table she mixed up two of the meals when serving them. She did give us an additional cheese that we didn't order which ended up being one of our favorites so that was a treat. Overall the food was good. My husband and our friend got the beef Wellington that was cooked perfectly, well worth the price. Chef sides that evening were mash potatoes and a medley of squash, green beans, and carrots were mediocre at best. Lobster tail was large and moist. I personally had the chicken which was very good and a large portion.
Brought my girl friend for a weekday lunch date. Arrived around 1:30, so the place was mostly empty. The waitress seemed a bit nervous and inexperienced, unsure about what to do, specials, that sort of thing. The menu choices were a bit narrow and my date didn't really see much to her liking, but found something close enough. The ambiance is great. I really liked the colonial-style decor. Food was good to very good. Wish they had a beer selection from any of the local micro-breweries. The grounds and the views were great.
A lunch there on Mother's Day was excellent in all regards, and we looked forward to a return visit and introducing friends to the restaurant.
Unfortunately, the second visit, a Saturday dinner in August, was a major disappointment. Our calamari appetizer arrived in reasonable time and was okay. But we waited such a long time for entrees that the server eventually offered us free dessert as compensation. When entrees finally arrived, they weren't good. Pastas were poor. Filet was okay but accompanying potatoes not at all good. We accepted two servings of the ice cream sundae as complimentary dessert, but that wasn't worth repeating either.
Our server ultimately apologized, saying they had lost both chef and sous chef. A friend later said that when they have wedding receptions, which they did that day, the restaurant is closed. It was open, our reservation was honored, and perhaps that was their mistake.
The Inn at Brookeville Farms is low-key sophistication at its best. You'd think you were dining in an urban 5-star restaurant given the quality of food; however, the personable, genuinely gracious service lets you know you're a neighbor and a friend. What a wonderful place to have brunch to celebrate hubby's birthday. The bar area looked like the perfect place for an informal date night...subtle décor and impressive wine list with no Millenials throwing back drinks as fast as they can. Love this gem!!!
We left "The Inn" in shock. We came to have a special dinner (regardless of the cost) with family and left with a shared disappointment. With very few diners in the restaurant we arrived on time and where immediately seated. When I have to say that was the best part of the evening you can tell where this is headed: 15 minutes to get drinks, 20 more minutes to get appetizers (note – when raw oyster come with ice melted to the shell it should be a warning that something was too warm at some point). Dinner found that “rare” was replaced by medium and the pasta was burned/crisped on the edges. After two hours we were in no mood to return the food. Problem seemed to be in the back room/kitchen but no apologizes were offered so who knows. Never again.
Overall the experience was great. The food is spectacular- best calamari I have had in ages. We had a problem with being ignored by our server at the beginning- we went to dinner at 4:45 and were the only ones in the dining room so that was surprising but once we called it to the attention of the manager, service got much better. This is a great place for a group- there are many private rooms.
Food adequate; service was horrible. Had to get up several times to find the waiter; we were left alone in a part of the restaurant with no people at all, four rooms, we were the only people. My meal was terrible (squid/shrimp with pasta), but the omelets looked good. By the time the extras are added to make a real meal it would have been too pricey for those however, the serving was only eggs and potatoes, all breads and meats extra. Have been there for a small group event, it was much better. Would not go back for a meal with a small number of people again. Waste of time and money.
We arrived at the restaurant and were immediately greeted at the door by the maitre' d.. The menu looked great to me, but not to my mother, who was celebrating her 90th birthday. She is a picky eater and not inclined to like many vegetables, sauces, or dressings. So, she settled on a hamburger. Thinking that her birthday should have something special, I spoke with the maitre' d. He spoke with the chef, who came up with a lovely meal of the steak tips that were already on the menu as part of a salad, sauteed green beans, and French fries. Shows how a fine restaurant can be flexible with customers' likes and dislikes. My mother loved it. Lunch was followed by a birthday dessert--a lemon and blueberry tart with a candle. Not a lemon lover, my mother devoured most of it, with some help from my brother and me--we only got a few bites. All in all, an excellent meal for a very reasonable price, especially given that they only charged the hamburger price for my mother's meal! My husband and I, who appreciate fine food, will certainly go there.
charming setting, plates were an assortment of patterns, it's expensive to do business, but it really needs to be neater inside and out. The place is a well oiled machine with solid food and service and would attract more if they could keep it all under control;clean, dust, and it's better to have a clear shelf than a cluttered one with dusty arrangements. perhaps turning the building behind the restaurant into a storage facility would help.
I have been eating here quite many times but the past Sunday I was extremely disappointed. My reservation was at 12:30 pm but our food was not served till 2:10 pm. I questioned about our food to our server and other servers three times. They kept saying it is coming. My patient went out. Finally I walked to the hostess and mentioned that we still have no food. I asked for the manager. She came and said they had a big party upstairs. I said this is not the first time they have big party. If their kitchen could not handle other reservations on top of the party. They should not accept other bookings. Our server did not even check our food if I did not question. Also when I ordered hot tea with lemon. She brought a ceramic tea pot with hot water but without a lid. I asked for the lid and she said they do not have it (Another server did bring me the lid). Unbelievable! The manager said she is new so I said maybe they have to train their staff better. It is not acceptable to keep us wait for more than 1 1/2 hour. They did not even offer some bread while we were waiting!
My wife and I went to The Inn at Brookeville for our Valentine's Day dinner. The inn is very rustic and was beautifully decorated. The staff were attentive and did a great job. This was our first time dining here and I think we will probably return for a special occasion or brunch.
