The Indian Garden - Chicago
Wonderful food, excellent staff. A hidden gem in Chicago. It’s our new favorite new go-to Indian restaurant.
The service was good; food was also good. Excellent chicken starter. The goal fish Curry was pretty bland in flavour and was more about heat. The tikka masala was quite hot and not very flavoursome either. The cocktails were fun!
We (2 people) got there at opening (with multiple other parties) and were seated immediately which was great. About 15 minutes later we got asked if we wanted drinks, and then proceeded to wait another 45 for someone to take our order. During which time, all the other parties that were seated with us and even some after us had their food and had finished eating. We had to wait another 30+ minutes for our food (nothing complicated and again only 2 people) when other tables were getting theirs much faster. I would have normally Attributed it to the restaurant being busy and given leeway, but we were the only ones not being interacted with and I kept track (as I had nothing else to do). We were completely forgotten in the main dining area. I had to get up and find someone to get our check.
Terrible service. There were only 4 tables but yet servers never came to check on us or take our food orders
Had a business dinner with client. When we arrived, we were welcomed and seated right away. Good variety of menus to choose from. We ordered quite a number of appetizers and main course food. Each of them had distinct flavors and the presentation was great! Taste of food was mouthwatering and fresh. Ambience was very nice with warm hospitality as well. Servers were very responsive and prompt. Recommend for dining and will sure be visiting many more times the restaurant to explore other delicacies.
High quality but very low variety of food.
Great food and decor if you are looking for a classic Indian dinner.
Was there for Thanksgiving and they opened their Buffett for the occasion and it was just… meh… it felt they were forced to do it as the options were lack luster especially their vegetarian options. You would think their vegetarian options would shine in an Indian restaurant. Only 1 appetizer option and the “salad” was just garnishes with empty bins next to it. And only 1 dessert option which they clearly did not make and dumped out from a can. We had to continually ask for items at the table, water glasses, drinks, but they were really quick to be like “are you done with your plate?!?” And trying to rush us out. She even took the plate when when our spoons were in our hands mid bite. Or when she took our plate she took our silverware and there was no option to replace it so we had to continually ask for another set. We understand it was full but we had a reservation prior so we didn’t think it was fair to feel rushed for the walk in reservations.
It was kind of a damper on the holiday. And as Indians we shouldn’t have to feel embarrassed walking out of an Indian restaurant. But I don’t think I will venture here really again. And it is really disappointing to say that.
buffet is great! lamb is amazing
We have been here before and always had very tasty meals. This time, the chicken was dry and everything was very salty. It felt like there might be someone new in the kitchen. The okra was so salty we had to spit it out. Our waiter also seemed very confused and not really paying attention, One of the things we ordered was never delivered to the table, It did not appear on the bill so clearly he never recorded that we wanted it. It was very disappointing.
The food was ok with some dishes being better than others (ranging from tasteless to tasty). Service abysmal. Everything was a rushed affair, with entrees arriving before appetizers had been cleared.
Fantastic as always. Favorite Indian restaurant in the city!!
The food was amazing! Would go again for the food.Ambience was excellent. I was there for lunch with my wife and sister the staff were unfriendly. They were going to close for a lunch break and we seemed unwanted. Future suggestion do not sit us if you are going to close soon. I was very disappointed with the service.
Awesome ambiance food and service .. Anil was more than attentive and made our celebration unforgettable
Descent food but wait time more than 15 minutes. Appetizers were great! Entrees were decent/okay!
It was a great hole in the wall.
Great food and wonderful ambiance. Selection at the buffet is solid.
Weekday lunch buffet was not worth the money - tandoori chicken was dry like it was a day old and heated twice; the raita was watery, the kheer was diluted and not sweet.
Great buffet. Wide variety of flavors. Supportive, helpful, attentive staff. Thank you.
Good quality Indian food. Had the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet which includes several vegetarian and meat choices as well as soup and dessert.
The nanager ordered for us and the choices, portions and service were great!
Food was really good. A strong indicator of a good india restaurant is how they're Naan is soft, and we'll made and it certainly was. Service was a bit slow, but that's understandable given what the restaurant industry is facing. Highly recommend and would go back!
Excellent food, service was lacking a bit.
Very bad experience.
We booked for 3 pm, we paid for an Uber but upon arrival they informed us that they were closed from 3 to 5. We showed them the notice they had on the door that indicated their hours until 11 pm and happy hour from 3 to 5 pm. We had to go without eating.
I've been several times to Indian Garden for weekday lunches with co-workers - the lunch buffet is affordable and always a good spread (though I've noticed fewer dishes in my most recent visit 2021 than before in 2019 - probably due to starting up again after limited openings from the pandemic), and the vibe and visuals are pleasantly funky and retro. For authentic Indian food with a ton of vegetarian options and a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, this makes a great, fun place for a weekday lunch.
We ordered the lunch buffet. The items were depleted when we arrived. We were told repeatedly that the buffet items would be restocked and they were not. We waited it out an hour for the buffet items to be restocked and they never were. We spent $20 per each buffet for basically no food being offered. Very disappointing. If you’re out of food just be upfront about it rather than trying to make money for no offering.
The person taking reservations made us wait for 50 minutes despite me having a reservation. Even after we waited he said the food would take 45 minutes to arrive even of we got the table now. I had a horrible experience. i would not recommend.
Absolutely fantastic Indian food! Everything we had here was phenomenal and we can't wait to go back.
Packed up our food and left in a hurry. We were seated less than 6 feet apart from a table with 11 (I counted) guests. Restaurant was packed for dinner and we did not feel safe at all. I’m a physician and throughout the pandemic, we have continued to dine out at restaurants in NYC and elsewhere that were following Covid guidelines. However, the situation at this restaurant was ridiculous. The owner insisted that we not pay for our meal after I pointed out obvious non-compliance with seating capacity regulations. The food was standard. The service was quick, but they forgot to give us our drinks, and when we reminded our server, we were charged twice. The ambiance may have been pleasant in non-pandemic times
Great staff and amazing food. Definitely recommend!
The staff made us feel like we didn’t belong there. We had 4 different servers, each one was very short with us. I paid $100 cash on a $65 bill & they never brought the change back to the table. I’m assuming they thought we would not tip. They all just disappeared, even the hostess. I’ll never go back to this restaurant again.
Had a great experience dining here with my parents. The food was good overall. The starters were appetizing
First time 2 weeks ago when we came on that day service is outstanding & very polite . Manager offer mango lassi & peas rice to my little daughter. She said best restaurant ever. My daughter is keep telling me that i want to go to that restaurant. I took her this weekend but same manager didn’t give her mango lassi or he didn’t talk with her & she is so upset. She said now I’m not coming here again... Sorry to say but so much difference between first time service & second time .i came here all the way from Wisconsin just for make my daughter happy but poor service.
Food is outstanding & delicious.
I’ve never been to an Indian restaurant before but was not disappointed by the service, ambience or the food. I’d definitely go back!
I live around the corner and finally decided it was time to try out Indian Garden. When we walked in, I was immediately impressed by the decor. It was absolutely beautiful and so detailed. Once we were seated, our server didn't even introduce himself and was very unfriendly. It was off putting for sure. We ordered frozen margaritas and for $12 each, I thought they could've been bigger. For dinner, we ordered the chicken samosas to start (so good) and butter chicken and tikka masala with a side of rice and garlic naan. The portions were perfect and the food was absolutely incredible. I didn't know it would be spicy but they were both so good. For dessert, we ordered the mango lassi and it was to die for. Basically a creamy yogurt smoothie with mango. So freaking yummy! I will definitely be back. However, I hope the service improves next time. Our server was acting like he didn't want to be there and it was obvious. You don't want to feel like a burden while dining out.
Very beautiful restaurant with nice staff. Our friends were very happy with the food taste. That being said, the food did take a long time, but it was okay since we were amongst friends. The dishes are pricey, and was not enough food. Two people shared one of the specials ($25-$35) and I asked if it was enough for two and they said it was plenty. It was not which was disappointing, we left a bit hungry. Would try the other individual dishes in the future, but only for special occasions since it’s a little pricey.
This is by far the best Indian food I have eaten in the US. I am from London, home to some of the best Indian restaurants in the world, and this one could hold its own with any I have experienced.
Absolutely love our experience every time!
Best Indian Restaurant in Chicago. Highly recommended by everyone we’ve ever introduced to Indian Garden. Have eaten here several times, both dine in and take out and the quality is consistently exceptional.
