The Hairy Lobster
One member of our party had food issues due to medications. You could not have been more helpful and conscientious in dealing with this matter. We were very impressed and very much appreciated. Thanks so much.
We’re seating on the second floor under looking the kitchen which beautiful. The food and drinks were delicious. Waiter was super helpful double checking and making recommendations based on my food allergy. Note the food is serving and portioned family style.
One of the most memorable restaurant experiences in the Rose City! Great atmosphere & great food. We’ll be back and also highly recommend to our family & friends :)
Ever single thing we ate was absolutely amazing!
Service was on point too..!
Nice. Will go back
Disappointed that neither OpenTable asked when I made the reservation nor the restaurant host when he seated us if we'd like to be seated downstairs where there's a restroom. We didn't even know that there's an upstairs and that there's no bathroom up there. My partner has a disability, which we mentioned to the host as he was taking us up the stairs. My partner had to go up and down the stairs a few times during dinner and it would have been nice and the right thing to do to ask that question and not assume that everyone is able to sit upstairs as easily. After dinner, we said something to the host who basically showed no interest in our situation and when we asked to speak to a manager he said there isn't one at the restaurant currently, which we later found out wasn't true. While the food was good, their inability and unwillingness to accommodate people with disabilities left a bad taste in our mouth so we cannot recommend them.
Loved it. Food was so flavorful. We shared the rib-eye and the pork belly dishes. Also, best fries in the world. The horsy aioli was delicious.
Sat at the counter and loved the show from the friendly bartenders. True craftsman. They overheard us talking about celebrating our upcoming anniversary and sent us a nice dessert surprise. So kind.
Would like to see more beer options and not a fan of IPAs.
Thanks to everyone for a special experience. They handled Valentines Dinner very well.
Can’t wait to return.
This is not a sea food restaurant. The food was very good and the menu was simple and flavorful. The wine list was incredibly long (with a small font size of about a 5),complicated and overpriced (I would guess 5 times the retail). The wine list was so complicated that I honestly think there should be a sommelier on staff. That would help in choosing the wine and I could justify the overpriced wine list. The wait staff was not trained for serving the wine. When we received our wine it was not of proper temperature. A certified Somm would not have allowed that. If you are going for the food only, then yes I recommend. If you are going for a wine/food experience there are many other restaurants in Portland.
It was a great place to enjoy Valentines Day!
Excellent dining experience. The steelhead poké was absolutely delicious!
We really enjoy this restaurant. The food is unique combinations of interesting flavors served on old china. Sharing small plates is fun. Service is fabulous. The servers provide realistic estimates of what is reasonable and make great drink recommendations. I can't recommend this enough.
Went here for my birthday dinner and really loved every dish we had. The mushroom bisque and hanger steak were my favorites. Also had a delicious cocktail and the wine list was great. Thanks again for a lovely evening!
The food and service were both great. Can't wait to go back.
Loved this restaurant! The diverse menu offered wonderful choices for all of us including our vegan daughter. Gorgeous, comfortable space. Be sure to save room for dessert! So good!!!
Every time we come here, everyone at the table is gushing about every mouthful. It’s fresh. Varied menu. Amazing taste combinations. It just doesn’t get any better than this.
Food quality is exceptional, as usual. I have been here previously; typically the service is also outstanding, but this time around it was 'unremarkable' -- perhaps even mediocre. Hopefully this was just a 'one-off' and next time expecting the same exceptional service to pair with the excellence of the food.
Amazing food and service! The chef even came out at the end of the night and checked in on us to make sure we were happy.
We went for my mother in laws birthday. Food was so delicious, dessert was amazing, and the cocktails were fun. Only thing was that we thought there was going to be more seafood on the menu, but overall it was delicious! We would come back again
The food was amazing and the staff were all top notch. We'll be back for sure!
Great experience overall...led off with buns, they are something special.
What a great find! The food is outstanding - menu might be a bit limited in options, but every bite was outstanding. We started with the rolls which as simple as they are, they were the best rolls we have ever tasted! We had the mushroom bisque (outstanding), bbq pork belly, hanger steak, lamb, broccoli and finished off with the lemon cheesecake - the entire meal was exceptional. All 4 of us commented on the fact that we would recommend this restaurant to everyone and we will certainly be back!
Food and service was fantastic. Was able to find a good mix of food to share with girlfriend.
It's one of our favorites, for sure. Each dish is delicious and the service is top notch. The cocktails are also very inventive. It is one of the most consistent places we go to. Be sure to save room for dessert; they are truly remarkable.
Such a great find! We came across The Hairy Lobster through a recommendation, and we are so glad we did. Every staff member we encountered was very friendly and helpful. Our waiter, Nick, was very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered rolls with whipped butter with lavender and honey, lobster tail, fries with steak, salmon with pasta, pork belly and grits, fried shrimp and hush puppies, and two desserts. The items are served family style and meant to be shared. We ate well, left stuffed and happy. By no means is it an inexpensive meal, but it was worth every penny.
After having visited many, many restaurants in Portland over the past 5 months since my arrival, I have to say that my experience at The Hairy Lobster was the best so far. Quality of service, quality of food, ambiance, and attention to detail were all 5-Star. The owner/executive chef came out to introduce himself and personally check on the quality of our experience -- hands down, the best restaurant experience I've had in the past several years. Will definitely come back frequently and have already been recommending to friends. What a gem of a place in the heart of The Pearl!
Had a group of 8 so had the mandatory Chefs Choice. All 9 courses were incredible and the staff was very patient as we had late arrivals that they easily accommodated and kept the restaurant open past closing with no rush at all. Could not have asked for a nicer evening.
Such a wonderful dining experience! Service was great and food was outstanding! We will definitely return.
Small shared plates are the specialty of this restaurant. The prices are moderate except you select more than one per person, so it can get fairly expensive. They change the menu frequently based on what is fresh and available in the market. The food is exceptiaonally good and the service was also good.
Food was fantastic, service was friendly, we didn’t love our seats, it was an odd placement and one of the only tables without hooks for a purse.
Awesome meal with perfect direction from our waitress. We left very happy! We will be back.....
Food was unique and very tasty. A little spendy but very nice evening out with new good dishes and nice atmosphere
We had a wonderful evening with friends at Hairy Lobster. The food and drinks were excellent. Each dish was unique and flavorful. We didn’t feel rushed and look forward to returning soon.
The service was outstanding, the location and atmosphere in the restaurant, beautiful However, it was so warm we found ourselves (and those near by as we were seated upstairs) peeling off layers, fanning ourselves and almost a little sick by heat. I will say they did offer to turn it down. The food was fine, but not memorable. One dish could have used some extra seasoning as we both felt it a was a bit bland and the tables don't have salt and pepper on them. All in all, a fairly okay adventure, but I was hoping for so much more.
My family (party of 12) celebrated my parents' 65th wedding anniversary. The Chef's menu of choices was outstanding. I can't wait to host another big group at Hairy Lobster! Thank you for a wonderful dinner!
While the food and service on our recent visit with a small group were generally excellent, there were issues with the pacing of the meal and the expectation of how long our dinner should last. The whole premise at this restaurant is shared small plates, which we were warned would come out as they were ready. But after an initial long pause between soup and the first plate, they came in rapid-fire succession, to the point where it was hard to enjoy (or even serve) one before the next one showed up. The next issue came, when immediately after dessert and paying the bill, we were asked to relinquish the table as the next reservation was waiting. I really didn't feel we were dawdling over empty plates, if anything the meal was somewhat on the rushed side.
Dinner, atmosphere and service were awesome. We'll be back.
Tasty share plates and good service. We will be back.
We ordered 7 different dishes. 2 were good, and 5 were excellent. The service was very informative and attentive, and the deserts were wonderful. All the staff was very pleasant and friendly, and our server was terrific.
My only and biggest disappointment was the prices and quality and size of the drinks, including the coffees and espresso. Most of the cocktails were small and underwhelming, and were quite expensive for what we got, even the wine pour by the glass was about 1/2 of what you would expect.
Yes I will return, but I will inquire in more detail on the beverage service...
We were a late four-top (9:30 reservation, they close at 10pm) but they were absolutely lovely and caring to us! The food was delicious, the drinks were tasty, and the servers were attentive and charming. They even played along well with our senses of humor! Well done!
It is a little on the spendy side, but the food is delicious. Just be prepared to pay for what you are getting.
Many meals - about 10 per year for the past 3 yrs.
The food is truly amazing - one of the best restaurants in the Pearl District.
