Had a fantastic birthday brunch here, 6 of us enjoyed different items from the menu and everyone was happy with their choice. Really friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. I've been talking about the poached eggs and bacon all week. A real gem in Hackney Wick's oyster.

I'd booked a table for six on a Saturday lunchtime and we had to have lunch finished in an hour, which I mentioned when booking. I was a little worried, having read reviews saying that service can be slow. The service was very efficient and friendly. We enjoyed the food , which tasted really fresh and homemade. The mezze were as good as in Istanbul!

four of us went on Friday night for some dinner and to catch up. The ambience and service was lovely but sadly the veggie curry - which they charged £12 for - was awful. Like something you'd put together as a student, complete with packet rice and shop-bought naan. Worst of all was a very stody, stale and overly harshly spiced dahl, which none of the three of us touched. Really disappointing - I'd be ashamed to serve it to friends at home. we did receive some free desserts when we complained about the curry to our waiter, which was appreciated. But I'd much rather not have forked out £24 in the first place for such poor food.

Food was nice though the bacon could have been crispier. Friendly service. Food took a long time to arrive, luckily we weren't in a hurry.

It was really busy after the Hackney half marathon so I would go back if it were less hectic, but on this occassion the service was not up to the numbers there, and the food was OK but really not at all good value - £11.50 for a small portion of bubble & squeak and a couple of strips of streaky bacon + egg is a shocker. The charcouterie plate was overpriced and poor as well. Both might be put down to the crowds on the day I suppose, but if it's like that normally I'd avoid at all costs.

Having been to the Hackney Pearl for food previously I was expecting the usual good food but we were really disappointed with the standard of our meal especially the main courses. We ordered the lamb leg kebab and risotto, the kebab was very basic with poor quality pieces of meet, large amounts of onion with stodgy rice to accompany it and a tomato sauce which looked like it had come straight out of a tin, to be honest it felt like a student dinner not a £16 main course. It was really poor and for value for money compares very badly to restaurants such as Mission and 10 Greek Street where a main course/large plate mighty be this price but is of far higher quality. The risotto was ok but good. Both dishes lacked the refinement, care and quality of ingredients which I had expected. We didn't stay for desert given the quality of our main courses. Including starter, the mains and 3 drinks our bill was £59, which feels like a lot for a poor meal.

The Hackney Pearl is one of our locals and we used to love coming here. We don't anymore. It used to be a place where 'foodies' go but these days the food is just alright - nothing special, not very inventive and on this occasion not even very well cooked. You still have to pay £15 - £20 for a main and there are more places nearby that would charge the same prices for better quality food. The staff is friendly.

I met a friend here for a lunch date. It's situated in the middle of nowhere and was a little tricky to find so it's perfect for hipsters! My friend and I hadn't seen each other in a few years so we were happy to find that the restaurant was busy, yet quiet enough to catch up. I was following a wheat and Dairy free diet at the time and I struggled to find anything on the menu that I could eat, but the waiter was extremely helpful. I ended up having the sea bream with chips which was very nice however it wasn't deboned which made it difficult to eat. It's a nice little East London gem.

We'd been warned by one of our party to allow plenty of time, as the service she'd received previously was slow. It was true! It took 2 hours for just starters and main course - and there were just four of us and a half full restaurant. The food was good (soup - lovely, artichokes - delicious, fish - lovely, veggie option - lovely, steak - nothing to write home about). We returned after the theatre for dessert (crumble - lovely - but the rhubarb eton mess was just an enormous bowl of whipped cream, with no more than a teaspoon full of meringue and rhubarb - an enormous disappointment) Go if you're not in a rush - avoid the eton mess at all costs!

Went there last Saturday night with my husband didn't know what to expect from the menu but the dishes came round and they looked and tasted very wholesome and home made so was pleasantly surprised and they were spot on as it was cold and miserable outside! the atmosphere is what you would expect from cutting edge Hackney Wick - creative, artsy looking types and random, eclectic thrifty furniture - this is the real deal. Shame they cleaned the coffee machine so early...

Dinner was exactly what you like a dining experience to be. We went prior to a local event and the approach to the restaurant was already appealing. A big Christmas tree in front and warm lights of the restaurant welcomed. Loved the interior, the staff were relaxed and hospitable, the menu interesting and varied and then the food itself yummy! No complaints here, which is more than I can say for the event we went to afterwards:)

Vegetarian friendly, the food is home-made, simply and not bad at all. I had the lentil stew –simply cooked lentil&carrots.Very healthy, so good…. but then the bill comes around For the range of prices on the menu I would expect better service and quality of food! Ok. East London is in a world of its own. I like the simply décor where it is ok for the paint to be peeling of the walls attracting hipsters. But cool does not necessarily has to go with dirty floors covered with dust! The concept of the place does not reflect their outrages prices. My lentil was listed 13,50; total 65 pounds! In my view it is ridiculously overpriced place that is run without any attention to details, as if that's a great thing. There are better places around.

Booked a table at the Hackney Pearl for my son's birthday. He'd always wanted to go so I said I'd treat him. Told people so we all knew where to meet. Just before I got there I picked up a voicemail from the Hackney Pearl saying they were closed that evening. Bit of a disaster really. Ended up in the Pembury Tavern which was quite pleasant and interesting food. I'd go there again!

The Hackney Pearl has a great selection of cocktails which are on a two for one happy offer deal from 5pm to 7pm (same cocktails only). The three course set menu for £18 was delicious and a good amount of food. There is a £2 surcharge on the steak but it was a very good steak which they only cook rare which is for the best. The service was great.

i went for brunch with a couple of people and thought the menu was delicious and different to the standard brunch places. i had poached eggs, spinach and butternut squash and it was lush! the service was a little slow considering it wasnt that busy but we were in no hurry and lingered quite a while after eating chatting away. it's slight out of the way in its location and not much around to look at our people to watch but would definitely go back.

The Pearl is a mixed bag - you'll either love or hate the old skool/new age ambience, I love it but my companion shrugged and said Peckham does it better. The menu change took away some old favourites and the replacements aren't all welcome but the risotto is superb. Service a bit hit and miss but it's reasonably good value and until the Wick gets a bit more variety it's a welcome local watering hole.

A great little restaurant with no gimmicks, just top notch grub...also added bonus of some great local beers to wash it all down. Highly recommend.

Took my boyfriend there for his birthday and had an amazing evening. It's partly due to the staff who are friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic about the short but well-chosen menu and the adventurous wine list. It's casual enough to feel relaxed, but still special enough that it felt like a real treat. The food was seasonal, perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. Highly recommend!

Having been to the Hackney Pearl for coffee before we were looking forward to eating dinner there. In retrospect we should have gone elsewhere as the service and food weren't up to scratch! Booking on the website via toptable was a waste of time as the staff hadn't bothered to reserve our table, which left us wondering if the vibe is laidback why offer the option to reserve! Staff are friendly enough but a bit slow. As for the food it was overpriced and not great. All in all a nice place for coffee/brunch but disappointing for dinner.

Went on a sunny sunday. One of us had the pork belly which had a great depth of flavour and brilliant crackling. I had breast of pigeon with red lentil puree...superb. We chose the Spainish white to drink. We asked for an ice bucket as we were outside. They don't have one. However, they improvised and used a large metal bowl with water and ice. Very cute and kind of them.
