The Grill - St. Mark Golf Club
My review is against OpenTable, they made me a Rez but didn't tell me it was closed! Bad OpenTable!
We booked this restaurant through Open Table and when we got to the restaurant it was closed for renovations!
Came here for Sunday brunch after staying at The Lakehouse. It has a more mature crowd which offers a quiet atmosphere. Brunch was decent and offers bottomless champagne. Tables overlook the golf course.
Hostess wasn't thrilled and didn't really show happiness / service was ok / food could have been better
Won't go back
Always a great brunch at The Grill-St. Mark Golf Club!
For several years St. Mark's Grill has been our 'GO TO' spot for evening dining in a quiet setting.
The patio is especially nice. Now that evening dining hours are limited we will continue to enjoy lunch and breakfast in a friendly, scenic setting.
easy to get in, very diversified menu, tasty food at reasonable pricing
Everything for me, my daughter & our friend was wonderful outside on the patio. Inside was dingie, dark & gloomy. The carpet was old, looked & smelled dirty. The carpet was torn & threads sticking up. Looked & felt hazardous. I tripped on the carpet going out to the patio, then gong back in to leave. BUT, everything outside during our birthday lunch with a long-time friend was lovely. The food, service & view excellent! I'm looking forward to going back & trying a different item on the menu. ( Please send this to The Grill - St. Mark Golf Club, San Marcos, CA. - I tried as a private note below, but it didn't work. Thank you.)
I was very disappointed in the service. We had a group of 10 and only one other occupied table in the restaurant. We had to ask twice for our waiter after 15-20 minutes he appeared. For drink orders. We had to run him down again to order food.
Two people had the prime rib which was not even close to warm. However, we couldn't complain because we never saw the waiter again till the bill came!!
I'm sorry but this place has potential just not recommended until issues are fixed!
My friends and I had lunch on the lovely covered patio on a recent gorgeous afternoon. As is always the case, the setting is so great (overlooking the putting practice green and part of the golf course) and the food was delicious. From burgers to sandwiches to salads, everyone was unanimous that it was all excellent (and the hot food good and hot, not lukewarm... a pet peeve). We were able to chat and relax and thoroughly enjoy our time together (and the food!) in a relaxed environment.
Just an FYI that service can be a little slow (or shall I say "relaxed"?), but if you go in knowing that and you're not rushed, it works out fine. However, if you're in more of a rush, let your server know at the outset and, at least in my experience, they'll gladly accommodate that. Otherwise, bring a friend, relax, and enjoy your time together.
My only suggestion, which is fairly minor overall, is in regards to the music. The playlist is not always conducive to dining conversation (some annoying vocals, for example, that competed with our conversation, but this seems to be happening at a number of restaurants recently, even fine dining. What's that about?). It didn't help that we unfortunately sat right below one of the speakers so it was rather loud. I suppose we should have asked them to turn it down a bit, which I'll do next time if it's an issue. Still, like I said, a pretty minor annoyance but something instrumental/jazz-influenced might be a better choice.
Overall, we had a really pleasant and tasty dining experience. Great food, great setting-- can't ask for much more!
The food was delicious! The place was OLD and worn out. Literally, we were the only ones in the restaurant----and the service was unbelievably slow. After finishing dinner, no one even asked if we wanted dessert (we were too full anyway) and I finally had to walk up to the person at the reservation pedestal and ask if we could have the bill! I believe he was the manager and he even had his back to us the whole time. They had a nice, busy, loud bar area that you had to walk through to even find the dining room. No---I will not go back.
So outstanding! Our bartender/server was Brian - superb, friendly, professional. We made a reservation at a well known spot in San Marcos, we were unable to get any service, sat for 30 minutes before finally going to the bar for service and being ignored there also...so I hopped on Open Table to find an alternative spot for dinner...The Grill @ LSM came up. We decided to give it a whirl and although the signage leading into the facility was not super clear on where the restaurant was, I am SO glad we found it. Compliments to the chef - the meal was truly first class, the service from Brian was perfect. Great wines, beautiful view, and the surf and turf special for $20 on a weekend night- cant beat it...best deal in town. Cant wait to go back!
We sat outside with our two year old, right on the edge of the golf course. The view was great and the ambiance started out nice. It took quite awhile for a server to come over to us, but once we got the food the brunch spread was really good. Lots of variety, well-cooked and the chefs were very polite and attentive. We were happily eating when a party of 20+ (14 of them children from multiple families) showed up and sat a few feet from us. These children were absolute heathens, the stuff nightmares are made of. They were jumping across the chairs and even across the tabletop at one point, blood-curdling screaming, racing around with toy machine guns that made a horrible racket, and then decided to play hide and seek UNDER the tables of the other guests. I had two boys dive under our table to "hide" at one point, I yelled "Are you kidding me? We are eating here, get out!" and they glared at me and grudgingly left (and these kids were between 6-12 it looked like, way too old to act like this in public). The parents were busy cheers-ing their mimosas and paying no attention. I went to the front desk where the hostess and three waitresses were standing and pointed to the scene out the window and asked them to do something. They literally all stared at their feet and said, "Well...I don't know what I would say to them". They were afraid, in their own establishment, to tell patrons that their horrible children needed to sit down and shut up. Those awful families were ruining it for everyone else eating there, makes me furious that a) kids think it's ok to act like this b) the parents could have cared less, and c) that the restaurant wasn't at all proactive in putting an end to their disgusting behavior. Newsflash to all restaurants - it is YOUR business, you have a right to ask people to leave!!
Undiscovered gem. Great burgers and appetizers. A wider beer selection would be nice but we'll definitely be back!
Mother's Day brunch was fantastic. I don't normally like buffets but this brunch buffet was gourmet & fresh with lots of variety. Great overall selection, carving station options were superb and the Bloody Mary bar was a hit. This was our first time here & we will be coming back for sure! My only recommendation is to find out what time the brunch starts. The latest we could get a reservation was for 9:45 and the brunch didn't start until 10:00. We had to wait until the brunch was ready, but luckily we had Mimosas to tide us over & was totally worth the wait.
Easter brunch was great! The food was delicious and they were very organized, seating us on time. The easter bunny visit was a nice touch and having a balloon maker was fantastic. My kids really enjoyed it. The bottomless mimosas were great but the service was a bit lacking (probably due to the large number of people for Easter). We would definitely come back again. We would have loved the outside seating but it was already full.
Dedicated Waiters, very helpful, never run out of anything. The Sunday Brunch is a must and everything is cooked right.
We like this place! Friday nights prime rib special is not only priced right, it's delicious. Bacon wrapped meatloaf and Cobb salad are also delicious! Great drinks, too! Try it!
Food is always good here but the décor is run down and the service is spotty.
Location is good, right off the clubhouse near the practice putting greens. Waitress was friendly, but oh so sloooowww. Took 10 minutes for her to make her first appearance and after we ordered cocktails, another 15 minutes before they showed up. Had fish and chips which was ok, but somewhat bland, just like my margarita. Others in my party had hamburgers. They all said they were good. It was my wife's birthday, which I indicated in my reservation via OpenTable. The restaurant did do a nice chocolate cake based birthday desert for her. Overall, there are many better restaurants in the general area. I'd go to one of those before I returned to The Grill.
Nice view of golf course. Food very good although pricey for lunch.
Primarily a golfers hangout.
I enjoyed a no rush breakfast at 7:00 AM at The Grill - St. Mark Golf Club in San Marcos, CA. It was easy to find from my suite at the Lakehouse Hotel & Resort (Stay for a wedding). Adequate disabled parking. The panoramic view of the golf course from every table was therapeutic for its landscaping beauty and serenity. The wait person was a business friendly lady with a natural smile and cheerful disposition. She clearly cared about my order being correct and prompt (I was hungry and my preferences made my order a tad complex.) The ambiance was that of a very clean country club restaurant. The bartender made a Bloody Mary to my spicy taste. I did not see eggs benedict on the restaurant breakfast menu (as it was on a web menu). Instead, I requested my favorite items à la carte. The portions were generous and the price was about $35.00, including gratuity (25%). The visually appealing meal was perfectly cooked and tasty. My choice restaurant for future visits in San Marcos. All positives and no negatives.
Try Prime Rib night every Friday. It is the best. And, all you can eat pasta nights on Wednesday rival any good Italian restaurant. Atmosphere is terrific with golf course views.
The Grill has special featured nights. Wednesday is pasta night. The food is fresh and made to order. You choose your pasta and all the ingredients. It's a winner. And, all that for $12.95 per plate....plus all you can eat!
An empty restaurant is never the best dining experience but at least you should be assured of some attention from the wait staff. Unfortunately we did not even get that compensation because our waiter obviously had better things to do than attend to his only customers. The food was bland and mediocre and my cocktail tasted of nothing more than water. We did get to finish our drinks outside by the enormous fire pit though which was fun. I don't think we will be visiting for dinner again though.
Let me say that what attracted me was the unusual items on the menu - a few non-standard things which I enjoyed; pate, especially. It was an okay spot, a bit expensive for a standard lunch, and great service. It was a change of pace.
The Grill - St. Mark Golf Club is rated 3.9 stars by 27 OpenTable diners.
