The Grey Plume

While the five course meal gave us a variety to sample from, there were aspects of the course that could use improvement. The pheasant was too salty but the moisture level was on point. Dessert donut had an excess amount of sugar.
Food was phenomenal & everything about the experience felt luxurious! My name is Alec & it was my girlfriend Sydney’s birthday and she was blown away. Our waitress, Heidi, did an exceptional job & was very entertaining and professional all night. Well done by everyone.
This was our first time at The Grey Plume, for our 15th wedding anniversary. We arrived early to have a drink at the bar, but the cardamom old fashioned had only the slightest hint of cardamom to it, nothing extraordinary. We were seated at our table, in which I had the view of the window looking into the dining room and noticed the wall needing severe painting attention. I don't expect a restaurant of this caliber to have chipped paint and dents in the wall, where the diner is 4 feet away. We did the chef's tasting menu and the wine pairing, which was a great experience, except that our waitress rattled off the courses and their components so quickly, it was difficult to tell what we were eating. And oh, there was NO music at all the entire night. One of the pheasants was sent back because it was way to salty overall, and the giant salt crystals on the top did not help. The waitress was more than happy to bring out something else, which was the wagu beef, and it was delicious. The dessert wine was not great, even though it was a sauterne, it fought with the peach ice cream.
A couple of notes to consider - if you have an open kitchen, please instruct your sous chef (he had a giant circle tatoo on the back of his hand) to not drink out of an open mason jar and wipe the back of his mouth w/his hand. And in a day where food allergies are more prevalent, it might be helpful to ask when booking a reservation, or seating a party, to ask if anyone has a food allergy or intolerance. My husband is lactose intolerant, and the very last course to the meal was peach ice cream with a duck fat fried doughnut. He could not enjoy the ice cream, which was sad, but had we known about the ice cream for the last course, possibly something else could have been subbed in its place. Perhaps we put all our eggs in one basket expecting wonderfulness from a restaurant which has received numerous accolades. But for us, it did not live up to all the hype, which is very sad.
We tried the chefs menu, everything was very delicious! And the service provided was amazing. Would definitely recommend. We will be having date night here again. The duck fat fried doughnut was AMAZING.
Service was terrible and unaccommodating. Waitress brought me out melted ice cream and made no effort to make it right by bringing me ice cream that was not melted and actually what I ordered. Food was average but for the price, other restaurants to go too.
Best food, best service, and best dining experience of my life. 10/10 would recommend.
The Grey Plume was extraordinary. Clayton Chapman, the owner, was even seating tables and refilling waters. The food was outstanding, and the ambiance was relaxing yet upscale. We loved our visit and can't wait to go back!
2 words: duckfat donuts. These alone are worth everything.
It was great. We celebrated our son’s 24th birthday.
Delicious meal! Loved the first bite and the focaccia was absolutely amazing! We will definitely be coming back!
It was restaurant week so that influences preparation and portion size. Great service. Very mediocre food. Overly ornate but not tasty preparations and tiny portions. We may come back another time to try - but probably not as there are many other options in Omaha.
Outstanding. Tasting menu was excellent. Server, Tessa was very engaging and the manager, Heather is always very pleasant and so knowledgeable about wine.
We arrived just a few minutes before our reservation (7:30pm) and were promptly seated. We were expecting the same amazing service that we have always received when going to Grey Plume, however, it took at least 15 minutes for the waitress to acknowledge us. The host came by our table at least 2 times to refill water before she came to take our drink order. When she did come by, she was plenty nice and apologized for the delay. We appreciated the apology, but with the acknowledgment, expected it to get better. Unfortunately, we rarely saw our server and had to wave her down for new drinks. Paying $300 for 2 for dinner, I was hoping for better service overall. The food was still amazing!
The Grey Plume never disappoints and this trip was no exception. The food is expertly prepared and presented. The serving staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and don’t press you to finish eating.
Service was excellent throughout our dinner. Engaging and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. It was a great evening with great food and drinks.
Went for restaurant week, which was great. Not pleased with a change in the special menu from what was published on the restaurant week web site, as we had looked forward to finally trying the duck fat fries. Table companions ordered the fries as an add-on. Fries disappointing because the aioli was not garlicky and appeared more like thick mayonnaise from a jar. Table companion disappointed in the doughnut dessert as being plain and understated as a finale to the rest of the menu. Otherwise, rest of courses were wonderful.
The service, in particular, at The Grey Plume was outstanding. The food was spectacular all served in a friendly, inviting setting.
Good food. 20% mandatory tip / hospitality charge. Wine gets dinged at +20% also. FYI.
Lovely restaurant! The menu is carefully curated and not overwhelming. The ambience is elegant but not fussy. The food is outstanding (BIG thumbs up on the duck fat fries and trout!). I especially like their service charge policy, which is based on a European model (20 percent is included in the bill, and they do a great job explaining it). Room for improvement: Service was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and (by in large) at a leisurely place...we never felt like they were trying to rush us out the door. But I felt like they were understaffed and our server was overwhelmed. Our pre-dinner cocktails arrived nearly ten minutes apart, and our empty plates were left in front of us for an uncomfortably long time (it seemed). The "by the glass" wine selection was good, but it needs more crisp whites. We were seated at a table next to (and by "next to," I mean less that a foot away) from a serving table...so mid-conversation, I'd hear a clink of a plate of utensils being set down, or plates being stacked. Other than that, we had a wonderful time and would definitely return the next time we are in Omaha.
Food fell short.
Great place for that special day in your life. We always enjoy the food and the experience.
The atmosphere was classy but not stuffy. The service was very friendly. The food was top notch and presented very well.
Our second visit to The Grey Plume matched, and in many ways surpassed, our first visit a year ago. The first bite set the tone for the evening (magnificent peach preserves and greens), followed by the must-order duck fat fries and cheese plate (wow!). The soup blew us away (again) and then the Wagyu melted in our mouths. We brought another couple to share the experience and we were all blown away. There was a small cube of Wagyu brisket (I think?) that was like dessert on the main dish. Not because it was sweet, but because it completed the main course perfectly. The closing salvo of duck fat donut and the dark chocolate...amazing. Everyone should eat here at least once, but definitely keep coming back.
My friend and I both ordered the 5 course meal and we both loved it. They were able to replace one of the courses with a gluten free watermelon salad very easily. No one made me feel like I was being a burden for being gluten free either, which is a plus. The drinks were unique and delicious as well. The waitress was super nice and attentive. The whole experience was great!
Enjoyed a beautiful evening on the new patio! Jill was our server and very attentive. The food was the main attraction of course😊
This is the first year the Grey Plume has offered outside seating and it was delightful! The peach sangria was deliciously refreshing and paired well with the 1/2 charcuterie board. It was the perfect size to share pre- Jazz On The Green. The Grey Plume never disappoints me.
Hospitality charge? Bad food, tiny portions, high cost, horrible value. Server was very nice. This restaurant is all about hype and location. You may leave hungry, I have every time.
Always fabulous with delicious and beautiful food. Excellent service.
Was not impressed. Service was extremely slow, waited with an empty glass for 10 minutes, very long wait between each visit of the server and the restaurant was not busy. Food was just ok, never not been impressed with the food at establishments within that price range, but here it was barely ok.
That place is always awesome
Excellent as usual, but it would be good to change the menu.
The food is normally outstanding, seems they had an off night Saturday. Will definitely go back because this is the first time I had ever been to the plume when things were 100% on point.
Food and service was amazing. Dishes were creative and delicious. Try the mulberry Manhattan! Budget 100 per diner. Great special occasion spot.
Great as always
We loved everything about our experience at the Grey Plume. I give this restaurant my highest recommendation.
We celebrated my wife's 70th Birthday and invited two of our daughters. Every part of out evening was outstanding. The appetizer, the wine, entree's and service were outstanding. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed being at the Grey Plume.
Creative (not weird) presentation and menu. Delicious duck and an excellent wine list. Best Manhattan ever and the sparking wine by the glass was excellent. But they do this weird adding of a tip to include the front and back of the house. Pay the back room staff better and let me leave a tip for the servers only.
Tessa was great! Attentive and awesome!
Exceptional, exceptional. I had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and they did not disappoint. I was surprised by the dishes that stood out to me most. Even the first bite to prepare the palate was out of this world.
Ambiance is relaxed, like eating in the comfort of someone’s pretty ranch home that they’ve spruced up to welcome friends and family for Sunday dinner.
Duck fat fries are sure to satisfy any salty craving you may endure! Definitely give them try!!
