5 star Service for our anniversary!
The previous time, the food had many errors and the service was poor. Decided to give them another chance and everything was drastically improved. I plan on eating here again soon. The daily soup offering was excellent, as was the Lobster Mac and Cheese. The bartenders here are experts and can craft almost any cocktail conceivable by the clientele. Definitely recommend to anybody hoping to have a delicious dinner or a well crafted cocktail.
Great atmosphere and wine selection. Food was surprisingly not as good this time. Steak was slightly overcooked. Spaghetti squash lasagna served with spinach was overpowered with garlic. I will go back though.
Love the Funky Door for brunch. Our server Patrick was fantastic. Will definitely sit in his section again.
The Funky Door is a very nice place for a dinner date, drinks worth friends, or just coffee and desert. I highly recommend it!
Great dinner. We sat close to the stage area so the music was a little hard. Made it hard to visit. But overall was good evening.
Excellent brunch menu for and only slightly more expensive than fast food. Try the blistered okra. It’s something special.
Celebrated Graduating from Texas Tech. It was a fun atmosphere, delicious food and drinks. Service was outstanding as usual! Funky Door is always our favorite!
This was our second time visiting and The Funky Door was supreme again!! The wife and I had filets, AMAZING!!! We also tried the dessert fondu which was out of this world! We will definitely be back, this is now our new favorite place when visiting Lubbock.
Went with friends to celebrate our March birthdays and had a great experience. Food was excellent and our waiter, Blayne, was fabulous! Highly recommend Funky Door.
Excellent on all fronts
Everything was really great - the food and service was awesome. The one downside was that there was a live performer (guitarist) playing in the main dining area so it made it difficult for our group to have any conversation really. I wish the hostesses would have made us aware of that before they seated us. We would have requested a table further away from the stage area if we had known about it. He started playing about 15 minutes after we had been seated and had already gotten drinks and apps so we didn't feel like we could move at that point. I will definitely go there again!
Very impressive. Will become a regular stop for us when we visit.
Frustrated because several of the wine dispensers were out of order. We drank cocktails instead and they were very good. We ordered fondue and the cheese was tasty but with Filet that was way too tough. We never got a steak knife to cut the pork chop so had to saw it with a bread knife. Salads and lobster mac & cheese was great!!
When I walked in I was asked if I had reservations. I replied yes and then was informed that there was a reservation after me so I had about two hours before I would need to vacate my table. I’ve never been told in any restaurant how long I had. This was very rude.
I have been to the funky door many times and never had this happen.
Our server was great!
Food and beverage menus have plenty of nice options. They have an exceptional wine list for the area although prices are high. Our waiter seemed to have more than he could handle. Most of all the noise level was a huge negative. We came to town to celebrate a birthday and it was difficult to talk with the very Loud music. Once the live band got going this was worsened. I’m talking Nightclub loud where you lean to you neighbors ear and yell. Not much fun when you plan to have a conversation.
Great place for a girls night out. Great food and service.
Overall we enjoyed our dining experience. While I thought the food was good, it took a long time to come out. There were only four of us, two of us ordering the same chicken dish. I didn't ask my friend about hers, but mine was lukewarm. The wait staff were all very friendly. They made the night very enjoyable.
My husband brought me here for Valentine’s. I loved the ambience, and being able to sample the wines. The music was a tad loud, but all in all it was great!
Great drinks, great food, great service. We love date night at Funky Door!
Would not recommend this place on a holiday. Hostess told us that there was a reservation after us at our table and to be reasonable with how long we took to eat. There was a live band and we wanted to enjoy some drinks and listen after we ate, but felt like we could not do that.
Super nice experience it was Valentine’s Day and our waiter gave me a long steam rose and two kinder chocolates at the end with our bill super awesome Valentine’s Day dinner experience!
Always a great place for great food, delicious drinks, live music and great service.
Enjoying brunch for our 1 year! Service was amazing!
I ordered one of the four chef's specials, lobster with a basil/tomato risotto. The lobster, a full six ounces, was hard to find. The risotto was cooked properly but had little to no flavor. The service was very attentive but the food was less than mediocre, especially considering the prices.
Had to sit upstairs and really went to see the live music but we still had an enjoyable eve with great food and great service. I really would suggest allowing seating options when making reservations online.
It was very nice, food was good, and service was awesome!
This place is really loud. It didn’t help that the jazz band that night was very loud as well. It took almost 30 minutes to get our food...the waiter told us it would be”right out” 3 times. I had a ribeye and i like my steak rare. It was north of medium rare and for the ridiculous price they charge you’d think they could get it close....nope!
I went to this restaurant to impress a first date. My date was far from impressed, in fact, was down right displeased. I spent nearly $100.00 to eat here and it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Live and learn...I’ll never go here again and anyone thinking of trying this place would be better served going just about anywhere else.
So I would say this experience was excellent except when I set up the double date, I expected a 4 top table. Rather than getting a table that would seat 4 we were seated at a table that barely had room for drinks. I asked to be moved and eventually was, however, not before there were several spills including hot cheese from two orders of fondue and a glass of whiskey that was was 35 dollars a glass. Whomever is booking the online seating order needs to add more questions or assume a true table when 4 seats are requested.
Been there once before a few years back I moved down with my wife and decided to take her because it’s one of my favorite places.
Service was slow, but good when around
This used to be our favorite place to go for a nice date night or a special occasion- but the last two times we’ve been (within 2-3 weeks of each other) have been disappointing. Both times the wait for food was excessive- the first time, we waited about an hour and a half to just get fondue and most recently it was about an hour for our entrees and then one of them was cold. We suspected something was wrong, when our waiter came over about 20 min after we ordered to confirm what my husband had ordered. We were later told that our food was held up bc our order was put in after a large party of 30- even though another table that sat down after us ordered and received their food and left before we ever got our food. However, that is the EXACT same excuse we were given for the 1 1/2 hours it took to get fondue, 3 weeks before. Isn’t that strange that both times our order was held up because of a large party of 30 ordering before us? Fortunately we were not in a hurry either time, but it was still frustrating.
In addition, the time 3 weeks ago we put our name on the waitlist and then went to wait at the bar, but our name was somehow taken off the list and a table was never prepared (after 2 hours) - fortunately we were able to just eat at the bar. More recently, we actually had a reservation and ate at a table and still had to wait a long time for our food.
The ambiance of this place is still great- but it seems like it’s too busy to provide great service.
The Funky Door was a great place for a date night! Service was quick and attentive and the food was very impressive!
My wife and I dined here on a recent trip to Lubbock. This was our first visit. The restaurant is an impressive venue. The entire lower floor is essentially a bar and it was pretty full on a Monday night and had live music. We had a reservation and were led to our table on the upper floor. The space was nice enough, but it felt a bit like we were tucked away in a back room. The upper dining area is open to the bar area below, but noise from below was not a problem. Actually enjoyed being able to hear the music.
The food was outstanding. We started with a Beef Wellington in won-ton wrappers and followed up with the Gruyere fondue. For the main course I had a perfectly cooked filet mignon. It was served simply with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. My wife had the crusted salmon served with wild rice, sauteed arugula and fried capers. We shared a cheese cake for dessert. Though good, it was the least favorite part of our meal.
Our waiter was attentive and eager. We were disappointed in the wine service though. We expected more out of a Wine Spectator Best of Award winner. The wine list was impressive, but there was no sign of a sommelier or wine steward. Our waiter took care of wine duties and he was obviously not well trained. He was unable to answer questions about the wine list and broke the cork on our bottle when he did not insert the corkscrew all the way.
Other areas that were lacking in our opinion. The by the glass sparkling selection could have been better. Only one dry sparkler from Spain was available and it was a bit pricey at $20 plus a glass. Better options from California or New Mexico are available at a more reasonable price. Wine is stored upright and a dry cork no doubt contributed to the aforementioned broken one. Also, very cheap wine glasses. Would have expected Riedel or Schott Zwiesel.
All in all a very good experience, but it could have been so much better. We'd definitely go back, but with different expectations in hand.
Great meal and Ben is a fantastic server!
Wonderful evening celebrating our 40th Anniversary, which I noted in the reservation. EVERY Staff person we interacted with knew it was our anniversary, knew our names, and knew it was our 40th! No less than 6 staff members greeted us throughout the evening. The food was excellent, and Jessica, the manager, went out of her way to honor a request for a special wine, which she had to get from her supplier. The Funky Door has an immense wine inventory and holds numerous awards for their wines, but our request was for something you'd find at a local store, a memory from our first anniversary as starving students. She found it, and had it delivered for us. AND, our server made a big deal out of explaining the origin of the name, the region it comes from, etc. as if it were a fine wine he was serving. Way above and beyond our expectations. We'll definitely be back to our new favorite place and strongly recommend it with 10 stars!
Knowledgable staff, excellent customer service, great food! We will be back!!
Wonderful dining experience. Sampled the Gruyere fondue as an appetizer, had the Millionaire ribeye, it was cooked to a perfect medium rare as well as the vampire tacos and the filet lollipops. We were there on a Thursday night and they had live music (guitarist) playing in the main dining room.
Great place to go in LBK!
