Excellent food superb service!
We highly recommend this place the food is outstanding and we will return
The food was excellent. Service Superb. Very cozy place. Next time we indulge on desert. They look amazing.
Our waitress was excellent and made our experience even more fun. The food was delicious and the pricing is very reasonable. It was the first time for all six of us and everyone said it was an excellent choice.
Positive reviews on OT encouraged our vacationing family to give it a shot. Turned out to be so accommodating and comfortable we went back the next night. Food professionally prepared and presented. If this place was in my neighborhood I’d go twice a month.
Love the Prix Fixe Menu, but even without, good value -- love their escargots, their cabernet-braised short ribs, their crème brulee, and multiple pastries. Have never had an unsatisfactory meal (nor unsatisfactory service) here in 20+ years. Took out-of-town visitors to the restaurant last evening, and they were equally pleased with their meals. Highly recommend The French Gourmet to all!
I have lived up the road from French Gourmet for three years but never had a sit down meal there (although I’ve grabbed items from their bakery which were delicious) - the service was perfect and friendly, food was excellent. I had the croissant sandwich with ham which was on an amazingly flaky and buttery fresh croissant. My husband had the corn beef hash and raved about it. Thumbs up all around!!
Always a really pleasant dining experience. Great food, friendly service, homey atmosphere. Always ready to go back.
No sirvió la reservación empiezan a atender a las 16:00 horas me fui a buscar otro restaurante perdí mi tiempo
My husband and I brought our three teenage grandkids for brunch. Food was very good and ample enough for hungry kids. Waiters were extremely nice and accommodating. We did have to speak loudly to each other as it was noisy. Only other complaint is lack of parking, but I would definitely come again.
This long established restaurant continues to provide excellent food and service. The small dining room reflects its French theme. The limited wine list provides excellent wine and great values , so not to worry that it is short. The prix fix menus provide more food than we can comfortably eat, so we usually split something. On New Year's Eve, it was prix fix and I ended up with a nice take home lunch.
We had a very excellent meal at the French Gourmet for New Year's Eve. I had the rack of lamb and it was so so delicious. One of the best rack of lamb I have ever had and I have eaten many! Perfectly prepared. My husband had the duck. The skin was crispy and done perfectly but the meat was quite dry. If it had more sauce it would have been fine. That was our only complaint. Every other dish was excellent. The lobster bisque was great and the winter salad fantastic. A small appetizer of fois gras and lobster was amazing. The crab cake had a sauce that was wonderful! We asked for our desserts to be packed to go because the portions were perfect for us to take back some to our hotel room to be eaten later.
what a wonderful way to end the year, food and service was just so good. We will definitely go back even though is is over a 45 min drive from Vista
Great holiday menu but poor execution. Duck very tough (maybe over cooked), rack of lamb well done when ordered medium. I have had better meals here on other occasions
Our experience this time was not good. It may take a while before we come back if we even come back.
2 of our party of 5 were late due to car issues and in addition they were lost. However they asked me to order for them. We were told that they could only take our order when ALL guests have arrived, that is the POLICY. I reiterated that we are not ordering in installment, rather ordering for everyone in our group because such was their "POLICY". Im not blaming the waitress she was only following POLICY. After sometime they did take our order.
After a long wait my escargot came, our bread had gotten COLD so i asked for fresh bread. I was told they were running low on bread (on Christmas Eve when they know they will have lots of guests and they have a bakery????).
The risotto was still hard and too aldente.
The cake was dry.
The most incredible place!
Great local vibe, wonderful French food, and warm, personal service... and at a surprisingly affordable price.
Don't skip dessert - their bakery is the best!
Great food and service with the extra treat of yummy pastries to buy!
What a nice experience. We celebrated our friend Bob’s birthday. It was so special
We've been coming to The French Gourmet since 2003, when we began visiting San Diego -- and now that we've moved here, we're delighted to be able to come more frequently! It compares favorably to the other French restaurants in town that we've tried and the Prix Fixe menu is a true bargain. I have yet to be unhappy with my meal, or the service. We come on the early side, when it's quieter, which suits us best. Love the Cabernet-braised short ribs, the escargots and of course, the crème brulee and other desserts! I'd like to see it add some classic dishes, like Cassoulet, to the menu -- but love it as it is.
food good space too cramped especially on weekends service uneven
Great food...good service always! Prix fixed menu has several options which is good value.
Enjoyed a delicious lunch with friends at The French Gourmet. We had varied meals (breakfast crepes for me, others had salmon and scallops). We were tasting each other's foods, and EVERYTHING was delicious!
This restaurant never disappoints. Try the Prixe Fixe menu any night of the week -- a salad or appetizer choice, an entree choice, and a dessert that is TO DIE FOR, all for $29.95!
Rich food with flavor combinations which were creative and delicious. We will be coming back!
Excellent serviz, food was fabulous, and the fresh croissants were the best!
My husband & I have eaten at the French Gourmet sine the 1980's at the old La Jolla Location.
This is the first time we were really disappointed. Only 3 other tables of customers. Our server was very inexperienced. We had the price fixed menu. The server asked how his escargot were & he said they were. to fresh & he wasn't going to eat the, The server left the plate on the table & did not over to bring any other starter. Our flat iron steaks were cooked properly...but were like warm when the were served. We had to ask for bread. The desserts were delicious as always. I used the ladies room &. noticed that the paint was peeling on the wall behind the sink. It will be a while before e return. French Gourmet needs a better staff that is supervised.
Food was very good. Great for lunch with girlfriend. We had mimosas, Quiche and Panini. All were delicious. Our server was knowledgable and very attentive. The bakery counter on the way out is hard to resist, of course we each picked up a yummy pastry.
Only negative comment is the parking, which is non-existent. We drove around the block several times before parking a block away in a residential neighborhood,
Wonderful French cuisine is a nice small restaurant with great service, food and ambience.
The French Gourmet is my favorite restaurant. Food is incredible, service is amazing, the bakery is more than amazing. Great place for a special occasion, date night or just a night out with friends. You won't be disappointed.
It is a nice surprise. Restaurant is small and cozy. Food is delicious, dessert is very good. I will definitely go back. Ordered the $30 3-course meal, reasonable price.
Always consistent and delicious. Highly recommended
Wanted great rack of lamb for my birthday celebration. Got them! Perfectly cooked, generous number of ribs, delicious sides and creme brulee.
Attended for Restaurant Week. They gave many great choices for all three courses, appetizers, entree and dessert. I had the filet mignon on with bernaise sauce. It was seasoned perfectly and cooked to a perfect medium rare as well. The sauce was great. The potatoes and vegetables served with it looked very appetizing and tasted great. Potatoes au gratin were so good. French onion soup was very good and my friends had a platter which included duck liver or pate, among other things, and they really enjoyed it. Both of my friends really enjoyed their entrees as well, one had steak like me but with the brown gravy-like sauce, and the other had the short ribs which she said that she didn't even need a knife for. Desserts were great as well with so many to choose from. Service was great, always coming on a timely basis and always keeping our water glasses full. We all said that we have to go there again. Thanks for a wonderful experience.
Restaurant Week menu was a great value, albeit a little lackluster. However, service was not up to the usual, which was a shame. However, continues to be an excellent neighborhood value.
Dinner on Saturday night for restaurant week. Great menu options, variety of choices.
Wait staff was friendly and very helpful.
I will definitely be back.
All was excellent although , as we were early, the potatoes au gratin was not yet available and they still do not offer white zinfidel wine.
Laura , our hostess greeted us warmly, seated u promptly and Was able to answer all questions. Luckily, we arrived in time to bid their pastry chef Richard a great retirement , well earned after 51 years. We look forward to our next visit in the near future.
Exceptional value --particularly for a French restaurant
This is best French restaurant in San Diego. The food is amazing! Service is great and very friendly. And they have an incredible Bakery.
My son and I always like the pate
The bread is exceptional always
Flat iron steak was tender
The seasonings were good
Sauce was good
Some vegetables were good but some were too raw
Good experience overall at value price
Pros: Customer service was good, bakery attendant good, food good, great prices Cons: Dark seating for dinner, loud, small dining area, and poor parking.
Good service. Good food.
We got a good table. I mention it, because many times when you are a party of two, you don’t.
We live blocks from the restaurant. And although I stop to get bread about three times a week. The place looked too smal to be comfortable.
I was wrong. We’ll visit it more often.
