The French Gourmet
Our restaurant serves California-influenced French cuisine in our completely remodeled outdoor patio and limited indoor wine boutique, brand new menu and bar with signature craft cocktails. We are a long-time favorite of locals who appreciate the personal service and our extensive wine list. After more than four decades of serving our clients, it is as much an honor and a privilege, as it is a reassurance to know, that while culinary trends come and go, appreciation and dedication to quality endure.

The food was delicious. Tony, the waiter was very attentive to our requests. A nice location to come during a weekend outing.
Excellent restaurant experience in every way from appetizers to desert & and a wonderful wine selection - all with great value too.
It is always a pleasure to dine at The French Gourmet.
Meal was delicious and quality is definitely there. If you’re looking for something different I would recommend this place. My duck was moist and tasty and the au gratin was finely sliced with light cream sauce. The lamb chops were small but very tender and tasty! My kids had the salmon and raved about the mustard sauce. The creme brûlée had a strong egg flavor then what I am used to but I enjoyed it.
The waitress was wonderful and the food was even better!
Excellent service, food and ambiance!
We took friends for Restaurant Week. Food was delicious but an abundance of flies spoiled the ambiance. Nevertheless, I would go back.
A night out with friends for restaurant week. Good outside dining experience
Pineapple rum drinks were terrific! French Onion soup was delicious. Steak was very good; Salmon was okay. Desert very good. Quiet, outdoor, very much enjoyed the bartender / waiter.
Wow. We come to San Diego for restaurant week every time. The French Gourmet NEVER disappoints. Best meal ever! Brings back so many memories of France!!! The food was outstanding. Everyone enjoyed their meal! Best place ever! And we loved the outdoor eating!!!
Very limited menu. Over priced. $25 for Eggs Benedict & mini dessert. Eggs were good but Creme Brûlée was not. Pleasant waiter.
Delicious food and desserts. Friendly and attentive staff.
$24 for a charcuterie board that was comprised of low-quality cheeses, dog food like pâté, and barely had enough for two people. Was a major rip-off.
As always, staff were friendly and helpful. Food is always delicious.
From the web site, we were expecting a nicer atmosphere and a more up scale restaurant. It was very disappointing. It took over one hour to get our food. Food was ok. It was like having dinner in a coffee shop. Not what we wanted.
We sat on the outdoor patio which was very comfortable on a September evening. We both ordered the short ribs and they were delicious. On the way out, my sister stopped at the pastry counter and got a lovely dessert to eat later and a croissant for breakfast! I'm sure we'll be back on our next visit to San Diego.
The food was really mediocre. I ordered a French omelette, which was over-cooked. My water glass had lip marks of the person who used it before me, so that’s how they wash their dishes. It was super gross. The server was too busy so we were never offered water coffee refills. I’m never going back again. There are many other places that actually wash their dishes.
Quick and delicious breakfast
Delicious fare. Great service, meal portions were perfect. Great desserts. Intimate indoors (well-spaced) dining, as well as ample outdoors seating.
Excellent service, delicious breakfast croissant.
A great spot for delicious food! This was our first dinner (we’ve dined here for brunch several times), and we were not disappointed. Everything was cooked to perfection, we had excellent service (thanks, Mark!), and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We shall be back!
1st timers, got nice patio, slow but friendly service on a quiet Friday night, food ok but not great or special, desserts VERY GOOD & homemade & def the best part. Lovely servers & helpers, but…
Our family very much enjoyed our meal at this French bistro-style restaurant in San Diego. The food compared well with what one would get in France -- and the French Bordeaux wine selection was surprisingly select (lots of affordable bottles from the best years in the aughties). We'd definitely go back!
Excellent service and delicious food. I highly recommend this place. Cudos!
Everything we got was phenomenal from the service to the food to the wine. The cocktails were fantastic the truffle mac & cheese was amazing they had the ratatouille in the filet mignon and it was absolutely spectacular. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone that I meet in the world. Will be going back and will be recommending it to everyone that I possibly can
Service was outstanding and food delicious. A very pleasant surprise. I highly recommend this restaurant!
The outdoor dining space created during COVID is so wonderful! It's such a nice option to the indoor space. Our waiter was great, attentive and kind.
amazing food and service! One of the best French 75's I've had, and the baked eggs for brunch were out of this world!
Food was delicious. The setting is a little unusual as we sat on the patio which is an alley next to the restaurant. Street noise is ok and the food surely made up for it. Service was excellent. Loved it and will be bqck
Due to Covid, we opted to dine outdoors. We ate relatively early, so the lighting wasn’t on. I would imagine it’s prettier after dark. It was a pleasant experience and the food was delicious. We’ve dined here for many years during our summer visits and it didn’t disappoint. Perhaps some white tablecloths and fresh flowers on the table would enhance the dining experience.
I reserved a table to celebrate a birthday lunch with my girlfriend. Service is always outstanding at this long time Pacific Beach restaurant. Food is well presented, and very good. They make you feel extra special on a birthday with a complementary piece of dessert for the birthday girl. My only negative is I don’t believe the bread was very fresh, and if you order the onion soup, make sure you request that they make it very hot before they serve it.
From the moment I arrived, I knew I was in for a special evening. The restaurant is cute as a button, homey, with well-spaced tables amid racks of wine for sale and a bakery with tempting delights. The appealing smell of classic French cooking was in the air. The host was friendly, kind and gracious. The servers were professional, cheerful and helpful. The manager was first-rate, he set a standard of excellence and was very interested in every guest's satisfaction. The food was delicious. Overall, the restaurant and staff are outstanding in all respects.
We had the rack of lamb and shrimp scampi. Both were delicious!
Did not rush us through the dinner or checkout, so we had lots of time to catch up. Loved the atmosphere of sitting among the racks of wine.
Excellent service and phenomenal food. Great for a date night.
Our meals (one lamb and one duck entree) were delicious, but the service was a bit erratic. Bread was greatly delayed, though promised early. We ate inside, where the surroundings have greatly changed....marked by numerous wine racks all around the room. When we left, through the "back door," we saw the outdoor patio for the first time and were impressed by how much more open and inviting it appeared.
Love the patio, very European feeling which is great. Nice and quiet and reasonable pricing.
I thoroughly enjoyed lunch at The French Gourmet, as did my Birthday friend, the reason for the visit! I will be back with more Birthday friends!
Great offerings and reasonable prices. Delightful place to meet up and catch up!
I do love this restaurant. The food is delicious-a modest menu but great choices. The members of the wait staff are delightful and attentive and the ambiance is perfect, especially the outdoor section on a warm summer night. One of our favorites.
