Shortly after the construction of the Jefferson Street Bridge in 1912, Chris Anwonder built the first tavern to grace our building. During the era that followed industry and commerce built upon the banks of the river. Our building has a history that somewhat parallels the economic ups and downs of this area. It has been a porcelain works, tombstone factory, and sign company. Fifteen years prior to the October 1, 1980 opening of our restaurant, it was an empty warehouse. The reconstruction of our building uses artifacts collected from the area, and most of the restored oak pieces have been uniquely located to provide the atmosphere that is the Emporium. The grand staircase, the Deacon"s bench, and the oak doors used as paneling are all from an old church. The antique light fixtures, railings, spindles, and oak columns are authentic and add to the beautiful ambiance and dining experience.

Ordered the filet and it was under cooked. The server happily returned it to the kitchen - which can always be risky. My steak was returned cooked perfectly and tasted amazing! Server was friendly and efficient. We were on our way to the Morris for a show and she was very respectful of our time constraints. We're very happy such an iconic restaurant is still providing great service and wonderful meals.

Do not book this restaurant through open table. I arrived for reservation this past Saturday night and was told they didn’t have my reservation. The manager did not accommodate us in any way.....offered a gift card....no thank you, we would never go back due their complete lack of apology for the situation. I have read other similar reviews where they claimed that they had issues with the opentable system. When I went on open table to find another restaurant, the emporium was still showing availability for that same night, and I was unable to book another restaurant as the system still showed my supposed non-existent reservation for the emporium. Had to laugh when I got a no-show email the next day! Open table should discontinue working with this establishment.

Love this restaurant!! Food is my favorite!!! We were sat in the bar area tho and they didn’t seem to have our reservation, at least we got a seat but would have rather been in actual restaurant area

I would recommend to a friend but not Open table. We reserved a table on the Open Table website but when we showed up they didn't have our reservation. So we put our name on the list and went and say in the bar.... They never came and got us. 10:30 rolls around nothing... I'm glad we decided to order and we at at the bar. 🙄 the bartender rocked tho!

This was our 15 th year of celebrating Valentines Day at the Emporium. We normally travel from Michigan 6 to 8 times per year for dinner. We will never go back, I blame management not the server. The tables were so close to each other you couldn’t move you chair with out hitting the railing or table next to you. We had a party of 7 the young man serving could hardly get through to place items on our table causing him to spill a coke onto the table. Our appetizers and salads were great but over an hour later we still did not have our entrees. When it was finally served two entree were missing. Everyone was almost done eating so those two people took theirs to go. After another half an hour the server was so busy he couldn’t offer dessert or give us our checks. We proceeded downstairs to pay because we were there already 2 1/2 hours.

They do not honor opentable reservations.

We had 7:15 reservations through the OpenTable app we were informed 7 o’clock that they did not have a table for us and many other open table app users were there also for dinner and had their reservations canceled too!!!!!and I just wanted to add this was Valentine’s Day dinner😡

The hostess stated she didn't receive my reservation and looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned it. Luckily, we were able to get a table, but we were cramped and uncomfortable. Food was good, however.

Your website menu said most dishes can be made gluten free, but that wasn't the case in person. It also disgruntled us that any substitution was a $3 surcharge even if the substitution was of equal or lesser value. Customers favor flexibility and customization.

It was a busy evening; we had a table for two. There were several tables of 4 or more in our area. Tip: If the wait staff asks if you would like something to drink, be ready. Or be prepared to wait 15 minutes for them to return for your order. And since there are only two of you; don't be offended if you are being rushed to decide and that once your order is placed your menu and your wait staff person are gone in a flash! And that you will once again wait another 10 minutes for your cocktail to arrive at your table. After a long hiatus from this restaurant; I was pleased with the change in menu. Needs a fresher decor now; the same as it's been since 1980. The food was good, but would have been better if it had been hot when we got it.

Service was not attentive though it wasn’t busy on a sat night. Maybe 4 other tables in house. The opentable app “wasn’t working” the hostess said so they didn’t have our reservation. We were seated right away anyway. Food was not great. Fish tacos weren’t very fresh and ahi app never came out.

We enjoyed our meals. Great lunch prices! I got a nice fish with rice and vegetables for for $9. Our service was on the slow side but we were not in a hurry so it wasn’t a problem.

We had a 5:30 reservation. The hostess was too busy making salads to acknowledge us, finally about 5:37 she came over after being prompted by a server. It wasn’t until 5:42 that a server asked if we had been helped and said she’d send someone over. At 5:45 she said our server would be right with us. Our server then proceeded to 3 different tables before us and walked right past us without any sort of acknowledgement. At 5:51 we stood up and walked out because we were going to a 7:00 show. We weren’t even served waters. I understand things happen and you get busy but they could’ve at least acknowledged us and addressed the situation. When we complained to management we were given a gift card and told to come back when they weren’t so busy. Needless to say, the gift card will go unused. We weren’t the only ones complaining about the slow service and management did little to apologize or explain the situation, instead jumping immediately to “let me give you a gift card”. It felt as if we were being bought off to get out of there. I wanted a nice dinner with my wife, not a gift card and instructions to come back when they weren’t too busy for me.

Such a disappointment. My mother and I made reservations here before seeing a show at the Morris. We were seated upstairs where there were multiple open tables. After waiting for about 30 minutes with not even a hello from a server I went to the hostess to let her know and she seemed uninterested and mentioned they were busy. We waited about another 15 minutes and then left to find somewhere that actually wanted our business.

The duck entree, as shown online menu, no longer available. The duck primary reason for booking. Signature cocktail ordered not available, as key ingredient didn’t have. Requested window seating, which wasn’t available, told seating was first come first served. My 75th birthday dinner not to repeated at Emporium on 76th. No longer Emporium I have loved in the past.

The Emporium is a beautiful vintage building on the St. Joseph river, the service was a bit slow on a busy night, but the entrees were outstanding. Reasonable prices for the quality of the food, overall worth a return visit.

They were very busy when we got there and the manager apologized for the delay from our reservation and asked if he could sit us in the bar because they were short handed and late with our reservation. We agreed and took the small table in the bar because we had a party to go to after dinner. 10 mins later the manager came back over and asked if we have been waited on yet which we replied no. Then he took our order. He brought us our food and we ate and left because the experience was not what we expected for this restaurant on New Years Eve. We probably won’t go back to that restaurant because of the bad experience.

We always have an excellent time at the Emporium. We have never had any bad food there and enjoyed going there the Sunday before Christmas to celebrate with our family. The food was delicious and the waitress was top notch. She was always attentive to our every need including refilling drinks and making sure every thing was the way we wanted it. We went at 4:00 and it was very quiet and not rushed so was very enjoyable. We are definitely going to go again in the new year.

Had reservations for 5 pm on 11/29. Asked for a window seat which they honored. The server was fine. However a "mixup" in the kitchen meant that my french onion soup came out at the same time as my entree. Same with my table mate. The server did not charge us for the soups which I appreciated. My burger was good but the fries were limp and lukewarm. All in all a very expensive hamburger.

I took my husband here for his 30th birthday dinner. I made reservations and our table was ready right when we got there. It took a while for our food to come out but luckily we were not in any rush. When the food finally came, it was hot, fresh and delicious! We will definitely be recommending the Emporium to all our family and friends!

Server very friendly and accommodating. There was a mix-up in the kitchen that led to rolls being delayed .. and then delivered under-baked. Restaurant wasn’t crowded, but took a while to get food, too. We have been here before — and would try it again. May have just been an off night.

Prime rib very flavorful and tender. Green beans cooked just right so were crisp without being rubbery. Staff very attentive and noise level just right. Excellent meal.

I am really surprised with being a better quality dining establishment that I was handed a Dirty paper menu. That kinda turned me off. The menu's had stains all over them and no way to clean them. My suggestion would be to laminate them so they can be wiped down with sanitizer wipes.
