I have already written this to you, however, my rating is poor because when we arrived at the restaurant for the birthday celebration, the restaurant was closed up tighter than a drum. There was no one there! This was inspite of lights, including a Xmas tree, on. I call ed the retaurant & got no answer but did leave a message. We went on to find another restaurant. About 45 minutes later a woman called from Emeralds saying she had a "quick errand" she had to do & thought she would get back before we arrived. So sorry. How many restaurants do you know that only have one person working each night!? Her explanation made no sense to us. surely, someone else would have been there. I mean there was not a soul in the restaurant! Emeralds has really gone downhill & we will NEVER go again.
I heard about this place about 20 years ago and wanted to try it for a celebration for my boyfriend. The pictures online must be from when they first opened. It’s shocking when you get inside. I wished I had walked out but didn’t want to make a scene in front of my BF. It’s old and dirty.
We ordered a bottle of wine that took over 30 mins to arrive & be opened. The wine tasted as it had been turned and the cork was completely dry meaning they don’t store wine properly. Each food item took 30 min each to serve. I ordered the Irish dish they are known for & they were out so I had to choose a steak. Once we got the main course served. My meat had been frozen & it was not a filet mignon as advertised. I did not eat it. The vegetables were awesome. Within 10 min of serving the main course the lady kept coming back asking to clear the table. It was weird. The whole process took 2 hours. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Not worth the $200 spent. Stay away.
Brilliant in every way! Food, service, and ambience were very, very good!
A truly unique experience! You feel like you went back in time eating in an authentic Irish cottage. The service is exceptional and the food is sumptuous. The onion soup is the best I've ever eaten and the duck was mouth watering delicious. It is definitely worth the price. We save The Emerald for special occasions and date nights.
Food is authentic but a bit overpriced. Service was attentive but theres only a couple of servers for the many guests that were dining in, so there’s a but of a wait when you need water filled up, getting your check, etc.
Everyone should experience a meal at the Emerald! It was like stepping back into time. Very cute and quaint space that makes you feel like you are in an Irish pub. Michelle our server was the sweetest and shared allot of the history with us. The food was phenomenal and the portions were so big, we left very satisfied.
This is a wonderful quiet romantic spot with truly an Irish experience. The food was fantastic and the service was wonderful. The proprietors were Hostess and Chef, and also Sisters. We were there 2 hours and enjoyed every minute. Great special occasion restaurant. Kinda of hidden off 71 , but don't miss this place!
Quiet, quaint family business. Attentive service but slow. Tend to be out of menu items.
Lovely restaurant with a lot of charm and romantic atmosphere.
The Emerald was a fantastic getaway for an evening amongst friends. We were welcomed into the cozy space and doted upon all night as we feasted on the most delicious meal. We’ll definitely be back!
My husband enjoyed many evenings with friends in college here. I booked a date night for his birthday this year, letting them know he was now vegan. The staff could not have been more accommodating with this request, especially when my husband wanted it to become a family dinner and include our daughters. The Emerald family made us feel so welcomed and appreciated, even as we provided a complicated menu for them with 2 vegans and 2 meat eaters. The slow pace of the leisurely enjoyed meal was ended wonderfully and generously when they offered to present and carve up the cake we had brought with us. This could not have been a more perfect evening! Thanks for keeping this gem going for all us old school Austinites.
The service was very slow, even though there were only two tables occupied when we were there, including the two of us. The waitress, a member of the family that owns the restaurant, was very pleasant but we had very long waits between everything. Total time in the restaurant was almost 2 1/2 hours and I had to go ask for the check.
I had the veal which was okay and buried in the sauce. My wife had the filet mignon which was large and appeared to be very good. We should have order that alone and split it.
The meals are pricey and appeared to us to be overpriced for what we received.
The ambience was okay, but the restaurant is showing wear and badly needs renovation. Part of its theme is Irish charm and authenticity, but this can be done well without making the restaurant look tired.
The Emerald was a wonderful find. Such a unique place, and the food was amazing!
If you haven’t eaten at The Emerald, you only think you know Austin dining. Everywhere else pales in comparison.
Having passed Emerald’s for years and always curious, we decided to take friends out for dinner there last Saturday. We had excellent service and the cottage was very quaint and did remind me a lot of Ireland. The onion soup was excellent but the entrees were nothing out of the ordinary and overall I didn’t feel it was worth the money we spent.
Service here is outstanding. Quality of food also very good I ordered the filet mignon with mushroom it was very tender and it came with baked potato and baked carrot. Also had a taste of the ginger beer and it was delicious! The price is worth it. I would recommend it for a special occasion.
My Date was overwhelmed by the quality of the meal. When entering the anteroom before being seated at the table, wasn't made clear the Valentine dinner was the only thing available that night. Consider stressing at the outset, when applicable, limited menu for Special occasion dining. Will return.
The Emerald is the perfect place for an upscale, romantic, and authentic Irish dinner. The hostess is the sweetest woman, generous, and kind. We had an incredible date night and the best meal I have had in a long time. I have been here twice now and always feel like I am in ireland and treated like a king. It is expensive, but for a special occasion it is worth every penny.
We love this restaurant. It is our favorite in the Austin area. It can be a little expensive, but totally worth every cent. It is family-owned and the service is very personal and friendly. It is also not usually busy and you may even have the whole place to yourself! They play relaxing Irish music and the food is authentic Irish cuisine as you would find in Ireland. Perhaps the best part to us about this restaurant is its location and ambiance. We travel frequently and are always drawn to the places that are off-the-beaten-path. This is in a cute and cozy cottage away from the busyness of the city lights and chain restaurants, which is exactly what we enjoy.
Wonderful unique restaurant. A wonderful evening
Wonderful and memorable experience. Nothing like it around here!
Fantastic. This is our family tradition for Christmas Eve dining. Authentic Irish fare.
Wonderful people, great food and romantic atmosphere.
We had high expectations for Emerald, having seen other reviewers' positive comments - but, frankly, this was THE worst dining experience we have had in Austin. If you like chintzy decor, with windows and tables covered in lace, plus really slow service, overcooked vegetables, and food that is totally mushy and without texture and flavor, then this place is for you. Otherwise, just about ANY other choice would be better.
Maybe we hit it on a bad day. The fact they have been around for 30 years means they must have been doing something right, but unfortunately we didn't get to see that.
The food was fantastic, the French onion soup was in an actual onion and flambé tableside, tasted out of this world. The cesar salad was made in front of us with the dressing made from scratch table-side, the beef medallions were to die for, the salmon was amazing and then the sambayon dessert was out of this world. Best of all the service by the owners is the best - they treat you like family.
We had a great time. The service was extra ordinary. We could talk and not have to shout which was wonderful for the evening.
Love everything about this place!
Lovely restaurant with a slow pace. Loved it! The onion soup was awesome and very creative. The owner's daughter was charming and made us feel right at home. Wonderful little gem.
Absolutely one of the best in the Austin area. We have dined here on several occasions and never found it wanting. The Owners have the menu and delivery down to a science. Our thanks to all.
Very nice family ran resturant for that special occasion.
