The Duncombe Arms is a beautiful, traditional country pub situated at the heart of the lovely rural village of Ellastone on the Staffordshire / Derbyshire border. Located on the edge of the Peak District near the towns of Ashbourne and Uttoxeter it is a great place to visit providing a delightful setting in which to enjoy a drink, some lovely food, as well as a chat with friends or family.

Come inside and enjoy a roaring log fire, sample our excellent range of beers and wines or enjoy fabulous food from our award-winning chef Scott Law. Or in the summer you can laze in our large garden overlooking the view to Worthy Island Wood.

Seated in area I didn’t ask for. Inundated with menu clipboards and A4 pages. Mains slow to arrive, dessert slow to arrive, the bill also slow to show up. Eventually the wrong bill arrived!, Asked for a second bill which I paid but on studying I was overcharged!! Staff apart from one, uninterested. I should not have to pay a service charge for poor service. Other customers seemed to be holiday makers on a jolly in t shirts and trainers or Alton Towers visitors. Odd for an award winning restaurant. Food very good and I was reimbursed for the overcharge .

All very nice. Just a couple of comments: The roast potatoes were very hard on the Sunday lunch and the tables were a little too close to each other for comfort. Welcome on arrival could have been a little friendlier.

Exquisite food, friendly, attentive staff and superb overnight accommodation. Extremely comfortable bed. A treat for our wedding anniversary. We highly recommend The Duncombe Arms.

It's probably the best place to dine in the area. Friendly attentive staff look after you well making it a good experience. Food always excellent , well selected wines not cheap but worth on a special occasion.

Our dinner here of our two night stay and we invited friends who live in Staffordshire to join us. We had reserved a table in the bar and we enjoyed drinks all together until the lovely and helpful,Josh came over and escorted us to our table. As with the previous night the food and service were superb and everyone said what a great meal it was and how good the service from Josh was. Breakfast the ne t morning, Sunday 1st June, was not as good as the previous day in terms of sservice. The breakfast cereals had been put out but no serving spoons, the fruit salad and orange juice were empty at 09.15. When I asked for yagart our waitress said she didn’t think they had any as the menu had changed, I told her it was on the menu and she went and found some. She brought the tea and coffee but no milk. The food though was excellent. We loved the Duncombe Arms and would recommend it highly.
